Equipment Introduction 1.1 Overview FlashMaxII is a high quality, high speed, and high capacity programming equipment that supports user file system (Bad block Management) as well as NOR and NAND memory. The FlashMaxII provides high productivity and reliability by optimizing algorithms, high speed, and intensive technology. FlashMaxII supports high-speed data downloads and both stand-alone and local mode operation. 1.2 Features - Stand Alone Gang programmer - Built-in PC Programmer - Supports high density flash Memory - Supports PC Software - Network operation - KeyPAD, LCD display, Status LEDs - Support NAND Bad Block Handling [ FlashMaxII-8G ] [ FlashMaxII-16G ] 2. 5 2 KEYPAD : Selects menu items and inputs data 3 ZIF Socket : Connects the equipment and adapters 1 Power Switch : Power ON/OFF switch 2 Power Inlet : AC Power Input 3 Frame Ground : Ground Equipment 4 Ethernet Connector : Connects Host PC and FlashMaxII through Ethernet Cable 5 RS-232C Connector : Connects Handler and FlashMaxII through RS232 Cable 4. Connecting Equipment 1) Connect the power cord to FlashMaxII and the wall outlet as shown below. 2) Connect your host PC and FlashMaxII with an Ethernet Cable. 5
6 3) For network setup, please refer to "9. Network Settings. 5. Basic Equipment Description 5.1 LCD 1) The LCD screen will initially consist of Menu screen (left) and Information Screen (right). 5.2 KEYPAD 1) The arrow keys are used to navigate the menus. 2) Use the ENTER and ESC keys to select the upper / lower menus, execute, or cancel. 3) Using keyboard shortcuts, operations can be executed immediately without needing to navigate menus. KEY Name Description 0 INFO Displays F/W version, Ethernet IP, and Serial No 6 CRC Calculates Checksum & CRC C AUTO AUTO operation executes a series of commands with no user intervention needed. 6
7 (ex> Erase->Program->Verify). This feature is useful for mass production. D ID Checks device ID 7 READ Reads the device in the master socket and saves the data in the Read Buffer. A BLANK Checks if device is pre-programmed. B VERIFY Checks if device data matches Buffer data. E ERASE Erases any data on device. F PROGRAM Programs buffer data to the device. 5.3 Status LED 1) The programming operation status of FlashMaxII is displayed by status LED indicator. 2) And as shown in the figure below, GREEN LED indicates normal, and RED LED indicates faulty. 5.4 Precautions Before Using FlashMaxII 1) FlashMaxII must be connected to the host PC. 2) The software in the host PC (GUI) and firmware of FlashMaxII must be the latest version. For instructions on how to upgrade firmware, please refer to 10. Firmware Upgrade. 3) Before using FlashMaxII, a Master Image must be downloaded to FlashMaxII. Master Image can be downloaded via the GUI of the host PC. 7

9 7. Basic Equipment Features 7.1 Select Device 1) Select the device to be programmed. Select Ex> MAIN MENU -> Select Dev -> SanDisk -> SDIN7DU2-8G(1GB). 1 You can use the arrow keys on the keypad to select menus 2 Use ENTER key to select and enter a sub menu. 7.2 ID Check 1) Checks the Manufacturer ID and Device ID of your device in order to ensure the device is correctly recognized. 9
10 7.3 Erase 1) Erase any data currently on the device. 7.4 Blank Check 1) Check if device contains no data. 10
11 7.5 Program 1) Programs Master Image in FlashMaxII buffer to the device. 7.6 Verify 1) Verify data in the device matches data in the FlashMaxII buffer. 11
12 7.7 Read 1) Reads data from device into FlashMaxII buffer. 7.8 Auto 1) Automatically executes 3 operations without need for user intervention: Erase > Program > Verify 12
13 7.9 Checksum and CRC 1) Calculate Checksum and CRC to verify the data integrity of the Master Image. 2) 13
14 7.10 Checking Firmware Version, IP, Serial Number 1) By pressing 0 on the keypad, firmware version, IP, and serial number is displayed. 8. How To Use 1) Turn on the power switch on the back of FlashMaxII. 2) Please wait until FlashMaxII is completely booted before attempting any operation. Once boot is complete, a menu is displayed as following: 14
15 3) Insert the adapter onto FlashMaxII. 4) Select a device to program - Select MAIN MENU -> Select Dev -> SanDisk -> SDIN7DU2-8G(1GB). - Use arrow keys to navigate among menus. - Use ENTER key to select a main menu and enter into a sub menu. 15
16 5) Use FlashMaxII GUI on the host PC to download Master Image to FlashMaxII buffer. Refer to the GUI manual for instruction on how to download. 6) Press 6 on the keypad to run Checksum and CRC. 7) Press C to run Auto. 16
17 8) After the Auto operation completes, check Pass/Fail via the LCD or LED status indicator. 17
18 9. Explanation of the Program 1. Forwarding the Information to the FlashMaxII(Z) Download: Download the Data from the PC into the FlashMaxII buffer. Upload: Upload the Data from the FlashMaxII buffer to the PC. Search: Network Connection Test (Same as the FIND icon) Upload Library: Synchronizes the uploaded library from the system with the library in the PC Program. * Run the update immediately after the download Firmware Update: Set up the Network on the FlashMaxII. Then choose the Folder to install the Update. 2. ICON Description 1) OPEN icon opens the SMD Binary 2) SAVE icon saves the SMD Binary onto the PC 3) Select icon selects the Device (Recommended that the Select is used after the Library has been uploaded to the PC.) 4) Selected icon matches the selected device in the PC to the FlashMaxII. 5) Down icon downloads the Data from the PC to the FlashMaxII. 6) Upload icon uploads the FlashMaxII Buffer to the PC. 7) Stop icon stops all running operations. 8) Edit icon opens the Hex Editor on the PC Program 9) Find icon searches for the connected networks. 10) Erase, Blank, Program, Verify, Read, Auto, ID Check, Chksum, AdtChk icons operates the commands on the FlashMaxII from the PC Program. (Network Service option) 18
