9 Chapter Overview - Control Panel Overview The standard control panel of the MAV-777 provides a wide range of functions allowing you to take full advantage of the hard disk as a nonlinear editing device. This chapter describes the main features of the control panel, as well as editing and edit data management operations. -2 Features HD VTR-like user interface For ease of use by users familiar with HD VTRs such as digital video cassette recorders (HDW), the control panel has a VTR-like layout. The MAV-777 can be handled as a conventional HD VTR, thus introduction is smooth. Multi-port operation Using the control panel, all of the internal ports of the MAV-777 can be operated. Use of 6.4-inch colour liquid crystal display To display precisely and in detail the information of the MAV-777 multiport operation for example, the control panel is equipped with a large (30 x 97 mm), high-resolution (640 x 480 pixels) color liquid crystal display (LCD). The LCD provides a full range of display functions, such as those of the monitor screen, and comes as a user-friendly graphical interface, making operation easier. Operations exploiting the features of a nonlinear device Using this control panel, you can take full advantage of the MAV-777 hard disk capabilities as a nonlinear device. The following operations can be performed. Material data stored in the MAV-777 can be edited immediately, regardless of the actual length of the completed material. Further, modifications can also be made immediately once editing is complete. Multiple material items can be recorded or played back simultaneously. Material can be edited as it is being recorded. Direct input of numeric values Timecode and user bit values can be directly input as numeric values, using the function keys. Chapter Overview - (E)

10 -2 Features Management functions for material This control panel provides material management functions for the material on the MAV-777 (Material mode). In Material mode, the MAV-777 displays lists of material and detailed information on each item, and functions are provided that allow operations such as sorting, renaming, and deleting items of material. Edit using effects When editing in Audio Channel mode, you can use material edited with wipe or dissolve of the Effect Transition feature. Time difference function This function allows you to preset recording, previewing, and playback of material (Timer Rec/Play mode). In Timer Rec/Play mode, in addition to being able to make various Cue Sheet unit settings, you can also sort event lists, delete Cue Sheets, and register templates. Simultaneous playback of two materials This function allows you to set and points, and the playback port of two different pieces of material, such as a material that uses effects and a key signal material. With a single operation, you can load and unload the material and then simultaneously play back the two pieces of material that you have set (Dual Play mode). -2 (E) Chapter Overview

11 -3 Overview of Edit Data Management One of the features of the control panel is its ability to manage multiple edit points, allowing recordings to be modified (through retouch editing) from the control panel. The control panel manages data equivalent to one edit cut as one page. The following are recorded on one page: and points for original edit material (referred to below as source material), and points for edit destination material (referred to below as destination material), and the source material name and page number. SRC. SRC. Source SRC. NAME SRC. SRC. PAGE NO. DST. DST. Destination Edit Data Page DST. DST. A stack of pages for the same destination material is called a program. Page numbers indicate the sequence of edit cuts in the destination material. By tracing the contents of pages according to page number sequence, you can reproduce the contents of the destination material from the beginning. Because one page corresponds to an edit cut in the destination material, the page number and overlap section of edit point data may change after editing. In the following diagram, the source material numbers indicate the editing sequence, but the pages are arranged in the time sequence of the destination material. 3 Source Materials 2 Program (Edit Data Pages) Destination Material SRC. NAME SRC. SRC. PAGE NO. DST. DST. Once editing is complete, you can immediately call up pages for modification. There is no need to play through the entire recording, as is the case with ordinary linear editing. The control panel can only manage one program at a time. A program is effective as long as a page is being created or edited through continuous editing for a single destination material. In other words, if you switch destination materials, the program for the destination material that was being edited is cleared. Chapter Overview -3 (E)

100 5-2 Playback Operations Synchronized Playback Material assigned to two playback ports can be synchronized for playback. On the MAV-777, playback can be synchronized by frame between two playback ports for playback in the normal, variable, and jog playback modes. Therefore the HD VTR, in addition to normally performing simultaneous multiple broadcasting, two signals (a key source signal and key field signal) are registered for each material and broadcast as synchronized signals to the switcher. Notes Before you perform synchronized playback, set menu item 05 SYNCHRONIZE of the MAV-777 Expansion menu to ON. If you require synchronization precision of the order of fields, before you perform synchronized playback, jump to the beginning of the materials and align the frames and then begin playback. During synchronized playback, the maximum jog mode playback speed is ±x normal speed. During synchronized playback, if you switch the timecode display (LTC, TM, etc.) the change affects both ports. When you leave the synchronized playback mode, playback on both ports halts at once. Synchronized playback cannot be used in the Edit mode, and you cannot move from the synchronized playback mode to the Edit mode. Performing synchronized playback Press the PORT SELECT button for the first port that you want to use for synchronized playback (referred to hereafter as Port A ). 2 Load the material for playback and then jump to the point from where you want to playback. 3 Repeat steps and 2 for the second port that you want to use for synchronized playback (hereafter referred to as Port B ). 4 Enter the synchronized playback mode. Hold down the PORT SELECT button for Port A, then press and hold down the PORT SELECT button for Port B for at least two seconds. The indicators of both PORT SELECT buttons light and the unit enters the synchronized playback mode. At this time, material on Port A (the first port selected) is displayed in the current port area of the LCD. To alternate the display between the material on Port A and Port B, press the appropriate PORT SELECT button. 5-6 (E) Chapter 5 Playback

During synchronized playback, you can use jog or variable mode playback. 6 To stop synchronized playback, press the STOP button. 7 To exit synchronized playback mode, simultaneously press both PORT SELECT buttons that are lit. If you press a PORT SELECT button that was not selected for synchronized playback, the unit switches to that port but synchronized playback mode is not canceled. If you press a PORT SELECT button for one of the ports selected for synchronized playback, the unit re-enters synchronized playback mode and the material of the selected button is displayed in the current port area of the LCD Loop Playback You can set playback so that it starts at the beginning of a material, plays back to the end, and restarts playback from the beginning in a continuous loop. Notes Make sure that the material you set for loop playback is at least second long. If the material is shorter than second loop playback may not be executed correctly. Loop playback cannot be executed with material being recorded in loop playback or with material designated as LIVEx in DTR mode. Loop playback cannot be used when the MAV-777 is in BVE mode. Performing loop playback In CP Setup mode, set menu item 0005: Playback Loading Option to Loop. When you select Individual, set CP Setup mode 5007, 5008, 5009: Play Loading Option P (P2 or P3) to LOOP. 2 Load the material and play it back. 103 Chapter 6 Editing 6- Overview of Editing Operations You can use the control panel to edit material on (or being recorded) the MAV-777 or to edit material from an external HD VTR. When editing in Video/Audio mode, use the control panel to handle each Player or Recorder edit points (/) as one edit unit called a page. The MAV-777 uses original data (source data to create a program (without losing or destroying any of the original material) and stores this program as new material (destination material). Notes On the main control panel, internal material created through recording or editing cannot be edited directly as destination material. When you want to edit internal material, use st Edit to create a new destination material and, after you have loaded the internal material that you want to edit as the source material, set the material start and end time data as the various recorder and player and points. Editing is possible once the internal material is assigned as destination page data. Up to 00 pages can be handled in Video/Audio mode. If you want to continue editing after reaching the 00 page limit, use st Edit to save the destination material as the source material as described above. Chapter 6 Editing 6- (E)
