1 Grand Mac SIG Newsletter January, 2014 Volume IX, Number 1 Grand Mac SIG January 20 Meeting 4:30 PM Apache Room The Mac SIG January meeting will feature information on Google by Nancy Collins Google by Nancy Collins January 20, 2014 The presentation for this meeting on Google includes a brief history on Google and information on three specific applications: Gmail, Google Docs, and Google Drive. Many people find Gmail provides an easy environment for new users to sign up, learn to use, and be able to access their accounts while the sophisticated user can utilize as many or as few of the advanced features as needed. We will look at setting up an account and a few of the more technical features. Google Docs allows users to create and save word documents, spreadsheets and presentations or Docs, Sheets, and Slides as Google calls them, for free on the Internet. We will show how to create documents on the Internet and also how to access the three programs through free Apps on tablets and smartphones. People who use Google Drive are provided 15 gigabytes of free storage space in which to store all the documents and files they use or create that can be accessed and shared from any computer, tablet, or smartphone through any WiFi connection. Finally, we will show how easy it is to save to and access sample files. We invite you to bring your Mac friends and neighbors to join us at this event. Cookies & door prizes!! 1 January 2014

2 Welcome New Mac SIG Members Welcome to these new Mac users since our December newsletter: Marcia Bernstein, Joyce Holobek, Harold Enslen, Diane Nasholm, Gale Stewart, There are 237 Mac users on our list to date, up from 221 Mac users in December. There are 1025 members in the Grand Computers Club. The 237 Mac members are 23% of the club. Our membership has been increasing steadily. Please continue this by renewing your membership at grandcomputers.org or at the club room. Note From Your Mac SIG Facilitator: Joyce Kloncz Happy New Year, Mac Users! We take this time to thank our many volunteers: those who teach our classes, those who assist at our meetings, those who scan membership cards, those who bring treats to our monthly meetings, our presenters, and those who provide other support to make our Mac SIG the viable organization for which we have strived. We hope you ll continue to support us by taking our classes and attending our monthly meetings. Winter Class Registration Class information is available at Registration for Mac winter classes will be held online starting January 13 at 8AM. If you need help with online registration, you can come to the classroom after 9AM on Monday - Thursday of that week. The Mac SIG is offering many Mac classes this semester. We have eight Mac instructors and we thank them for giving of their time to promote Macs and our Mac SIG: Geoff Buxton, Nona Kempton, Joyce Kloncz, Art McCall, Doug Ralston, Ann Sawyer, Sam Valenti, and Gloria Volland. And it gives you 160 templates for just about every occasion you can imagine. It downloads to your Mail program and all you have to do is open a New Message > Show Stationery > Custom.
