5 About the IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform The Data Capture and Delivery Platform server is a component of the IBM WebSphere RFID Premises Server that controls a set of input/ output devices on the edge of the WebSphere RFID system, such as motion sensors, antennas, or indicator lights at a distribution center dock door. This guide explains how to install, configure, and manage the Data Capture and Delivery Platform on the IF61 Fixed Reader. For more information on the Platform, visit the Premises Server information center at pvcsensa/v6r1m0/index.jsp. For more information on operating the IF61, see the IF61 Fixed Reader User s Manual (P/N xxx). Requirements To run the Data Capture and Delivery Platform on the IF61, you need: IF61 firmware version 2.10 or later. IBM WebSphere RFID Premises Server version 6.1 or later. For help with verifying or upgrading the IF61 firmware, see the IF61 user s manual. Installing or Upgrading the Platform After you download the Data Capture and Delivery Platform firmware, follow the next procedure to install or upgrade the Platform. If your IF61 already has the Data Capture and Delivery Platform installed, begin with Step 1 to upgrade the Platform firmware. To install the Platform, begin with Step 4. To install or upgrade the Platform 1 Open a web browser interface to the IF61. For help, see the IF61 user s manual. IF61 IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform User s Guide 5

6 2 On the browser menu, choose Edgeware Applications > Application Control. The Application Control screen appears. 3 Make sure that a currently installed version of IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform is not running. If necessary, click to stop the Platform server. 4 On the menu, click Install Edgeware. The Install Edgeware screen appears. 5 Click Browse and browse to the location of the upgrade file (if61- IBMDataCaptureAndDelivery-V web.bin) on your desktop PC. 6 Double-click the file to select it and then click Install. The firmware is installed and the IF61 reboots automatically. After the IF61 finishes booting, the Platform is ready to use. 6 IF61 IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform User s Guide

7 When you install the Platform, the files are installed to these directories on the IF61: Platform File Directories File Directory Platform software /home/developer/edgeware/dcdp Equinox OSGI files /home/developer/edgeware/dcdp/equinox Config.ini /home/developer/edgeware/dcdp/equinox/ configuration Starting and Managing the Platform 1 In the IF61 web browser interface, click Edgeware Applications > Application Control. The Application Control screen appears. The IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform and version number appear in the Edgeware Applications list. 2 Choose an option: Check the Auto-Start check box for the Platform if you want the Platform to automatically launch when the IF61 boots, and then click Activate Changes. Click to start the Platform immediately. When the Platform starts, the State changes to Running. IF61 IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform User s Guide 7

8 Click to stop the Platform if it is running. When the Platform stops, the State changes to -. Click to uninstall the Platform. Configuring the Platform 1 In the IF61 web browser interface, choose Edgeware Applications > IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform > Platform Configuration. The Platform Configuration screen appears. 2 To reset the Platform, check the Reset Platform on Next Launch check box. The next time the Platform launches, bundles and configuration information previously loaded from the Premises Server are deleted. 3 To specify the port that the platform OSGi should be bound to, enter the port number in the Console Port entry field. Range is 0 to and default is You can access the console by connecting via Telnet to that port. For information on Telnet connections, see the IF61 user s manual. 4 To specify additional JVM command line options to use when launching DCDP, enter the command line text in the JVM Command Line Options field. 8 IF61 IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform User s Guide

9 Use this for setting system property values or enabling assertions. For example, to set a system property named property to the value string, enter this text in the field: -Dproperty= string For a complete description of command line option syntax, see the Java command line documentation at javase/6/docs/technotes/tools/windows/java.html. Note: Because the Platform invokes Java with the -jar option, class path options are ignored. 5 Click Activate Changes to save your changes. About the Config.ini File Most configuration information for the Platform is stored in the config.ini file. You use the web browser interface to: configure settings for and create a new config.ini file for the Platform. For help, see the next section. edit the configuration file. For help, see Editing the Configuration File on page 11. Creating a Configuration File 1 In the IF61 web browser interface, choose Edgeware Applications > IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform > Create Config.ini. The Create Config.ini screen appears. 10 2 Change settings as needed. For more information, see the next table. 3 Click Create Config.ini File. A new configuration file is created and your settings take effect the next time the Platform launches. Config.ini Settings Descriptions Setting WebSphere RFID Premises Server IP Address Controller ID Bundle List File Auto-start IBM Loader Bundle Logging Level Description IP address of the Premises Server. The IF61 downloads bundles from this server. ID of the controller. Bundle list file on the Premises Server that determines which bundles are downloaded to the IF61. Check this check box to automatically launch the com.ibm.rfid.bundle.loader bundle when the Platform launches. This causes configuration and bundles to be downloaded from the Premises Server. 11 If you want your changes to be made active immediately, you need to relaunch the Platform as described in Starting and Managing the Platform on page 7. Editing the Configuration File 1 In the IF61 web browser interface, choose Edgeware Applications > IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform > Edit Config.ini. The Edit Config.ini screen appears. The contents of the config.ini file appear in a text editor window. 2 Click in the text editor window to make changes to the config.ini file as necessary. For more information, see the IBM WebSphere documentation. 3 Click Activate Changes. Your changes are saved and will be made active the next time the Platform launches. Accessing the Platform via Telnet You can directly access the Platform via a Telnet connection to view the status of the OSGI environment, and to send commands directly to the Platform. 12 To access the Platform via Telnet 1 On your desktop PC, open Telnet. 2 In the Telnet window, type: open xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx yyyyy where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the IF61, and yyyyy is the console port for the Platform (default is 65501). 3 Press Enter. The console prompt (osgi>) appears. 4 To see a list of the available commands, at the console prompt type help and press Enter. A list of the supported commands appears. Debugging the Platform If you need to troubleshoot the Platform installation, you can launch or reset the Platform from a Telnet session to the IF61 Linux shell. When you launch the Platform this way, logging is displayed to the Telnet session. Note: Logging is not present on the console port when the Platform is launched from the web browser interface. To launch or reset the Platform via Telnet 1 On your desktop PC, open Telnet. 2 In the Telnet window, type: open xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx where xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx is the IP address of the IF IF61 IBM Data Capture and Delivery Platform User s Guide

13 3 Press Enter. The login prompt appears. The login and password are the same as currently enabled for the web browser interface (default is intermec). 4 Enter the login and press Enter. The password prompt appears. 5 Enter the password and press Enter. The $-prompt appears and the Telnet session is established. The current directory on the IF61 is /home/developer. 6 Type cd edgeware/dcdp/equinox and press Enter. 7 To launch the Platform, type./startosgi.sh and press Enter. The Platform launches on the command line and logged events are shown in the Telnet window. To reset the Platform, type./reset.sh and press Enter. The Platform is reset, deleting bundles and configuration information previously loaded from the Premises Server. About Logfile Locations If you are having trouble loading bundles from the Premises Server, look in the /home/developer/edgeware/dcdp/equinox/configuration directory for log files that might contain useful diagnostics. The IF61 System Log will display some Platform diagnostics. To see the System Log, in the web browser interface choose Maintenance > System Log.
