4 Preparing for Installation These instructions are intended to be used when you are installing QB Manager for the first time. There are explicit instructions for upgrade scenarios. Upgrades from existing versions of QB Manager will be accompanied by their own upgrade instructions, which can be downloaded from the QB Manager downloads page on the client portal. 1. Ensure you have sufficient rights to install software to your local workstation 2. Create a directory on your server with read/write access for all users called QB installer or some other name that you will easily remember, and copy the files QBinst2-x-x.msi (where x-x is the version number) and dotnetfx.exe to this directory from the web download or from the supplied CD. (NB: Do not run the installations from the CD) 3. Download the correct files from the QB Manager web-site into this directory: a. QB Manager installer file (QBInst2-x-x.msi) where 2-x-x is the version number. This is a required download 4. Download from the Microsoft website: a. Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (dotnetfx.exe). This is only required if you don t have any.net version installed OR you currently have.net framework 1.1 (see appendix for how to determine your version of.net Framework). 5. IMPORTANT: Close all other programs currently running, including . Now continue to the installation instructions on the next page. 4

5 Installing on the workstation Installation is required on each workstation that wishes to use QB Manager. Two (2) installation steps are required (assuming the.net framework3.5 is not previously installed on your workstation). Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 Install Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 on your workstation (refer to software requirements for download links), or reference the Microsoft website: QB Manager This is required for every workstation that is using QB Manager. Browse using Windows Explorer back to the same QB Installer directory as dotnetfx.exe, and install the QBInst2-x-x.msi file (where 2-x-x is the version number) as follows:- 1. Double-click the file to install. 2. Follow all prompts. Server.ini At time of installation, a server.ini is created in the installer location, for example: D:\Apps\QBManager\ The server.ini contains reference to licence details and configured paths to installations of Quicken. When a client installation is performed, information from the server.ini is copied down to the users QBManager.ini. QBManager.ini When a client install is performed, a user s QBManager.ini is created in the users profile, for example: C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application Data\DocsCorp Or for roaming profiles in: C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\BP\pdfDocs\Config where C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming is the %APPDATA% path. This is your User location of configuration files. 5

6 Microsoft Visual C runtime libraries When you open QB Manager x for the first time, you may be prompted to install Microsoft Visual C runtime libraries. Select Yes to install. Restart your computer if you are prompted at the end of the installation. These files are required to run the new version of QB Manager, if your computer already has these files installed, you will not be prompted to install these files. QB Manager Licensing Details This is not required if you are evaluating QB Manager, or if the licence was already entered on another workstation. This is only required on the first workstation you install on your network. 1. From the workstation just installed open QB Manager from Start - Programs - QB Manager - QB Manager. a. Select the About Tab. Enter your Licensed to name details as well as your License Number and tab to accept the license number. You can now close QB Manager. Note: The remainder of your workstation installations will now pick up the license information automatically during installation. If you have not received your licence details via yet, please contact DocsCorp Support at support@docscorp.com. At this point in time, they cannot be interpreted by QBManager. You will be presented with a message indicating the need to open files of this type from within your new QuickBooks 2008/09 application. Portable Accountants Copy (.QBM) new for QuickBooks 2008/09: Portable Accountants Copy (X.QBM) files are built in a new format. At this point in time, they cannot be interpreted by QBManager. You will be presented with a message indicating the need to open files of this type from within your new QuickBooks 2008/09 application. Release Notes new features & changes (1-5-0) 1. 1Support for QuickBooks 2007/08 files: The reason for this release is to support the latest version of QuickBooks 2007/08. Release Notes new features & changes (1-4-0) 1. Support for QuickBooks 2006/7 SP2 files: The reason for this release is to support the latest version of QuickBooks 2006/7 with Service Pack 2 (SP2) applied. Prior to this release, some users were experiencing issues when attempting to open QBA files (Accountant s Copy files) once SP2 was applied to QuickBooks 2006/7. The issue resulted in QB Manager opening QBA files as QBW files (QuickBooks company files), meaning any changes made to the QBA by the Accountant were not able to be accepted by their client s. This issue has now been resolved. 2. Worksite integration: Prior to this release, when Worksite users attempted to save a QuickBooks data file into Worksite, the data file would be saved as a PDF, rendering it unusable by QuickBooks. 9 Appendix Determining your Installed.NET version 1. Select Start Menu - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs 2. Look specifically for Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 in the list of programs. 3. If you do not have Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 or have only Microsoft.NET Framework listed you need to download and install Microsoft.NET Framework You do not need to uninstall any other programs including the older versions of.net 5. You can download the latest version of.net Framework from Terminal Server Special Instructions QB Manager and Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 are required to be installed under terminal server/citrix to run QB Manager. Programs for terminal Server are required to be added by an Administrator via the Add new programs option in Control Panel Add/Remove Programs. Please ensure all users are out of terminal server and no other applications are running BEFORE starting the installation. 1. Install Microsoft.NET Framework 3.5 SP1 (refer to software requirements for download links), or reference the Microsoft website: 2. QB Manager: browse to your QB Installer directory for QBInst2-x-x.msi (where 2-x-x is the latest version of QB Manager) and install this application a. NB: You must install QB Manager to a local disk on the terminal server rather than a mapped terminal server drive. 9

10 Environment Variable QBi 2008 saw the introduction of a new method in QB Manager allowing for the retrieval of version metaqba from a QBi ledger file. This was as a result of a new QBabase structure introduced in QBi QB Manager 1.7 and onwards needs to be able to determine the location of the latest installed version of QuickBooks. This provides reference for QB Manager to required files shipped with QuickBooks, namely QBDVer.dll. In most circumstances, the installation of QB Manager will set the required system variable through reference to registry settings laid down by the installation of QuickBooks. If the system variable path has not been configured through the installation of QB Manager, QB Manager may not be able to determine the version of QuickBooks to launch the document through. If this occurs, then please set a system variable pointing through to your latest installation of QuickBooks. To manually set the system variable, launch the Systems Variable window by going to Start > Run and typing in sysdm.cpl. Alternatively, you can get to the System Properties by right clicking on My Computer in Windows Explorer and selecting Properties. From the System Properties window, select the Environmental Variables button on the Advanced tab. Select New Type in the path to your installed location of your latest release of QuickBooks Select OK and close out the System Properties window. 10

If.NET Framework 2.0 is already installed, only the 3.0 and 3.5 components will be required to be downloaded. An internet connection is required for this option.