19 10. Network Settings A. If you connect the FlashMaxII to a switch, router, or hub, use a standard Ethernet cable (straightthrough). If you connect the FlashMaxII to a host PC, use a cross-over Ethernet cable. Additionally, if you connect it to a private network or one-to-one connection rather than the Internet or a router, set the IP address to XXX, and subnet mask to B. Select MAIN MENU -> Network -> Protocol menu. C. Depending on network environment select either DHCP or STATIC. Then wait until the message [IP Renew...] disappears. DHCP: Choose this if an IP address is assigned by a router or DHCP server instead of manually setting the IP addresses. STATIC : Choose this if you manually set the IP addresses. D. Select MAIN MENU -> Network -> IP Config and set the IP addresses E. Depending on the network environment, configure IP/SUBNET MASK/GATEWAY/DNS. Then, wait until the message, [IP Renew...] disappears. In case of DHCP, you can only check the IP configuration assigned by the router or DCHP server but cannot directly make changes. F. Select MAIN MENU -> Network -> Serv Port 19
20 G. Set the network port number and password. The port number is the port number to use when accessing network services from GUI on host PC to FlashMaxII. (Default port number is 8678). Except the port numbers that is already used by Windows operating system (135, 139, 445, 1031, and 3389), you can use 1 through Password is the security password used when accessing from GUI on host PC to FlashMaxII. You can choose up to seven alphanumeric characters between 0 ~ 9 and A ~ Z. When you check the set value, you can move to the right end of the password. H. Select MAIN MENU -> Network -> Net Config I. Turns on and off of the Network Service. When connecting from the GUI to FlashMaxII it must always be set to On. J. GUI Main Menu -> Option -> General Config -> Network Tab K. Input the network information from the FlashMaxII 20
21 L. GUI Main Menu-> Transfer -> Find After clicking on Find, the using procedure is the same as the existing GUI. 21
22 M. GUI Main Menu-> Transfer -> USB Mode N. Select NETWORK then click OK 11. Firmware Upgrade 11.1 Firmware Upgrade Using USB Memory Stick A. Uncompress the firmware file and copy it to a USB Memory Stick Ex) In this example, a folder, MM6_1009_15A, is created, and the uncompressed files (mm6.exe and mm6.dat) are saved under the folder. 22
23 B. Connect the USB Memory Stick to FlashMaxII. Ex) It is recognized as E: drive. C. Select Main Menu -> Config -> FW Update -> E:/MM6_1009_15A, and choose mm6.exe. 23
24 D. Wait until FlashMaxII reboots. E. Check Main Menu -> Config -> Ver Info and ensure the firmware is correctly updated 11.2 Firmware Update Using Network A. Main Menu of GUI on the host PC -> Transfer ->. 24
25 B. Select the folder where the Firmware is saved. C. Please wait until the Firmware finishes booting. D. GUI Main Menu-> Transfer ->USB Mode E. Select NETWORK, then click OK 25

27 12. Guide to the SMD Binary Rom Copy - SMD Binary exists as the 000.smd, 000.bin files. If the SMD Binary file does not exist, Rom Copy -use Binary can be obtained from the S/W. 28 4 File Open 5 Download Select NETWORK. There are 2 ways to Copy; it is recommended that the copy is performed through the FlashMaxII. 1) Copying through the FlashMaxII: On the start-up screen on the FlashMaxII, pressing C, F1 on the keypad runs the Erase->Program->Verify process. 2) Copying through the PC Program (See the picture below) 6 Rom Copy 28
29 13. Using the Master Rom Through Emulator Board, Socket Board, and Current Board, S/W Binary can be downloaded then can be read by the FlashMaxII to use the Copy function. Steps Operation FlashMaxII (System Set-up) PC Program (Running the PC Program) 1 Firmware Update Select Network. Firmware 2 Upload Library Select Network. 3 Device Select 29
30 4 Master Rom Read Go back from the Network Service by pressing ESC. Afterwards, insert the Adapter in the Master Rom (#1 Gang) then press the Read button to read the Adapter. Wait until the Checksum/CRC shows. *Run the Read function twice to check if the Checksum/CRC match There are 2 ways to Copy; it is recommended that the copy is performed through the FlashMaxII. 1) Copying through the FlashMaxII: On the start-up screen on the FlashMaxII, pressing C, F1 on the keypad runs the Erase->Program->Verify process. 2) Copying through the PC Program (See the picture below) 5 Rom Copy 30
31 14. Additional Information Acquiring the Checksum / CRC After running Read, the Checksum/CRC is automatically calculated on the FlashMaxII. Run the Read function twice and check if the Checksum and CRC match both times. For the PC Program, view the pictures below. 31
