1 Changes and Additions from SoftMax Pro to SoftMax Pro The primary change to SoftMax Pro from versions and is the addition of support for FlexStation II and FlexStation II 384. FlexStation instruments are supported in the Drug Discovery edition and SoftMax Pro Enterprise. Additionally, reported problems were fixed and some features were enhanced. A list of the fixes and features can be found in section 2 at the end of this document. SoftMax Pro Changes and Additions Page 1 of 7

2 1. FlexStation II and FlexStation II 384 FLEX read mode Changes The FLEX read mode instrument setup for FlexStation II and FlexStation II 384 differ from the description of FlexStation s FLEX read mode in the manual. Those changes are described in this section. The non-flex read modes are the same as those listed in the manual for FlexStation. SoftMax Pro Changes and Additions Page 2 of 7

3 1.1. Wavelength: The FlexStation II and FlexStation II 384 include a cutoff filter of 325. All other cutoff filters are the same as the original FlexStation Assay and Compound plate settings: Assay and Compound plate choices are identified by the number of wells instead of the number of columns. FlexStation II and FlexStation II 384 continue to transfer fluid a single column at a time FlexStation II can only dispense to 96-well assay plates. The choice of assay plates is limited to 96-well plates. The choice of compound plates is limited to those that can be used by FlexStation II s compound transfer head. 4 1.3. FlexStation II 384 uses both 96 and 384-well assay plates. The choice of assay plates and compound plates must be compatible with the installed compound transfer head installed in the FlexStation II 384. When you start a read, SoftMax Pro checks that the FlexStation II 384 has the compound transfer head needed to carry out the instrument read settings. The read will only continue if the correct transfer head is found. See the FlexStation II 384 manual for a list of plates and troughs that are compatible with each compound transfer head The fluid aspiration rate in the Compound Transfer tab now indicates the approximate aspiration rate as microliters per second: SoftMax Pro Changes and Additions Page 4 of 7

5 1.5. The Wells to Read section will show the number of wells in the assay plate. Switching between assay plates with different well counts resets the Wells To Read to read all wells. SoftMax Pro Changes and Additions Page 5 of 7

6 1.6. The Pipette Tips Layout matches the number of wells in the assay plate. Like the Wells To Read, when you switch between plates with different well counts, the Pipette Tips Layout is reset. Specifying the correct pipette tips is crucial to proper instrument control. Be sure that the physical pipette tip layout matches the layout specified in SoftMax Pro. A mismatch could cause the damage to the tips, the tips not seating properly, or other problems. SoftMax Pro Changes and Additions Page 6 of 7

7 2. Modifications and fixes to the SoftMax Pro release: 2.1. Fixed printing problem in zoomed wells on Macintosh where the title and axis labels were missing Fixed a printing problem with Group tables where the group names and group blank failed to print Enhanced the plate export in the Enterprise version to export the name of the person who read the plate as Read by: Name Fixed a problem with the ThermoMAX Filters dialog refresh on the Macintosh Fixed a problem with conflict with Autosave and Autoread when the Autoread interval was too short Fixed a problem with the audit trail reporting that a Gemini EM had been selected when SpectraMax Plus 384 was selected in the Preferences dialog Fixed a problem where Column Priority rather than AutoRead was available in the SpectraMax 384 instrument setup Fixed a problem in SpectraMax Gemini setup when switching to luminescence where range checking errors were reported incorrectly Fixed a problem in the audit trail where changes to well scan or spectrum modes were incorrectly reported as changes to kinetic reductions Fixed a problem where the baud rate popup menu was visible when instruments other than FlexStation were selected Fixed a problem where the cutoff filter was not set to a default value when switching between instruments.
