1 Text Tricks Text # 1 Fill Text with an image (save as Image_Text_1.jpg) Make sure that the picture is bigger than the text. Open the image you want to put in the text. Click on CTRL+A to select it all. Press Ctrl+C to copy the image to the clipboard. Create a new image (Ctrl+N) and add the text. Large bold text works (it allows you to see the image inside the text). Bazooka s good, or Impact.. Make the text big (no bigger than the photo). Hold Ctrl and click on the text layer on the layers palette to highlight the text. With the text layer selected go to Edit and Paste Special > Paste Into (Shift+I + Ctrl+V). Your image is inside the text, and you can move it (with the Move tool) around inside the text so you can place it exactly where you - 1 -

2 want it. While you still have the image selected, you can also press Ctrl+T to transform the image to any shape and size Now add a drop shadow or change the color of the text, add clipart, etc... Use your imagination and have fun. Do this with 3 texts/pix - 2 -

3 Text in a Circle Text # 2 (save as Circle_Text_1.jpg) Stuck for a slogan? Try this: 1. Since we are going to be using primarily black and white as colors, begin by resetting the colors to their defaults [D] by clicking the icon on the toolbar. Exchange the colors [X] by clicking the icon. 2. Create a New Document [Ctrl+N] (File» New...), and enter 600 (pixels) for both Width and Height. Be sure the Mode is set to RGB Color, and choose Transparent for the canvas color. 3. Fill [Ctrl+Backspace] (Edit» Fill...) the canvas with the current background color (which will be Black as a result of the steps performed in Step 1). 4. Select the Text tool [T] and enter some text make sure it s a phrase, not a word or 2. It ll be a circle. Use whatever font and size you like (this example uses 20 (points) Arial Black (Regular). Position the text vertically, and center it horizontally using the Move icon. Make sure that the text goes from the left of the file across to the right the whole way across. 5. If we apply the Polar filter now, the text will be disproportioned and ugly, so let's scale the text first to - 3 -

4 counteract the effect. Use Free Transform [Ctrl+T] (Edit» Free Transform) to scale the text to approximately twice its default height. 6. Now we can apply Filter» Distort» Polar Coordinates... (using the Rectangular to Polar option). When prompted about rendering the text layer, click OK to accept (after you double-check your spelling ;-). 7. 7 Rainbow Edges Text # 4 (save as Rainbow_Edges_1.jpg) This tutorial will teach you how to create an effect that can be either bold or subtle depending on your color choices. Don t feel that you have to follow the color requirements choose your own rainbow. 1. In Photoshop, select File/New, and create a file 2.5 wide x 1.5 high, transparent. Using the Rectangular Marquee tool, create a rectangular selection. 2. From the menu bar, Select > Modify >Feather with a radius of 1 pixel. Fill this with a pale violet. 3. Then change the foreground color to a red violet, and select Edit/Stroke, with a Width of 6 pixels, and a Location of Outside. The result will look like the image to the right: 4. Set the foreground color to a pale yellow orange, and select Edit/Stroke, with a Width of 3 pixels, and a Location of Outside. 5. Change the foreground color to violet, and select Edit/Stroke, with a Width of 1 pixels, and a Location of Center. 6. Add text and put a rainbow effect around your text: 1. Select Layer/Rasterize/Type. 2. Select the type by Control+clicking the wording on the Layer palette. You should see the "marching ants" indicating a selection. 3. Select/Feather with a radius of 1 pixel

8 4. Change the foreground color to a red violet, and select Edit/Stroke, with a Width of 6 pixels, and a Location of Outside. 5. Change the foreground color to orange, select Edit/Stroke, with a Width of 2 pixels, and a Location of Outside. 6. Change the foreground color to white, and select Edit/Stroke, with a Width of 1 pixels, and a Location of Center. 7. Put some effects on your type, crop to size and save as GIF. Do this for 3 buttons and type change the colors/font - 8 -

9 Do 3 snow effects Snow Edges Text # 5 (save as Snow_1.jpg) Start creating a New Document. Size: 5 x 3 is probably OK. Color Background: AA732A. Then type some text on it. Font: Comic Sans MS, Bold, Size: 120, AA: Smooth, Color: C2C2C2. Layer>Style> Bevel & Emboss and set these settings: Layer>Style> Stroke and set these settings: - 9 -

10 Black Now you have something like this: Create a New Layer (Layer>New Layer), Layer>Style> Inner glow and set these settings:

11 Layer>Style> Bevel & Emboss and set these settings: Next, create a new layer, Grab Brush Tool and use a 6-10 px Hard brush to draw the snow. Make sure you have white foreground color. There you have, the Snow Text Effect. I also added a little shadow, but this isn t required. Then insert a few pictures to spiffy it up. Try Google clipart, but you can use anything as long as they re transparent. Use the magic eraser to remove the white background. Do 3 snow effects
