2 1. Introduction This README file is to help you using the CipherLab 8071 Data Terminal and its Application Generator. 1.1 What s the CipherLab 8071 Data Terminal? Please read through the introduction of the CipherLab 8071 User s Guide. 1.2 What s the Application Generator? Please read through the preface of the Application Generator User s Guide. 1.3 Instructions for new users of the Terminal If you are not familiar with the keys of CipherLab terminal products, you should first read the CipherLab 8071 User s Guide session. Then take a look on the Getting Started inside Application Generator User s Guide to understand the functions of the main menu. 1.4 Keyboard Operation :18:00 P. 2 of 23

3 The keypad of the 8071 Portable Data Terminal has 21 keys. The functions of some special keys are as follows: SCAN Scan a barcode. Press this button will trigger the scanner to read a barcode if the scanner port is enabled. ENTER Enter. There are two enter keys on the side of the scan key. Normally the enter keys are used for command execution or input confirmation. ESC Escape. Usually this key is used to stop and exit current operation. BS Back Space. If this key is being pressed down longer than one second, a clear code will be sent. ALPHA The toggle key for Alphabet / Numeral input. When the system is in alpha-mode, a small icon will be shown on the display and each numeral key can be used to generate one of the three capital letters. For example, numeral 2 can be used to produce A, B or C. Pressing the same key twice within one second, will call the letter B. Pressing the same key without halting longer than one second, will cause the three letters to be shown in a circulating way. Only when stop pressing the key for longer than one second or pressing another key, will the system send the real key code to the application program. FN The function key. This key cannot be activated alone, it must be pressed with one numeral key at the same time. For example, FN + 1 generates function #1, FN + 2 generates function #2, etc (up to 9 functions). Also, this key can be combined with the UP/DOWN arrow keys to adjust the contrast of the LCD. And when this key is combined with the ENTER key, it will turn ON/OFF the backlight. POWER Power On/Off. To prevent a faulty push, it needs about 1.5 sec continuous pressing to turn On/Off the power :18:00 P. 3 of 23

4 2. Installing and Setup the Application Generator This chapter is useful only if you still haven t installed the Application Generator. Skip it if you have already done so. Follow step 2.1 to start the setup program. 2.1 Insert the CD-ROM into your drive. The auto-run capability of Windows will start the Application Generator setup program. If it does not, select the Run... option of the taskbar Start Menu and type: D:\setup.exe replacing D: with your CD-ROM drive. 2.2 Setup and Testing the Application Generator On Terminal side: Use IrLoad.EXE to download the 8071 Application Generator Runtime V1.092(C:\CipherLab 8071 Application Generator V1_21\Setup files\download\firmware\ 71ApplicationGeneratorRuntime-U SHX) Press [7] & [9] and Power -> System Menu Select [7.Next Page] Select [3.Wi-Fi Menu] Select [2.Network Set] Select [1.DHCP] and Press down to Select [Disable],then Enter Select [2.SubNet Mask] SubNet Mask = , then Enter Select [3.Local IP] Local IP = the IP of your Wi-Fi router (eg ) Select [4.Gateway] Gataway = the Gataway of your router (eg ) Esc to [Wi-Fi Menu] Select [4.Security] Select [1.Authentication] and Press down to Select [Open System], then Enter Select [2.WEP Menu] Select [1.WEP Setting] and Press down to Select [Enable], then Enter Select [2.WEPKey Length] and Press down to Select [64 bits] Select [4.WEP Key] Select [1.ASCII] :18:00 P. 4 of 23

7 4. Start using Application Generator 4.1 Open a program On PC side Open "Start->Programs->CipherLab 8071 Application Generator->CipherLab 8071 Application Generator" :18:00 P. 7 of 23

8 Right-click on the window to load the menu and click "Open..." Open the Application Generator File (*.ATF) This demonstration uses Online.ATF under C:\Program Files\CipherLab 8071 Application Generator\Samples\1 Online Data Capture :18:00 P. 8 of 23

11 4.2 Download an application On PC side: Right click on the Application Generator window and choose Preferences Select the correct COM port on your PC in order to download application :18:00 P. 11 of 23

12 4.2.2 On Terminal side: Turn on the Terminal Press [2] to enter the menu of "2.Utilities" Press [8] to load program On PC side: Right-click and choose "Download Application" :18:00 P. 12 of 23

13 Press OK on the "Download" dialog while the download is completed On Terminal side: The Terminal will automatically reload with the new application 4.3 Input Data and Receive Data The user needs to download an application (Part 4.2) before inputting data On Terminal side: Turn on the Terminal Press [1] to enter the menu of "1.Take data" Note: If there is no downloaded application in the terminal, it will show an error message No executable program when choosing Take data function on the menu Input Item No. and Quantity No. into the terminal Item No. Type in Item No. and press blue button or you can click the Scan Button to Scan The Barcode :18:00 P. 13 of 23

15 Select the Correct Local port (eg.1024) and the Location for the Receive file(eg. 18 Click RF Link>Connect Select the Correct Local port and Supported clients then click OK 4.5 Create/Edit an application To create/edit an application, please refer to Application Generator User s Guide chapter 3 thereafter.
