What s New for Quick Terrain Modeler Version April 15, 2011 (planned release date) New v7.1.3 Features: Quick Terrain Modeler adds significant new capabilities that range from a very fast indexing tool that allows users to quickly inventory and visually display their geospatial holdings, to an image registration tool that assists in accurately placing poorly registered (or unregistered) imagery on top of a 3D scene. Here is a summary of the new capabilities: Indexing Tool The purpose of the new indexing tool is to quickly catalog LiDAR and imagery holdings and export the catalog to KML, SHP, or CSV file. It can be found in the Export Menu. Simply open the index tool, specify a directory, drive, or external storage device, and let QTM do the rest. Export options include KML/KMZ, SHP, and/or CSV file and can be organized by existing directory structure or by file type. The resulting product is a group of vectors that represent the coverage of your LiDAR and imagery holdings. It is a very fast tool that lets you easily understand the extents and coverage of your holdings by visually interacting with them in Google Earth or ArcMap. Image Registration Tool: The purpose of the image registration tool is to give users a powerful, interactive tool to register imagery to elevation data. The new interface is accessible from a button on the Overlay Orthorectified Textures interface, which is accessed either from the textures menu or from the Overlay Orthorectified Textures button. The steps are fairly simple: Load a model, select an unregistered (or poorly registered) image, create a few tie points, and snap the image into place. Vector Annotation: Vector annotation uses the existing measurement line tool to create vector lines which remain in the model to point out and delineate features and areas of interest. Annotation vectors can be created several ways: After placing a mensuration line, use the Vector Export pull-down to select either a point to point vector or a sampled vector. While placing a mensuration line, type V to end the line. This will create a sampled (i.e., terrain-hugging) vector. While placing a mensuration line, type SHIFT-V to end the line. This will create an unsampled (i.e., point to point) vector. Use the Configure Vector Models tool in the Display menu to change the color and thickness, changed to dashed/dotted, and/or add arrowheads. Range Rings: Range rings enable a very simple visualization of distances from a given point. Range rings are user-configurable, with choices that are optimized for both DEM s and point clouds. New File Formats: Open/Import: IMG DEM Export: IMG/IGE (this will support export of DEM s greater than 4GB in size), USGS DEM New Hot Keys: N: Move Model to a north-up, nadir view (i.e., viewing straight down the Z axis), centering the view on the location that was already in the center of the view. SHIFT-N: Holding down SHIFT causes a red box to appear. Typing N causes QTM to go to a north up nadir view as noted above, but with the red box at the center. Left clicking will pull up the point interrogation window.

Double Click: Move cursor anywhere, double click to bring the point under the cursor to the center of the view. Orientation and zoom will be preserved (i.e., it will not necessarily be a north-up, nadir view.) K: Hold down K, move cursor to the vicinity of an existing marker, then left click and drag to move the marker. V: Create a sampled (i.e., terrain hugging) vector by typing V to end a mensuration line. Remember to set default vector display properties in the Display Configure Vector Models menu. SHIFT-V: Create an unsampled (i.e., point to point) vector by typing SHIFT-V a mensuration line. Remember to set default vector display properties in the Display Configure Vector Models menu. Route Editor/GPS Export Upgrades: Version adds significant capabilities in custom route creation/editing, exporting routes and waypoints to handheld GPS units, and exporting georegistered images as custom maps to Garmin GPS devices. Some of the highlights: Route Editor: o Added buttons to move all markers from the Markers list to the Route list and vice versa. You no longer need to double click each marker to add it to the route. o Added a Reverse Order button to quickly flip the order of the markers in the route. o Added a Rename button that quickly renames and renumbers all markers in a route. For example, a route marker list of Marker1 through Marker20 can be reversed in sequence and renamed CP20 through CP1 with 2 button clicks. o Only visible markers will be exported as part of the route, so there is a new Show/Hide Markers button on the Route interface that allows quick access to o that function. The ground distance of the route as well as the terrain profile of the route can be seen in the View as Mensuration window. Exporting Georegistered Imagery to Garmin GPS: The Render Screen to Registered Image function in the Export menu now exports georegistered screen grabs as JPG/KMZ in exactly the format that Garmin GPS devices need to use the images as a Custom Map. This will make chipping images and sending them to Garmin GPS very fast and simple. The Garmin is still subject to a maximum 3MB image size, but this can be achieved by reducing QT Modeler s window size. New Triangulation Interpolation Methodologies for DEM Creation and Editing: Version adds significant new capability in DEM generation and editing. One of the most helpful new features is the implementation of a Natural Neighbor smoothing algorithm that can more gracefully and intelligently fill holes in coverage. This new fill method will be particularly useful in rugged terrain and could also be helpful in filling holes in existing surface models (e.g., DTED s). Added "Snap Increment" to Gridding Options. This sets the amount to which the grid edge is rounded off. Most fill methods make a final simple interpolation pass along the edges of the DEM to try to fill in single-bin-width empty edges. Model/Image Search Upgrades: In recognition of the fact that searching for LiDAR data and associated imagery takes an inordinately large amount of many users time, QTM version implements a search caching tool that can vastly accelerate searches. To create a cache, open a search window, select a directory, and press generate cache. This establishes a baseline for data and imagery contained in that folder and all subfolders.

