It lists the delivered package contents, highlights, and release limitations. For more information, see the GNSDK for Entourage Android Documentation. Resolved issues with Manual query mode not always performing a fingerprint Resolved issues with No Match Mode going back to Normal mode Hot fix for a potential security issue with Java APIs Security Issue with Java APIs In the last week of June, Gracenote was advised by an independent security research organization of an issue with Java APIs of Gracenote SDKs. Gracenote has confirmed the security issue and has updated all of the th affected products. The security research organization will be releasing details of their study on August 10, classifying it as CVE If your application is serializing GnException then there is a possible security risk that is potentially exploitable. Gracenote is not aware of any existing exploits, nor is the security research organization. The likelihood is low and Gracenote is not currently aware of any existing exploits. This issue exists only in the Java layer (including Android Java APIs), only if your application serializes GnException and stores or transmits the serialized object. th Gracenote strongly recommends that you update your products with this hot fix before the August 10 publication. Please note that if you are using the C APIs or non-java APIs (e.g., C++, Objective C, C#), this issue is not applicable and there is no need for you to upgrade. Recommendations For the best automatic detection of channel changes and other "transitions", it is suggested that you use a 44.1 khz audio input sampling rate, which is more effective at detecting transitions than a lower sampling rate. The Android ACR Sample App uses a 44.1 khz sampling rate. Consult with Gracenote Services & Support for an up-to-date list of supported TV channels. Entourage is designed to work with actual TV broadcasts. Systems such as Slingbox or Internet streaming sites may work, but are NOT recommended as recognition varies significantly depending on location and other factors to present. Gracenote, Inc. 4 Limitations The audio classifier uses a 44.1 khz sampling rate as input, other sampling rates are not supported. Responses returned during commercials may include multiple matches and not always include the specific channel the user is watching. Entourage is a content identification system (vs. a channel identification system) and, as such, returns TV shows and associated channels. See Considerations for details. Entourage is optimized to detect channel changes. If an advertisement is being broadcast during a program, the associated TV show (and not the ad) is returned. Depending on a number of factors, the position within a TV show typically ranges from 330 seconds. For applications synchronizing with a live TV broadcast, use the response's currentposition offset value. See the Entourage SDK Data Dictionary for more information on this field. Considerations Matching The current platform is designed to return as many matches as possible, which allows Gracenote to fine-tune the client SDK/network. Subsequent releases will use this tuning to limit the number of matches returned. When there are multiple matches, your app can compare the matches returned with previous query matches - if a match is found, the user is still watching the same show/channel and your app does not need to update the screen. In certain situations, e.g., a high level of background speech, Entourage may not return a match. Typically, a match is returned a short time later without end-user intervention. Low audio volume or high background noise could impede recognition. Subsequent releases will improve matching in less than ideal environments. Entourage typically needs 5-8 db SPL (Sound Pressure Level) above ambient to consistently return a match. Battery and Network The Entourage SDK has configurable settings for conserving battery life and minimizing network access. Key options include: how many "no matches" before Entourage ignores transitions, how often to query even if a transition has not been detected, and including a manual lookup option. See the Configurable ACR Object Properties section in the Entourage SDK Implementation Guide for Android for more information. Depending on your app's needs, there are additional options for conserving battery life and minimizing network access. However, you should consult with Gracenote Services & Support to find out what these options are and the implications for your specific application. Sampling Rate 2000 to present. Gracenote, Inc. 5 Not all Android devices support a 44.1 khz sampling rate. If not, the SDK defaults to 8 khz, which is less effective at detecting transitions. Not all Android devices support an 8 khz sampling rate. See android/media/audioformat.html#e ( ENCODING_PCM_8BIT) for more information. Sunset Notice Upon each new release of the ACR SDK, Gracenote supports two of the most recent* Android operating system versions on that respective release. Please note that this does not mean that the ACR SDK will no longer function on previous Android versions. Most recent is defined as the OS having been commercially available on a shipping product for at least 8 weeks prior that particular release of the ACR SDK. Note that newly introduced versions of Android will only be certified on upcoming releases; earlier versions of the ACR SDK will not go through a recertification process.
