4 1. Overview The advantage of using the E3DViewer (a PowerPoint plug-in using eta/3d player) is obvious. It enhances the presentation and report with a full 3D animation (e3d file) instead of the MPEG or AVI file. The user can insert e3d file for CAD surface, FEA model and animation into the PPT document. The E3DViewer is developed to launch eta/3d player within the PowerPoint to animate and rotate/pan/zoom the model. The E3DViewer supports Microsoft PowerPoint 2003, 2007, 2010 and The operations on different versions of PowerPoint have a little difference. 2. Install the E3DViewer This procedure is required only for the first time to run the E3DViewer installation. 1. Run E3DViewer_setup.exe as an administrator. 2

5 2. Select a folder for E3DViewer. 3. The E3DViewer will be registered as the PowerPoint plug-in automatically. 3

6 3. Insert e3d file into PowerPoint 3.1 Click the menu Insert -> Objects... PowerPoint 2007/2010 PowerPoint Select E3DViewer from the Object type list. 4

7 3.3 Click OK in the Insert Object dialog box. A blank window frame and an Open dialog box is shown as the following picture. 3.4 Select an e3d file and click Open. The e3d file will be displayed in the window frame. 5

8 4. Play e3d file in PowerPoint document 4.1 Click the Run E3D Player button or select the dropdown menu from E3DViewer. Choose an E3D file Run E3D Player Settings Help 4.2 The E3D Player is invoked, and located on the window frame. It starts to animate automatically. User can also play the e3d file with the pop-up menu as shown in the following picture. 4.3 Close the E3D Player and click the outside of the window frame, and the PowerPoint document will return to the normal view. The user can double click the window frame and then click the Run E3D Player button to invoke the E3D Player again. The user can move or resize the window frame in the normal view. To play the e3d file in the PowerPoint document, select Slide Show (full screen) mode, and a finger icon will be displayed when the cursor is moved in the e3d window frame. Click the left mouse button to launch the E3D player. The E3D Player window displaying the e3d file will appear on the screen. Use any of the play control button to play the animation. There are Part, Option and View drop down menus allowing the user to display the model and manipulate the model. The play buttons are disabled when the e3d file contains only the surface or FEA model information. Click the Close button in the upper right corner to close the E3D player before going to next slide. 5. E3DViewer settings 5.1 Click the 3rd button on the toolbar, a setting dialog box is shown as the following picture. 6

9 6. Set Action for Slide Show 6.1 Move the cursor over the 2D picture and click the right mouse button to select the Action Settings as shown in the following picture. For PowerPoint 2007/2010, select Insert->Action. PowerPoint displays the Action Settings window. Select Object action -> Edit in the Action Settings window as shown in the following picture. 7

10 Note: Since the e3d files are linked to objects in the PowerPoint document, they cannot be moved to other directory after the PowerPoint file is saved. This is similar to the MPEG and AVI files in PPT file. It is recommended to include all the e3d files in the same folder as the PowerPoint file when they are packaged to send to the customer. 7. Replace e3d file in PowerPoint document The e3d file can be easily replaced after it is inserted into the PPT document. Double click the window frame and click the Choose an e3d file button to choose other e3d file. 8. Troubleshooting If you could not find E3DViewer in the Object Type list, you should check if you have logged in with an administrator account, and you could try to register it by the following steps: Login with an administrator account. Go to E3DViewer installation folder. Right click on E3DViewer.exe, and choose Run as administrator on the popup menu. 8
