1 How to connect PlusConfig How to connect with the Luxom system There are 3 different ways of connecting your computer to the Luxom system: - LOCAL - IP - MODEM LOCAL This means that we use a Luxom serial RS232 gateway for connecting to the Luxom system. Any free COM port on your computer can be used. If there is no COM port present but only USB, you can use a USB to serial converter. If you use such a converter, go to Start / Control panel / System / Hardware / Device manager after installing the software driver to find out which COM port is used for driving the USB to serial converter: Go to Tools / Options / Port Settings (in PlusConfig software) and change the COM port to COM 3. 1

2 As soon as you are connected, you ll see a computer icon with COM number appear in the lower left corner of your screen: IP IP means that we use the Ethernet TCP/IP protocol to connect to the Luxom system. Any computer equipped with an Ethernet network card can be used to connect to a Luxom Ethernet gateway. If you select this option, following screen appears: Click on New to create a new IP connection: 2

3 Fill in the name and IP address of your connection and click OK : Note : The Port number is default 2300, but for special applications it is possible that you may have to change it. (Check the datasheet of the Luxom gateway you want to connect to.) Remark: When working with DDNS service you can fill in the DNS name in the IP address field. For making a connection, select the IP address you want to connect to in the list of IP connections, then click Connect : As soon as you are connected, you ll see a computer icon with IP address appear in the lower left corner of the screen: If you have problems connecting, check FAQ on our partner website. 3

4 MODEM This connection type is used when we want remote access to a Luxom site where we only have an analog telephone line and no internet connection. With a modem and a Luxom RS232 gateway, we can connect to the Luxom system remotely. Cable between modem and RS232 gateway: The remote modem has to be connected to a direct telephone line and to the LUXOM RS232 gateway with the following cable layout (a null modem cable can be used) : Luxom RS232 DB9-Male DB9-Male Modem TxD 2 3 RxD RxD 3 2 TxD DSR 6 RTS 7 7 RTS GND 5 5 GND Once connected, put the modem in automatic answer and in half duplex mode. (Half duplex is only necessary when the modem is always connected to the Luxom system and the telephone line) Go to File / Connect / Modem: Click on New to create a connection: Fill in the name and phone number :

5 Set-up COM port: Note: The COM port has to be set-up in 2 locations within the PlusConfig software: in File / Connect / Modem.../ Properties / Advanced and in Tools / Options.../ Port Settings otherwise it won t work. How to program the remote modem : There are two ways to program the remote modem: 1) Using AT commands: Go to Hyperterminal : Direct connection to COMx of your modem (9600,N,8,1) Type the following AT-commands. Check your modem manual to see if these commands are supported. Type return after each command, the modem should return OK. AT S0=1 AT&D0 Set Auto Answer to 1 ring Set DTR always high AT&W0 Store these settings to profile 0 AT&Y0 Set reset profile to 0 2) Using DIP switch settings: Check your manual if DIP switches are available and what their function is. Set the switches to: Automatic-Answer DTR always on 5

6 CHECK VERSION OF GATEWAY Go to Tools / Options / Port Settings (in PlusConfig software) to verify the version of the connected gateway: * = no communication with the Luxom gateway. (only hardware connection). 2.xx.xx = RS232 gateway 3.xx.xx = IP gateway 6
