2 Before starting the comparedocs install You must have local administrator rights to be able to install the software.net must be installed on your Windows machine. You will be able to download it through the DocsCorp Resource Center if you do not already have the program. Close all Microsoft Office and DMS client applications that are running on the computer you are installing the software on prior to installing comparedocs

3 Downloading

4 Accessing the Resource Portal 1 1. Type into your browser 2. Log in with your address and Password. These were sent to you previously via 2

5 Download the comparedocs trial 1. Once the My Software page displays, click on the comparedocs link in the Downloads/Support column The Downloads page will display. From here you can download the software, MS.NET as well as Release Notes and User Guide Click the comparedocs download software link 3. Click the Download button 2 3

6 Installing comparedocs 1. Move the comparedocs installer downloaded earlier to a specific folder where the installer and future updates will be run from. If there are multiple users, ensure comparedocs is in a location that these users have Read/Write access to. 2. Double-click on the comparedocs installer file 3. Follow the onscreen instructions, clicking the Next button until installation is complete 4. Click on the comparedocs icon on your Desktop to open the application

7 Adding the comparedocs license 1. Click on the Settings Cog and select About 2. Click on the Set License button 3. Copy and paste the Licensed To and License Number key into the appropriate fields 2 This number can be obtained from the My Software page. It must be entered exactly as it appears there. See example on the right If you have access to the E-Learning modules, paste in the License key in the E-Learning field 4 5. Click the OK button and OK again to exit 5

10 Compare two Word documents 1 1. Double-click on the comparedocs icon The comparedocs application displays. 2. Click on the Original [Open] button and navigate to the document. Select the original file and click [Open] Note: you can drag and drop documents in the Original and Modified fields. 3. Click on the Modified[Open] button Set the Document Output to Word 5. Set the Report Type to Track Changes 7 6. The Rendering Set should be set to Standard [Server] 7. Click the [Compare] button and select the View As New Document option The Comparison Report opens in a new MS Word document, marked up with Track Changes. You can now accept/reject the changes.

11 Compare two PDF documents 1. Locate the Original PDF document on your system. Drag and drop it onto the Original document field 2. Drag and drop the Modified document onto the Modified document field Select PDF as the Document Output type 4. Click on the Report Type drop-down and select one Choose report marked up with annotations to see the changes displayed with PDF annotations. Choose report marked up with redline or track changes to see a Word comparison of the documents in PDF format Click on the [Compare] drop-down and select the View As New Document option The Marked up document displays in your PDF viewer.

12 Compare Word to PDF documents 1. Load an Original Word and a text-based Modified PDF document into the appropriate document fields 2. Choose the Document Output as Word 3. Choose Consolidated report marked up with Track Changes Choose the Rendering Set 5. Click on the [Compare] button and choose View As New Document 6. Click OK 5 The Comparison Report displays in Word. You can now review the document for changes. 6

13 Additional comparison workflows comparedocs provides you with a number of time-saving document comparison workflows. For example, you can compare the Original and Modified documents and , print or save the Comparison Report to a local drive or into your DMS as part of the same process. If you have a DMS, it will appear as an option on the [Compare] button drop-down. This will compare the two documents, allowing you to then save and profile the Comparison Report directly into your DMS. comparedocs will automatically detect that you have a DMS on your system and provide the appropriate DMS options. comparedocs integrates with leading DMS providers imanage, NetDocuments, OpenText, ProLaw and Worldox. It also integrates with SharePoint.

14 Try this: Compare with Redline Output 1. From Windows Explorer or supported DMS, select two documents, right-click and select Compare with comparedocs 2. Select Word from the Document Option 3. Select Consolidated report marked up with redline from the Report Type 4. Check the Summary Report option 5. Click Compare and choose Save As 6. Save the Comparison Report to your desktop Comparison will complete and the redline document will open in Word. Note: If using a DMS, you can select Save Into to show the integration with the DMS.

15 Try this: Compare with Track Changes Output 1. Open both your original and modified documents in Word 2. In the original document, click Launch in comparedocs from the DocsCorp ribbon 3. Navigate to the modified document, and click Launch in comparedocs from the DocsCorp ribbon Both documents should now be in comparedocs. Switch the documents if required. 4. Select Word as the Document Output option 5. Select the Consolidated report marked up with track changes option as the Report Type option 6. Deselect all report options 7. Click Compare and choose View As New Document You can now accept/reject the changes in the usual manner.

16 Try this: comparison with redline output 1. Click Original Open button. Select a document from either DMS or Windows Explorer 2. Click the Modified Open button and select a document 3. Select PDF as the Document Output option. NOTE: This means that the output Comparison Report will be converted to PDF 4. Select Consolidated Report marked up with Redline for Report Type 5. Click Compare and select /Copy to Clipboard 6. Select the option on the /Copy Documents dialog box Note: Documents can be copied to the clipboard for pasting into an existing message or desktop etc. 7. Select the Comparison Result and the Modified document from the select documents section. Note: All documents can be selected if required. 8. Click OK. The message opens with your documents attached

17 Try this: Compare two PDFs and output to Word 1. Open comparedocs and load in two PDF documents 2. Select Word as the Document Output 3. Select Consolidated report marked up with Redline as the Report Type 4. Click Compare and choose View As New Document Text-based PDFs are given the option to OCR if OCR is available to you (as shown in the screenshot to the right). Image-based PDFs are automatically OCR d if OCR is available to you (the Conversion prompt will not appear in this case). 5. Click OK. The comparison document opens in Word. Scroll up and down to see the changes. Note: The output could have been converted to PDF.

18 Try this: Compare two Excel spreadsheets Note: You need Office 2013 or above to perform this exercise. 1. Load the Original and Modified Excel spreadsheets into comparedocs 2. Select the Excel Document Output option 3. Click the Compare button and View As New Document The Spreadsheet Compare viewer displays showing the changes that were made to the spreadsheet.
