2 1 COGNOS OFFICE CONNECTION SET UP & CONFIGURATION 1.1 WEB SERVER IIS: Create a new virtual directory within Cognos8 named coc for the following path: D:\apps\cognos8\webcontent\coc This directory must have read, run and browse access permissions File custom properties Add the following custom properties to the following files on the web server: <install path>\cognos\c8\webcontent\coc\cognosofficeconnection.xlt _Assembly ExcelSmartClient <install path>\cognos\c8\webcontent\coc\cognosofficeconnection.pot CognosOfficeConnection.dot _Assembly WordSmartClient 1.2 CLIENT PC Net Framework Installation If.Net Framework has not been installed, install the following: C:\All Files\Software\Dot NET Framework Version 1.1\dotnetfx.exe C:\All Files\Software\Dot NET Framework Version 1.1\NDP1.1sp1-KB X86.exe Net Framework Configuration 01 May 2007 Page 2 of 7

3 1. From the Start menu traverse to Administrative Tools\Microsoft.NET Framework Configuration. Digital Viper Limited 2. Expand the Runtime Security Policy folder. The three available security layers are Enterprise, Machine and User. As this install will access the location of ExcelSmartClient.dll via URL, the security will need to be added at the Machine level. 3. Right-Click on the All_Code group and then select New. 4. the Code Group Cognos Office Connection - Excel and click Next. 5. From the Choose the condition type for this code group drop down menu select Strong. 6. Select the Import button and browse to 7. Once the Public Key has been automatically updated as in the screen below, select the Next button. 01 May 2007 Page 3 of 7

4 8. Set the permission set to full trust and select Next. 9. Then select Finish to commit the new Code group. 10. Repeat the above steps and create a new code group called Cognos Connection - Word for the Installing the.net Programmability Support 1. From the Start menu traverse to Control Panel\Add Remove Programs. 2. Locate and highlight the Microsoft Office Edition in the list. Select the Change button. 3. Leave the selection Add or Remove Features and select Next to proceed to the following screen: 01 May 2007 Page 4 of 7

5 4. Select the Choose advanced customization of applications check box. This will change the Update button to a Next button. Click Next. 5. Expand Microsoft Office Excel and click on the.net Programmability Support. 6. From the drop down list select Run from My Computer. 01 May 2007 Page 5 of 7

6 7. Repeat the above steps for Microsoft Office Power Point and Microsoft Office Word. 8. Once all three have been completed select the Update button to start the install. This will prompt you for the Microsoft Office install media Installing the COC OFFICE Add-In To initiate the install double click either of the following depending upon the MS Office version: NB. The COC COM Add-In shipped with MR2 is different than the one the comes with MR1. In order for the MR2 Cognos Office Connection to work properly, any previous install of the MR1 COM Add-In will need to be removed. 1.3 TEMPLATE SET UP Templates may be set up in private or shared locations. At least one template for application should be created. Create a new PowerPoint document; save it with the following custom properties: Create a new Excel template or spreadsheet; save it with the following custom properties: _Assembly ExcelSmartClient Create a new Word document; save it with the following custom properties: _Assembly WordSmartClient Restart the client PC. When these templates are next opened the Cognos Connection software will be invoked and a connection made to the Cognos Connection public folders page. 01 May 2007 Page 6 of 7
