3 INTRODUCTION Introduction INSTALLATION In the case of a first install, Caldera V10 has to be installed from the V10 USB flash drive. In the case of an upgrade (from V9 or any other version), Caldera V10 can be installed either from the USB flash drive, or with the software upgrade (CalderaV10.calpatch), downloadable from our usual locations - the second method being preferable. In either case, do not uninstall your previous version of Caldera before upgrading to V10. That's not necessary, and could even cause problems. A V9 (or any other version) install will be upgraded smoothly and transparently. There is no need to rebuild, reconfigure, or re-profile anything after the V10 installation. With the exception of a few minor things, everything will continue working exactly like in the past, once the new license keys are installed (see below). That means that right after the upgrade to V10, Caldera will restart in Demonstration mode. To get your V10 keys, either temporary or permanent depending on the situation, please contact your reseller or our commercial staff. 3

Those average results can be observed with the Intel Core i3, i5, and i7 processors (Apple and PC machines). These enhancements have been done around the screening algorithm, it also means it will affect only halftone modes. Caldera introduces with the V10 a new machine configuration: the Caldera C4 Dynabytes PC, with this specific setup, the performance gain is up to 5 times faster (halftone modes). Benchmarks Results from the RIP of the Caldera technical PDF chart in several configurations: 4

That means it can use the whole amount of available memory (was only 4 GB). This integration allows to: Rip files that used to fail because of a lack of memory (APPE 3.3 allows to use the whole RAM for only one file). Gain about 5% of the time of processing for all files. For the preview only: save significant processing time especially for files including transparency and overlap (we observe an average of x3 but it can be x50 for some files). In proof mode, it is now possible to remap the Spot Colors to the final color space (printer profile). Previously you were only able to remap them to the simulation profile. 5

6 NEW INTERFACE The interface has been totally restyled to meet modernity expectations from our users. Among these benefits, we can point the following elements: The modernity and the simplicity brings youth and dynamism to the interface. This new design allows us to focus solely on the main thing: the current tasks. Applications have a standardized design especially regarding the icons. The global look of the interface is following today s imaging software s trend like the Adobe suite for example. The typo used is both more modern and more readable than the old one. All these changes bring more character to the software and take into account modern knowledge about the use of the computers and their impact on the user (black is less tiring for the eyes for example). 6

7 QUICKPRINT Simpler than the Caldera workflow this new feature allows user to push a job to print directly using a print preset configuration. Available wherever a specific workflow can be selected: Image bar FileMan Hotfolders The user can bookmark up to 10 QuickPrint configurations to access them quickly. Replaces workflow easily for simple configurations 7

8 QR CODES This functionality enables users to add QR Codes beside the print QR Codes can contain: File name, Page number, Date, Job ID, Cut ID, Printer name, Free text Nexio Customer ID, Nexio Order ID Flow+ Customer ID, Flow+ Order ID Ability to redirect to the MIS Job summary area Cut contour around the QR Code This feature can be used to smoothly automate print production workflow. Print-to-Cut QR Codes The ID assigned to cut file can be now encoded in a QR Codes With Zünd ZCC cut controller, it is now possible to automate fully a Print-to-Cut workflow using a Caldera RIP and a Zünd cutter: the printed QR Code will be automatically scanned by the Zünd ZCC application and the right cutting file will be selected and sent to the cutter. 8

9 TILING+ Tiling+ now supports tiles with different sizes. This helps the user to address new kinds of applications: multi-canvas, wallpaper, vehicle wrapping or other decoration-type applications. The new features are: Split tiles (horizontal or vertical) Merge tiles Disable tiles (not generated, nor printed) 9

10 GROMMETS Grommets can now be inserted in a document from the Print application. It means that users do not need to go to the Tiling+ interface for single print (no tiles) with grommet imposition. TRIMMERS Formerly named Nest-O-Ba, this optional feature changed to accept more than only one trimmer manufacturer devices. The Crest trimmers are now supported with the same level of integration. 10

11 NOTIFICATIONS Caldera V10 can be notified of new available updates or upgrades, it takes into account: Information on new updates (builds, versions) Information on new driver revisions These features require an internet connection. STEP-AND-REPEAT PAGE This new feature enables the user to fill a sheet with the right amount of repetitions (automatically computed). When a roll is selected the same feature is available by specifying a page. This is often required in textile and wallpaper applications. 11

12 PRINT-TO-CUT OPTIMIZATIONS VisualCut & Print modules have a new sorting algorithm to manage cutting. It will choose the optimized path to select the next contour to be cut in order to save time. This lets the user specify the cut order: by image, cut tool or shape. GLOBAL UNITS Units can be now set global. From the user configuration panel, the user will be able to choose which type of units he wants to use: Metric or Imperial. These settings can be overridden for each application if a specific unit type is required. 12

13 VISUALREMOTE VisualRemote is an external application that enables the user to submit and manage jobs remotely. This RIP client application works with the following platforms: Mac OS X 10.7 or above Microsoft Windows 7 or above Apple iphone and ipad devices with ios 7 or above Google Android 4.0 or above PRINTBOARD PrintBoard is an external web based application that enables the user to monitor its print production. This means the user will be able to monitor remotely the RIP from any computer or mobile device capable showing a web page. Formerly available through the VariableDisplay product, it is now available for the Caldera RIP v10. 13
