Registration Opens: Read this entire guide BEFORE June 17 th. Registration fills up fast, and if you want to get your preferred schedule, ensure that you are completely prepared at pm. Registration Help Desk: Should something not quite go as planned during registration, we are offering a Registration Help Desk on Saturday, June 24 th in Engineering Building Alpha/Beta computer labs (Rooms 2B08 and 2B06). The computer lab will be open for you to register on site with help trouble shooting if necessary.

PREPARING FOR REGISTRATION All engineering students take the same group of first year courses. We call it the common first year. You must register in these courses in order to complete our first year requirements. To find the common first year in the course and program catalogue, click here or go to <usask.ca/programs> and click on "College of Engineering", then "Common First Year". First year Engineering consists of the following courses: TERM ONE TERM TWO Fall Term September to December Winter Term January to April 1. GE 101.1* 1. GE 121.3* 2. GE 111.3* 2. GE 125.3* 3. GE 124.3* 3. PHYS 155.3* 4. MATH 123.3* 4. MATH 124.3* 5. CHEM 114.3* 5. Natural Science Elective** 6. COMM Junior Humanities or Social Science*** * Program Choice Requirement You must complete each of these courses to be considered for a discipline at the end of first year. (Note: All programs except for Mechanical and Chemical will use a natural science elective in lieu of one of the required courses if it is missing, but not if it is attempted and failed) ** Natural Science Elective BIOL CHEM GEOL PHYS *** Junior Humanities or Social Science See the "Preparing for Registration" section of this document, or the course and program catalogue. Specific Natural Science Electives are required in the following disciplines: Chemical Engineering: CHEM Civil and Geological Engineering: GEOL Environmental Engineering (choose one of the three electives below, you will take the other two in year 2): CHEM BIOL GEOL 121.3

Important Definitions: CRN COURSE REFERENCE NUMBER Each section of a class is assigned a unique five-digit CRN that you will use to register for the class. SECTION NUMBER Each course may be offered more than once each term. Each offering is known as a section. Many classes are made up of both a lecture section and a lab section. You must register for both at the same time to successfully register for the class. MWF = Monday, Wednesday, and Friday TR = Tuesday and Thursday SU = Saturday and Sunday your time to study! BEFORE YOU REGISTER If for any reason you choose to reduce your course load for first year, please book an appointment with an academic advisor to discuss your options. [You can book online here, or contact us: ] If you identify as an indigenous student, feel free to contact Matthew Dunn, our Indigenous Initiatives Coordinator to touch base! [matthew.dunn@usask.ca, ] Note: signing up for a learning community is not mandatory, but is recommended for students who want a little extra support in transitioning to university life

TERM ONE STEPS TO REGISTRATION *Do not mix schedules* If you have not signed up for a learning community, follow this guide: 1. Choose a schedule As you can see on the following pages, there are colour coded pre-organized schedules that you can choose from. Take a look through the schedules to decide which one best suits you. You CANNOT blend two schedules together (i.e. you cannot register in GE 111 from the red schedule, and then GE 124 from blue schedule). 2. Ensure that you have a valid schedule chosen You also must choose only labs from a schedule that corresponds to the lecture in that same schedule. For example, if you choose the red schedule, you can only choose lab sections from the red schedule. If you register in classes from the red colour schedule and then choose labs from the green schedule, we will deregister you and move you to another section. 3. Have CRNs next to you when you register You will need to type in the CRNs very quickly and submit them to try to give yourself the best chance of getting into the course sections/schedule that you want to register in. 4. Do not hit submit more than once There are many students registering at the same time- be patient! The system may be slow. 5. Be prepared to move to plan b Due to the number of students registering, and depending on when you register, one of the lab sections that you choose may be full. Simply choose another lab section until you successfully register in both the lab and class together... If all of the lab sections are full, you will need to move on to different colour schedule entirely, by dropping the classes that you ve registered in and adding an entire new block of CRNs. 6. Follow the DAY OF REGISTRATION steps in this guide. If anything goes wrong during registration, do not panic. Call Student Central at for assistance. This Registration Guide is provided for general information purposes only. In case of a discrepancy between this guide and the University of Saskatchewan s Course and Program Catalogue/Registration Information, the Course and Program Catalogue/Registration Information will prevail.

