Interactive Lesson Magic Revealers Magic Revealers - reveal all items located on the middle layer of a flipchart. This is very important to remember. If not then the magic revealers will not work the way you intended. In the following example I have used a magic revealer as an X- ray like machine to study the anatomy of humans. This type of lesson can be duplicate with any topic or content area. The possible uses of this tool are limitless. 1. Go to the resource browser and find a picture for the top layer. (I have chosen a picture of a man in this example). 2. Chose the picture, text or object you wish to place on the middle layer for the grand revelation. Place it in the precise place of your choice in any area the 1st image you chose. (In the above example I have chosen the human digestive system.) 3. 25 PAGE 36 PAGE 25 Interactive Lessons - Fun with Layers Promethean software utilizes layers to achieve interactivity: top layer, middle layer, bottom layer, and the background. By layering objects on different layers, you can hide objects behind other objects. Often to achieve this, you ll need to lock the object on the top layer in place so it doesn t move. In this example above, the magic hat is an image locked on the top layer, and the other images are on the middle layer. If the magic hat wall wasn t locked in place, it would move when you try to click the objects behind it. Now you can pull the other images out of the hat one at a time during the lesson. Changing the Default Tool within Flipcharts If you use flipcharts in ActivInspire, you may notice that when you open the flipchart, it defaults to pen tool. Some teachers find this frustrating since they usually do not want to write on the title page of the flipchart. Changing the default tool to the selector (arrow) may make things easier for you. To do this, follow these steps (see picture below). 1. Click File on the main menu and choose Settings. 2. Choose the Settings tab. 3. Choose Tools on the left menu. 4. Under default tool, pull down the window and choose Select. (Select is the same as the arrow.) 5. Click Done at the bottom of the page. Now when you open a flipchart, the select tool will appear by default instead of the pen tool. Repeat the steps for as many captions as you need. How clever that you can use a text box with a couple of blank spaces to attach the caption.

30 PAGE 30 PAGE 31 How do I use the ActivInspire tools with other applications on your desktop? Interactive Lessons Magic Reveals Using Color to Hide Text Use the Desktop Annotate button to use ActivInspire tools with websites and software applications. When the Desktop Annotate button is selected, a transparent flipchart is created. You can then write, highlight, etc. on top of websites and software programs. To go back to your flipchart, simply click the Desktop Annotate button again. How do I see all of my flipchart pages? Move a page? Delete a page? 1. The Page Browser button allows you to see all of your flipchart pages as thumbnails. 2. You can adjust the thumbnail view by clicking on the slider in the lower right-hand corner of the Page Browser viewing window. 3. To move a page, drag the thumbnail to the desired location in the Page Browser viewing window. Before After 1. Begin by setting your background color. Click the paint bucket Choose the color Click on the blank canvas of your flipchart 2. Insert and image from your resource browser or the internet. 3. Type your answers using the text tool. 4. Select the Pen tool choose the same color you used for your background. 5. Now scribble over your typed answers so they are hidden by annotations. (This gives the visual illusion that there are no answers because the color of your pen annotations matches the same color of your background.) 6. Now when you or your students are ready to reveal the answer simply use the eraser tool to magically erase and reveal your answer.
