Though this documentation is specific to MAT153, it can be generalized for use with web folder setup for any class. You must have your SBCC Pipeline Username and Password before you start this procedure. Login Procedure 1) Open a web browser and type the Xythos URL ( into the Address field. 2) Enter your SBCC Pipeline Username and Password. Click on the GO button. You will enter the Main Xythos interface. Page 1 of 1

2 Creating and Sharing a Web Folder for MAT153 1) In the File Management Toolbar, click on the New Directory button. 2) In the Directory Name field, enter MAT153. This is a web folder, so do not include spaces (do not include the period after MAT153). Click on the OK button. 3) In order to seethe folder and its contents over the Internet, Xythos requires that the directory be shared. Click on the Manage icon in the row that corresponds to the MAT153 folder you just created. Page 2 of 2

3 4) On the Directory Management page, look for the Collaboration section at the top. Click on the Sharing: link. 5) On the Directory Permissions page, click on the Read checkbox in the Public row. Confirm that the permissions will Apply the changed permissions to this directory as well as its sub-directories and files, and then click on the Apply button. 6) You will be asked to confirm your permission changes. Click on the OK button. Sharing Permissions have now been applied and the process of creating and sharing a new web folder is complete. However, you must get one piece of information before you leave the Xythos interface. 7) Click once on the Back button to return to the Manage Directory page. 8) In the Directory Properties section, find the Full URL:. Select the URL, and then Copy it into the Paste buffer. This URL is also the web address to connect to your site for viewing. Page 3 of 3

4 9) You may now logout of the Xythos interface, and launch Dreamweaver CS3. Dreamweaver Remote Info Once the web folder has been created and shared, you may connect to it from Dreamweaver. You do not have to be on campus to connect. You will be able to connect to this folder from anywhere on the Internet. 1) Launch Dreamweaver CS3, assuming you have not yet defined a site, click on Site, New Site, and then click on the Advanced tab. 2) Complete the Local Info Category page. a) The Site Name is for you only. It does not show up anywhere on the Internet web site. Be descriptive. b) The Local Root Folder is the single most important piece of information. If this is not entered, or incorrect, Dreamweaver will not be able to properly manager your web site. In fact, an incorrectly specified Site Root Folder can break your web pages. The Site Root Folder is where your index.htm lives. c) The Images folder is generally directly off of your Site Root Folder. d) Links should always be Relative to Document. e) I like to use Case-sensitive Link Checking. This will make sure your site works on both Windows and UNIX servers. f) Always Enable Cache. This will speed up edits, especially to larger sites (>100 pages). Page 4 of 4

5 3) Select the Remote Info Category. a) Access: WebDAV b) Click in the URL field, and paste the URL you copied from the Xythos Directory Properties page. c) Example: I pasted this string into the URL field: I made the two (2) following changes in red: Https, encrypts your transmissions to and from the server, protecting your username and password information. The final slash (/) tells the server that you are requesting a folder, and not a file. d) The Login is your Pipeline Username. e) Password is your Pipeline Password. Page 5 of 5

6 4) Once you have entered this information, click on the Test button. You should receive an alert that says you successfully connected to the web server. Click on the OK button to clear the alert. 5) Click on the OK button on the bottom of the Dreamweaver Site Definition window. There are more categories to setup, but that is not part of this document. 6) On the Manage Sites Window, click on the Done button. You are now ready to upload your web site. I Forgot My Pipeline Credentials It is a requisite for this procedure to know your SBCC Pipeline Username and Password. If you forget, or do not know, your Username and Password, follow this set of instructions to get them. 1) Open the SBCC home page in your browser ( 2) Click on the Pipeline link. 3) On the main Pipeline page, find the Start Here! section. Click on the Find My Username link and then follow the instructions. Page 6 of 6