TERM TWO STEPS TO REGISTRATION *Do not mix schedules* All students should register in their term two courses IN JUNE, when registration opens. 1. Choose your Natural Science Elective Your schedule in term two will depend on what science elective you wish to register in. Similar to term one, your second term classes have to be from the same color schedule, which are colour coded. 2. Choose a Junior Humanities Elective (from the following page) Have back-ups! If you choose one elective that fits into your schedule and it is full when you go to register, you will have to scramble to find another. To avoid this, choose a few electives that you think would be interesting that would fit into your schedule and have their CRNs ready. 3. Have CRNs next to you when you register You will need to type in the CRNs very quickly and submit them to try to give yourself the best chance of getting into the course sections/schedule that you want to register in. If your chosen natural science elective is full, try again with another section. 4. If all sections of your science elective are full, you have a few options If you only want to take GEOL 121, and ALL sections of that class are full, you can either move on to another science elective schedule or contact the Engineering Student Centre. 5. Again, if anything goes wrong Do not panic! We understand that university registration is new for many of you, and we are happy to help you through it. While you should attempt to register on June 17 th, if you have difficulty you can book in with an Academic Advisor or come to our registration help desk on June 24 th. 6. Follow the DAY OF REGISTRATION steps in this guide. For any other registration trouble shooting- call Student Central at for assistance. This Registration Guide is provided for general information purposes only. In case of a discrepancy between this guide and the University of Saskatchewan s Course and Program Catalogue/Registration Information, the Course and Program Catalogue/Registration Information will prevail.

Because first year engineering students share a common first year, and the majority of those courses are required to be placed in a program, it is imperative that you register in those courses (if you do not already have credit for them). Please choose an elective that fits within your schedule, but does not conflict with any of your other first year courses. To search for your Junior Humanities CRN, log in to and follow these steps: 1. click on the Academics tab 2. click on Registration 3. click on Search for Classes 4. go to semester two, and use the drop down menu to find the course subject area that you are looking for and hit "class search" 5. find an elective (or several) that fit into your schedule and have the CRNs ready when you go to register (note that if no information comes up for a class that you type in, it may not be offered this year) Subject Course Title Type ANTH 111 Introduction to Cultural Anthropology Lecture ARCH 112 The Human Journey Introduction to Archaeology and Biological Anthropology Lecture ARCH 116 Introduction to Near Eastern and Classical Archaeology Lecture CLAS 110 Greek Civilization Lecture CLAS 111 Roman Civilization Lecture CMRS 110 The Graeco Roman Tradition Evolution and Reception Lecture CMRS 111 Medieval and Renaissance Civilization Lecture ECON 111 Price Theory and Resource Allocation Lecture ECON 114 Money and Income Lecture GEOG 130 Space Place and Society An Introduction to Human Geography Lecture HIST 110 Landmarks of Ancient History Lecture HIST 111 Landmarks of Medieval History Lecture HIST 115 History Matters: Ideas and Culture Lecture HIST 121 Europe to Modern Age 1348 to 1789 Lecture HIST 122 Europe in Age of Mass Culture 1789 to Present Lecture HIST 125 History Matters: Indigenous Colonial and Post-Colonial Histories Lecture HIST 135 History Matters: Gender, Sex and Society Lecture HIST 145 History Matters: War, Violence and Politics Lecture HIST 151 Canadian History from Pre Contact Period to 1867 Lecture HIST 152 Post Confederation Canada Lecture HIST 155 History Matters: Science and Environment Lecture HIST 165 History Matters: Health and Society Lecture HIST 175 History Matters: Identities and Communities in Transition Lecture LING 111 Structure of Language Lecture LING 112 Dynamics of Language Lecture INDG 107 Introduction to Canadian Native Studies Lecture PHIL 120 Knowledge Mind and Existence as Introductory Topics in Philosophical Problems Lecture PHIL 133 Introduction to Ethics and Values Lecture PHIL 140 Critical Thinking Lecture POLS 111 Democracy in North America Lecture POLS 112 Political Ideas and Change in Global Era Lecture PSY 120 Biological and Cognitive Bases of Psychology Lecture PSY 121 Social Clinical Cultural and Developmental Bases of Psychology Lecture SOC 111 Foundations in Sociology Society Structure Process Lecture SOC 112 Fundations in Sociology Social Construction of Everyday Life Lecture WGST 112 Introduction to Womens and Gender Studies Lecture It is important that you have several back-up electives, in case the first one or two that you choose are full * *
