1 Customer Release Notes - Release Build NOTE: This release is approved for English, Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese and Swedish. Items in italics are updates since the previous release. Product: PostScript Print Driver for Macintosh (PS Print Driver) for OS X New Items: The PS Print Driver has been developed for use with the Macintosh OS X Native v.10.3 or later. This PS Print Driver supports Japanese, French, German, Italian, Spanish, Danish, Dutch, Norwegian, Portuguese and Swedish, for those brands that support the language. Known issues at the time of this release: Installation Issues a) Installing similarly branded drivers may cause the second driver to overwrite the first driver. (#39527) During installation of the driver, if a similarly branded driver is already installed, the system may overwrite the already installed driver. When this happens only one driver may appear on the driver list and on the add printer window. Adding the driver again may result in a general error message. Prior to installing the second driver, make sure to delete the receipt file for the installed driver. This will cause the system to treat the installation like a new driver. The files that need to be deleted are Filter.pkg and Printing Dialog Extension 10.3.pkg. (See below) Job Setup Issues a) Selecting Punch On for specific page may not update the display. (#39081) When selecting Punch On for a specific page, the page number may not automatically display on the screen. 1

2 Click on the text entry field, and the page number will appear. b) Can t reset page to 2-sided after adding force 1-sided insert before page. (#39036) Once an insert is selected before a page that is set as a Force 1-Sided page, it is no longer possible to reset the page to a 2-Sided mode. Select the layout first (2-Sided mode) for the page, then select the Insert Before or Insert After the page. c) Selecting and deselecting pages within a continuous range with exceptions applied, results in all pages having incorrect settings. (#39034) On the Job Setup window, if a page range is added on the Page Features tab with a layout or paper exception applied to continuous pages within the range, and then some of those same pages are deselected and then reselected with a different layout or paper exception applied, then all pages within the original continuous range will have the newly applied layout in error. Only apply one set of features to pages within a range. d) Negative values for Image Alignment settings in the Page Features window are no longer accessible via the arrow buttons. (#39002) In the Image Alignment Page Features window, if a value greater than zero is entered in the X or Y fields, the negative range of values is no longer accessible via the arrow buttons. Either select the Reset to 0 button or type a minus (-) sign in the X or Y field to force a negative value. e) When trying to select the backside for printed sides for page features, a message is displayed saying it is not allowed for 1-sided papers. (#39001) If a page range is selected on the Page Features tab with layout applied to some of the pages within that range as 2-Sided flip on Long Edge, this enables printing on the backside of the paper. When trying to select the backside for printed sides, a message will appear that says this is not allowed for a 1-sided paper. 2

3 Select the Update button after applying the 2-Sided flip on Long Edge and before the backside is selected. f) Covers will not be punched if Punch is selected on the Finishing tab prior to selecting Covers. (#38781) If Punch is selected on the Finishing tab prior to selecting Covers, the covers will not be punched. To punch front and back covers, covers have to be selected prior to selecting punch. To punch the front or back covers, go to the Punch tab and select the Front Cover Paper and Back Cover Paper. g) will not work when entering diacritical characters in the field.(#38778) Even though the field allows text entry of diacritical characters, this feature will not work when diacriticals are entered. Do not enter diacritical characters in the field. h) Cursor keys no longer functions after setting Image Alignment or Edge Erase fields to their maximum value when the unit of measurement is inch. (#38777) When the Image Alignment or Edge Erase fields on the Image Adjustment tab are at the maximum absolute value and the unit of measurement is set to "inch" then the cursor keys (left/right) are no longer functional within the field and prevent any direct editing. When the unit of measurement is set to "mm" or a value other than the maximum is entered in the Image Alignment or Edge Erase fields, the cursor keys work as expected. Switch to unit of measurement mm and change the value to something smaller. Switch back to the unit of inch to edit the field. i) You get unexpected results when you setup multiple page exceptions, some of which overlap. (#39013). It is possible to setup a job with multiple page exceptions for a single page by defining sets of page exceptions that overlap. When you do this, you may get unexpected results in your output. 3

4 Make sure that you do not define multiple page exceptions for any single page. j) Custom commands that contain diacriticals may not be interpreted correctly. (#40443). The User Defined Custom Command field and Custom Command File option allow you to customize a print job by entering printer control commands to access specific printer features that the user interface does not provide. The Driver does not validate any custom commands entered by the user since it does not know what commands the printer may accept. ASCII characters in the range are the same on the Mac and the Printer. Characters outside this range, such as diacritical characters, do not necessarily match between the printer and the Mac. The Printer may misinterpret any characters entered outside the range of ASCII in the Custom Command fields on the Mac PS Driver. Only enter ASCII characters, 0-127, in the Custom Commands fields. Printing Issues a) Some applications may not supply the document title to the Print Driver. Some applications may not supply the document title to the Macintosh Print Driver's Print Dialogue Extension (PDE) until the printing dialog is dismissed. In these cases, the PDE will use the login user name, the current date, and current time as the document title. None b) The Print Dialog Extension is not always visible when selecting printing. When you select printing, the Print Dialog Extension may not always be completely visible. Reposition the print dialog when you select printing in order for the Print Dialog Extension to be visible. To get more information on Macintosh OS X printing, go to the web site: c) The wrong number of copies print and some of the copies are uncollated. (#39928) When you request to staple 3 copies of a 2 page job you may get a result that looks like: [1 1 1] [2 2 2] [1 1 1] [2 2 2] [1 1 1] [2 2 2] where [n..n] indicates pages are stapled together. The Collated option on the Print dialogue on the Mac PostScript Driver is controlled by the application which generates n copies of each page. The PostScript driver in turn generates a copy of what the application generates, or n copies of the uncollated pages. 4

5 To get the correct collation and number of copies, use the Collate option listed under Printer Options on the Job Setup screen. This option is controlled by the Driver, and will result in accurate output. Do not select the Collated option on the Print dialogue. Problems with Previous Releases of the Driver that Have Been Fixed: The Print Driver crashes on OS systems when printing using a Macintosh account that has a long user name and the Printer has a long product name. (#42338) Use the Macintosh Paper Management Utility (PMU) on OS X to modify the paper catalog for the driver. You can find the location of the Paper Catalog files by going to the Page Features > Paper Catalog screen. The path to the Paper Catalog is displayed in this window. 5

6 Removing the driver To completely remove the driver from your system, you will need to delete all of the files in all of the locations indicated below: Paper Catalog: /Library/Application Support/<company name>/<product name>/<product code>.xx.cat /Library/Application Support/<company name>/<product name>/<product code>.xx.cat.atr /Library/Application Support/<company name>/<product name>/<product code>.xx.cat.dat /Library/Application Support/<company name>/<product name>/<product code>.xx.def where xx is a 2 character code indicating the language. Printer Driver: /Library/Printers/<company name>/<product name>/<product code>.plugin PPD: /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/xx.lproj/<product code>_xx.ppd where xx is a 2 character code indicating the language Filter: /usr/libexec/cups/filter/<product name>-filter.pkg Preference: After using the driver for the first time, a preference file is created: /Users/<username>/Library/Preferences/<company name>/<product name>/psd.plist Receipt: /Library/Receipts/<company name product name>.pkg 6
