1 Resize and Watermark Images Using Ribbet.com Ribbet.com provides an easy, free service for simple image editing. Ribbet.com is capable of making many different changes to your image, but we focus on re-sizing and copyright marking for now. If you find yourself in need of image re-sizing for our submissions, this is how to do it: 1. Go to 2. Click on the red Edit a Photo button 3. On the next page, click on the red Upload a Photo button 4. Your image will appear in the center of the page. 5. At the bottom of the menu on the left side of the page, click on Resize. Your image dimensions will appear. 6. Make sure the Keep Proportions box is checked. 7. You can now change the size by altering one of the dimension numbers. The DIMENSIONS contain the starting numbers needed to figure out how much to shrink your image by: in the case of the image shown, the dimensions are 1693 x 3005 pixels. 8. Then you ll need to use a calculator to do the following calculations:

2 i. Take the SMALLER of the two numbers and divide it by 300 that will give you the number of inches that will print out clearly and cleanly on the existing image. ii. Divide 1.5 by the number you got in step i) and multiply that number by 100, then round up to the nearest whole number in order to get the percentage value needed make it only 1.5 inches along that short edge. (In this case, it should come out to around x 100 = 26.78, rounded up is 27 that s the percentage you need to put in the box instead of 100). iii. Check off the box underneath the numbers where it says Use Percentages, and then type the number you got in step b) into either of the dimensions boxes note that it will change the other dimension automatically for you. The computer is doing the math, which they are good at if they have the starting numbers. iv. BEFORE YOU LEAVE THIS STEP, uncheck the Use Percentages box and make sure that neither of the two numbers is over the maximum sizes given by the submission requirements if either one is bigger, just highlight that number and change it to the maximum submission size, and the computer will figure out the rest for you ( cause it s good at arithmetic and we don t have time to fiddle around with the calculator all day. And yes, you do need to know how to do these steps for some other web sites where you might be submitting, cause they may not tell you to make it less than x-number of pixels but will only give you inches to work with or a number of megabytes.) In this case, the submission must be under 700 pixels along the biggest side: 9. Once that s taken care of, you ll need to add the copyright notice onto the image to do that, click on the Aa Text button at the top of the screen (black arrow) -

3 to get access to the following toolset: i. Once you re in that screen, click the mouse in the text entry space at the top left hand corner (where I have typed in Margaret Burns on the screenshot above) ii. On a WINDOWS computer, hold down the Alt key and type in the following numbers to make a copyright sign 0169 on a MAC, it s the Option key and 169 OR Option and G (depending on which ios version you are using) instead. iii. Then type in your name, a comma, and the year right after the copyright sign. iv. Make sure you leave the font set to Arial as shown by the arrow and #1 above that is the clearest and easiest to read for this purpose. v. Click the Add button underneath where you typed in the text to make the next boxes (shown by the arrows numbered 2, 3, and 4) appear on the right hand side of the screen. vi. You can choose a colour for the text to match or contrast with the colours in your image in the box shown by arrow #2 just click the mouse on the colour you want in that little square. It will likely never be a PERFECT match, but it will do very nicely by eye for our purposes. vii. Then use the mouse to drag the text showing in the rectangle over your image onto a side or corner of the image. viii. Choose the size of the font with the slider at arrow #3 you can also just click on one of the round white corner buttons on the text box itself and drag the box to the size you want as shown by arrow #4.

4 ix. Wheew. Almost all done.just need to save the image using the Save button at the top of the screen:

5 to get the following screen: where you will want to do the following final checks before saving: i. Confirm that the pixel size is less than or equal to the maximum size for the submission form; ii. Change the file name to something other than the original: I just add SizSignd to the end of it so I know which one to upload; and FINALLY iii. Hit the big red SAVE PHOTO button below arrow #1 and wait for the final screen to show up: 10. Then do it all again for the next image...until you re done!
