CI Serve Overview CI Serve takes the look and feel of Point of Sale to a whole new level by introducing Swipe or gesture technology to the Point of Sale marketplace. Many users are now accustomed to swiping their smartphone or IPad to view extended pages and this same concept is available in CI Serve. By being able to page to another screen means that many more products can be viewed on one layer avoiding having to drill down through multiple layers. Of course the traditional method of drill down through menu layers is still provided for with no limitation on the levels that you can drill to. Also pop-up screens may be designed to add another selection level. Built using the very latest Microsoft Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) language CI Serve has been designed to deliver a fast and highly responsive interface even in the most intense graphic button presentation. Microsoft WPF is designed to render images to screen exceptionally fast and overcomes the time old problem with touch technology where there is a time lag when screens are refreshed. The screen layout of CI Serve will dynamically resize to suit the size and characteristics of the screen it is running on or optionally the user may resize it to their own particular needs. CI Serve has been designed from the ground up to provide infinite flexibility in the layout of the screens, the grids, the buttons and the functionality. This design functionality is available in the full version of the software which includes the Designer module. A series of standard layouts and skins are available to suit most retail situations. You may then personalize your products to the layout. Beyond this you may either have your dealer design a personalised screen layout or indeed purchase the clip-on Layout Designer. A full customer side display allows the customer to view the sales lines as they are being entered together with an image of the product. Promotional or entertaining videos may be loaded in a default location and run unattended throughout the day. Versions of CI Serve 4
CI Serve One CI Serve-One is designed for the retail situation where stock control is not required or appropriate. Rather this retailer is looking for a high speed method of accurately processing sales of product which may be a combination of using the touch screen and scanning barcoded items. Typical situations might be a green grocer, delicatessen, bakery, dairy etc. The Serve-One system will be delivered with a file of 1,000 PLU s preloaded with the products and images appropriate for your retail type. The code, description, barcode, price and image of these products may be changed to suit your particular or changing needs. If you prefer to have a customised solution then you can maintain products in a spread sheet and import them into Serve (refer Appendix B). A Reporting facility allows a sales report to be produced for any nominated period. CI Serve - Two This is the more advanced version of CI Serve and is designed to communicate with the Counter Intelligence Office software where full stock control and retail reporting is available. For those users wishing to design their own keyboard layouts the CI Serve Designer software can be purchased as a separate module to allow complete freedom in screen design. 5
Using CI Serve Start the application from the desktop icon. Now key your login code to gain access to CI Serve. Your default layout will now appear: Simply press the appropriate button to sell a product. Depending on the design of your screen you can drill through multiple screen layers. Alternatively if your system is setup to Page then you may swipe the screen to extend the view of the current layout. If you wish to scan a product then scan the barcode and the product will display. If you wish to enter multiple quantities you can key the Quantity, hit the * button and then either scan the barcode, press the button or key the PLU. If you know the PLU number of a product then you may key it on the keypad and the product will display. If you are uncertain of the product code you may press the Search Stock button and you will then have the option to search by description code or group. As you key characters the system will constantly refresh the screen with the stock that nearest meets your criteria. The text you are searching for may exist anywhere within the particular field you are searching. 6

Any of the headings can be clicked on to re-sort the list according to your needs. From the Button Screen you can select the button size eg double size, the font, the font colour, the background colour, the image and if you wish to display the product description over the button/image as shown in the short black image above. Once you have created a button that you are happy with you may choose to use this as the master for the remaining buttons. The following options allow this: Relocate highlight the button and drag it to a new location Copy Style Only copy just the style to another button (colour, font etc) Dynamic Resizing allows the buttons to be dynamically resized Use Gestures allow gestures (finger swipe) to be used on this button Multi Layer Button If you wish to create a button that brings up another screen of buttons then you can do this using by creating a multi-layer button. To do this you first need to create a grid for the pop up screen to use, the name is the grid will be the text that appears on the button on the sale screen. Once the grid is created from the drop down Sub Grid list chose the grid you have created for the button and then click on modify and the buttons can be programed as required. Static Button These are setup in the same way as a multi-layer button and allow a different button grid to be displayed when press; static buttons are always visible on the sale screen. Display Text Button Input text buttons allow the text setup against the button to be entered on the sale screen that will print on the receipt (eg: no milk, extra hot ). Pop-Up Button This is similar to a multi layer button and is setup the same way but instead of replacing the current screen it pop up on top of the current buttons. 21
The Concept of Grids If you have license for the full designer module you may control the complete look and feel of your system. You can define and resize any of the grids and with product grids you may load sub grids or pop-up grids. The screen may be divided into a series of grids which you may choose to position anywhere on the screen provided they don t overlap Grid types are: Main Grid Sub Grids Pop-Up Grids Sale Grid Logo Grid Image Grid. Once created these layouts may be modified using the Main Grid function: By clicking on a grid it will become active and it may then be modified by changing the settings as shown in the box in the left top of the screen. Sometimes this settings screen may overshadow the area you wish to work on. Simply drag it to another part of the screen. The X coordinate is the pixels from the left of the screen and the Y setting is the pixel setting from the top of the screen. These are handy to know so that when you later make a sub-grid you can have the overlay sit in the exact position over the original grid. So too are the columns, rows, width, height, horizontal space and vertical space settings for the same reason. Creating a new layout If you wish to create a completely new layout select Layout, Layout Management. Select Add and then give the layout a name. Choose which you wish to be the current default. You can switch the default layouts at any time. 22
Adding a new Main Grid Select Add Grid and the following option screen will appear. If the screen is completely blank ie this is the very first grid to be created click the mouse or touch the screen in the rectangle represented under the presentation box. Give the grid a name that will be meaningful when you wish to identify it later. Specify the number of columns, rows, grid width, height and number of pages (refers to the number of pages you may wish to swipe across. An orange overlay will appear on the screen to represent the settings you have made. You may move this overlay with the mouse; resize it by dragging the corners or by pinching the corners with your fingers. The relevant fields in the screen shown above will change as you resize the orange overlay (applies when you have Dynamic Resizing checked) Use Gestures If you wish to be able to swipe the screen then turn on gestures. Background This enables you to set the colour for the background for this grid Button Default Colour This enables you to set the default colour of the buttons. This uses a screen as shown under Background above. 23
Button Effect The Button Effect key allows the shape and scheme of the buttons in the grid to be controlled. This first sample shows the settings as square buttons and the selectable shading types. This is the other extreme of the scale where the buttons are oval and the border thick: Dynamic Resizing The dynamic resizing selection allows the grid size and its contents to be dynamically resized ie if the grid is stretched the buttons within it will also stretch of contract to fit the new grid size. Often though you will have determined the ideal button size for the screen you are designing and you may find it easier to leave this option unchecked particularly when you are wishing to have sub-grids overlay in exactly the same position. Creating a sub-grid Where you wish to call a sub-grid then the procedure is to create the sub-grid first: Press the Grids button on the Designer Screen The existing grids will display. To add a new grid select the ADD button. Enter a name for the grid and the number of row, grid width, grid height and number of pages this is if you wish to use the gestures/swipe function and display extended pages for this particular grid. 24
Sale Grid The location and look of the Sales Grid Screen is controlled through the screen below where you may set the font and colour of the text plus the colour of the background. The actual columns that you wish to show in your Logo Grid The Store logo may optionally be shown at any nominated position on the screen. Image Grid The product Image grid may be positioned at any nominated point on the screen: An example of the image grid in the sales screen is shown below. This image will refresh each time a product is scanned. 25