To search from a cache, press "Select Cache", and select the cache file, then proceed as normal To search from a directory (i.e., the old way), press "Select Directory", and select the directory, then proceed as normal Quick Terrain Reader Upgrades: Quick Terrain Reader v7.1.3 natively opens LAS files and NITF-wrapped LAS files (i.e., NGA s.ntf LAS files) Quick Terrain Reader will now display RGB values when opening LAS files that have RGB color values embedded. Tweaks Added "Clear colors in area" to selection area context menu. This will assist in raster cleanup of analysis results. AGL Alpha Clipping shows scale in meters rather than in the (8-bits) range. If you attempt to edit an attribute of a marker that does not have that attribute, the markers will be given default attributes to match the table. Tweaked folder selection dialog to fix Windows7 issue. Added a "Clear Black" button to texture editors, to enable users to make black border regions invisible. Multi-File Previewer will now max out at 10 files (was performing unacceptably slowly selecting multiple files over a network) Added button to Model Search Tool to load marker at search coordinate. "Smooth Area" should work more consistently, and use smooth interpolation. Added "Height by Z" and "Height by AGL" to "QTA" dropdown context menu. Added ability to export point clouds to either standard SHP or multipoint SHP Updated to GDAL 1.8 "Render to (GeoTIFF)" function now supports JPG, PNG, NITF, and BMP. "Render to (GeoTIFF)" now includes option to wrap image in KMZ. Mission Export only exports markers which have not been hidden. Added ability to "Open" Erdas Imagine DEMs. Updated support files and code to use GDAL Added "GDAL Supported DEM" to import options. This enables you to import from any GDAL supported raster DEM format to QTT. Updated support files and code to use MRSID SDK Added ability to export point clouds to either standard SHP or multipoint SHP. Tweaked PowerPoint export to assist in supporting MS Office 2010 Tweaked memory usage patterns. QTA buffers now use buffer pools. Tweaked memory usage measurement routines. Tweaked memory manager. Among other things, markers should use much, much less memory. Spruced up "Point Info Display" box. QTA access to compressed BPF files should now be *much* faster. QTA preuncompresses the BPF to its temp folder at first access. Moving speed in "flight mode" should no longer slow down nearly so much when close to the model. Closing "Edit Texture" window should no longer delete the texture. Added "GEOTIFF Export Option" for forcing nodata colors to black and real data which is black (0,0,0) to (1,0,0). Flex version now falls back to Sentinel Floating File Preview window should show more info about GDAL files

Models should be able to handle up to 100,000 point cut/crop/export selection operations Show/Hide Markers window should now auto-update as markers are created/deleted elsewhere. Added options to show 3D Length, 2D Length, and Ground Distance in Mensuration popup. Added option in "Set Model Position" dialog to alter the model "NoData" value. This will delete any data points below the NoData value! Added right-click context menu to Multi Variate Filtering filter dialog to enable you to remove filters one by one, rather than deleting the entire list. Renamed "Show/Hide Markers" to "Marker Manager". Added Info Text to Marker Manager. Reorganized buttons on Marker Manager a bit. Marker Options: Marker Size can now be "Fixed (m)", "Fixed (pixels)", or "Auto (m)" Added "Options" button to Marker Manager. You can now import a Shapefile Linestring as a selection area (before it had to be a polygon). Added button to Model Search to set search point to center of loaded models. Bug Fixes Fixed: Issue tallying return numbers when exporting LAS from QTA LAS. Fixed: Issue sampling height after loading vector file. Fixed: Fixed issue with file auto-naming and importing while splitting classification. Fixed: Marker Export to TXT/CSV and UTM Header Fixed issue sampling height after loading vector file. Fixed issue tallying return numbers when exporting LAS from QTA LAS. Fixed some issues with camera movement while vector models are loaded. Fixed RGB scaling issue importing ASCII XYZRGB to QTA Fixed issue with point-query on multiple BPF file imports. Fixed issues handling QTA intensity/alpha scaling when not autoscaling. File Previewer now supports BPF extra header info. Fixed tab order in coordinate converter window. Fixed file-preview outlines for QVC. Fixed issues with KMZ Superoverlay and Geodetic models. Fixed issues with KMZ Superoverlay Color Image. Fixed issue with Set Classification, Crop, and Polygon Select. Fixed bug in GDAL Import when ILAP Plugin is *not* present. Fixed: Issue with Texture Search Tool sometimes losing directory to search. Fixed: Some assorted issues with Model search incorrectly ruling out certain GEOTIFF DEMs generated by old versions of QTM. Fixed: Reading of very old GEOTIFFs with only 2 tiepoints. Fixed: Crash bug exporting texture to RGB24 GeoTIFF. Fixed: issue reading newer LibLAS generated LAS geokeys. Fixed: Fixed issue with "Edit Scripted Action" creating duplicate actions Fixed issue rendering routes with auto-sized markers. Fixed issue with display of geodetic marker coordinates on a UTM South model. QT Window should no longer become unresponsive during large texture import. Fixed issue reading QTC files misnamed as *.qtt files. Fixed an issue with Height histograms exported from Model Info. Fixed issue importing certain Classless LAS as QTC. Fixed some issues autoscaling colors when all color values in the file are identical

Split "Render Screen to GEOTIFF" into "Render to Registered Image" and "Render to Unregistered Image". These functions are no longer limited to GEOTIFF format. "Registered" is only possible if you are in 2D mode. Fixed radio buttons in "Mensuration Options" dialog. Fixed issue with QT previewer not properly displaying the Vertical Units Geokey for GEOTIFFs
