1 1. Your animation opens in imovie. 2. To add a title select the Editing view then click Titles. Choose a text colour here. Choose a font here. Move these sliders to change the speed of the animation and the time the title stays on the screen. 3. Choose the style of title you want, here I have chosen a Centred Title and selected Over Black so that the title appears at the start of the film with a black background. Play with the other settings and click Add. 4. I d like to make the title fade into the first scene by adding a transition. The easiest way to do this is by first switching from the timeline view to the clips view by selecting the clip icon. 5. Click the transitions tab. 6. Chose the Cross Dissolve transition and drag it down to a position between the two clips. 1

2 7. Click the Rewind button, then click the Play button to view your animation with its title and transition. 8. To record a voice-over click on the Media tab. Also, switch back to the timeline view by clicking on the clock icon. Playhead 9. Move the playhead (the triangular marker on the timeline) to the place where you want to start recording a voiceover. 10. Click the red Record button. 11. The voiceover is added as an extra track underneath the animation as you record it. Click the Record button again to stop recording Move the playhead back to the start of the voice-over and click play to listen to it back.

3 13. If you are not happy with it, simply click Edit and Undo and try again and again until you get it right. 14. If you want to, you can move a voice-over on the timeline by dragging it. This can be useful when matching the first move of a mouth to the first bit of speech on the voiceover. 15. To delete a voiceover select it, then press the backspace key and it disappears in a puff of smoke. 16. To trim the front part of a voiceover where there may be a bit of silence or unwanted noise, move the playhead to the point where you want to make a cut. The bit you don t want. The bit you want to keep. 17. Click on Edit, then select Split Selected Audio Clip at Playhead The audio clip is now split in two - the bit you don t want, and the bit you want to keep. Click on the bit you don t want so that it is highlighted.

4 19. Now press the backspace key and the highlighted section disappears in a puff of smoke. If you make a mistake don t worry, you can always click on Edit and Undo - then try again! 20. If you find that your voice-overs are a bit quiet you can increase the sensitivity of the microphone. Click on System Preferences at the bottom of the screen. 21. Click on Sound. 22. Move the input slider up or down as you require. The input level meter gives you a visual indication of how well the microphone is recording. You can also select a USB microphone in this view if you have one plugged into your Mac. 23. To add a sound effect to an animation, move the playhead to the place where you want your sound effect to play Click the Media tab and choose a sound effect from the collection. Click Place at Playhead.

5 Saving an Animation and Exporting to idvd and Quick Time 25. The sound effect is added to the timeline. You can also add any sound effect saved on your Mac by dragging it from the folder in which it is saved directly onto the timeline. 26. When your voice-overs are finished, save your project. Before you save your animation to a DVD it is worth taking a screenshot to use in the DVD menu later. Click File and Save Frame. 27. Give the image a name and save it on the desktop to use later. You can view all of the save locations on your Mac by clicking on the arrow to the right of the Save As box. 28. To make a DVD click Share and idvd. 29. Click Share. 30. The animation opens in idvd with its file name displayed on the menu screen. Choose a theme from the collection on the right. 5

6 Saving an Animation and Exporting to idvd and Quick Time 31. Drag the image you saved earlier from the desktop into the Drop Zone. 32. Click on the file name and change it to Play Animation and change the font if you want to. 33. Type a title into the title text box. 34. Put a blank DVD into the DVD drive on the Mac then click File and Burn DVD. In a few minutes your animation will be saved as a DVD with a professional-looking menu to impress your friends! 35. If you want to just save your animation as a movie file to put in a folder on your computer or on a memory stick click Share and select Quick Time To save your animation as good quality movie file click on the two arrows to the right of the Compress movie for box.

7 Saving an Animation and Exporting to idvd and Quick Time 37. Select Expert Settings. 38. Click Share. 39. Choose a place to save your movie, give it a name and click Options. 40. Click Settings. 41. Choose the above recipe for a good quality movie that is compatible with all computers. Choose MPEG 4 Video, Quality High with all other settings set to automatic. Click OK Click Save.
