2 Open your browser access the micro:bit website. / this is your one stop shop for all things micro:bit. Spend a few moments exploring the site. Use the drop down menu to access resources to support teachers and students. From this website you are able to access the online coding environments by clicking on the Let s Code link in the drop down menu. In this training we will be using the Javascript Blocks Editor and accessing directly through the link Access this site now and identify the features of the environment Click to open each list of commands in the Toolbox turn Click and drag commands blocks from the basic list to workspace. Right click blocks to duplicate them. Try dragging block next to each other, do they connect? Click and drag blocks back to the toolbox to delete them. Try the undo and redo buttons. Try the view zoom in and out buttons. Right click in the workspace and click Delete <#> Blocks to clear all the commands in the workspace.

3 Downloading code to the micro:bit. Clear the work space of any commands Click the Projects folder and select Examples From the examples Click Blinky The following code will appear in the workspace area and the micro:bit simulator will show a flashing heart. At this point experiment with turning on and off individual LEDs by clicking on them. This will create a different effect in the micro:bit simulator. Connect the USB lead to the micro:bit and connect it to a USB port on the computer being used. A yellow LED on the back of the micro:bit will illuminate when the connection is successful. In the workspace area, give the code a name. Click the purple Download button in the lower left of the MakeCode screen. This will download the file to your computer, to the location where your browser is set to save downloads.

4 To move the program to your micro:bit, drag the downloaded your file name.hex file to the MICROBIT drive, as if you were copying a file to a flash drive. The program will copy over, you can see this happening as the yellow LED will begin flashing. When it stops your code will begin running on the micro:bit immediately. Unplug your micro:bit and attach a battery pack. Your code will run. It is not lost, as when you code the microbit it holds the code until another program is downloaded. The micro:bit will only hold one program at a time. Practice changing the Blinky code and downloading it to the micro:bit.it is good practice not have the battery pack plugged in at the same time as the USB cable. Unplug the battery each time you connect the micro:bit to the computer
