2 What is RefWorks? an online research management, writing and collaboration tool designed to help researchers to gather, manage, store, and share all types of information generate citations and reference lists.

5 Login First time login sign up for a new account create your own login name and password Login to your account

6 Multiple accounts LOG-IN Use the following information to gain access to your RefWorks account. Be sure to store this information for future reference. If you would like to change the login name and password or update your address, select Update User Info from within the program. Your Subscriber Group Code* = xxxxxxxxx Brian Kottarainen Login Name = kottarainen Brian Kottarainen Login Name = groupkottarainen You may want to create more than just one account. Perhaps one for your own use and one for your research group.

13 RefGrab-It optional feature for capturing bibliographic information from web pages available as a bookmarklet that works with Internet Explorer and Firefox

14 Internet Explorer Users: 1.Enable the Links toolbar in IE by selecting the View menu option, then Toolbars. If Lock the Toolbars is checked, click on it to de-select it. Then, from View, Toolbars click on Links (IE 8 users: click on Favorites Bar). A checkmark will appear next to Links (or Favorites Bar) indicating that this feature is active. The Links toolbar (or Favorites Bar) should now be visible at the top right of your browser (it may appear in a slightly different position). 2.Navigate to and log in to your account. 3.Go to (RefWorks) Tools, RefGrab-It and right-click on the RefGrab-It link in the RefGrab-It Bookmarklet area on the bottom-right of the page. A menu will appear. 4.Select Add to Favorites. You may get a security challenge telling you that you may be adding something that is unsafe. Please say "yes". 5.The Add a Favorite box opens and RefGrab-It should appear in the name box. IE 7 and lower users, click the Create-In button to the right of the name box. 6.The Add a Favorite box expands and you should see the Links folder (IE 8 users, look for Favorites Bar). Click on Links (or Favorites Bar), then click on OK (IE 8 users, click Add). A RefGrab-It button will appear in your Links (or Favorites Bar) area of the IE toolbar. 7.Close your browser and re-open before using RefGrab-It for the first time.

15 Firefox Users: 1.Enable the Links toolbar in Firefox by selecting the View menu option, then Toolbars. Click on Bookmarks Toolbar. A checkmark will appear next to Bookmarks Toolbar indicating that this feature is active. The Bookmarks toolbar should now be visible. 2.Go to Tools (in RefWorks, not the browser tools), RefGrab-It and right-click on RefGrab-It link. A menu will appear. 3.Click on Bookmark This Link. 4.The Add Bookmark box opens and RefGrab-It should appear in the name box. Click the Create-In drop-down to expand the list. Click on Bookmarks Toolbar. A RefGrab-It button will appear in your Bookmarks area of the Firefox toolbar. 5.Drag and drop the RefGrab-It link to your personal toolbar. 6.Close your browser and re-open before using RefGrab-It for the first time.

20 Creating a bibliography or reference list Citing and creating a reference list mark your references (copy-paste the content of the Citation viewer window) in the text save your text click Bibliography and select Format Document select your preferred output style, click select a file and browse for your text file Creating a bibliography Start by making sure all references you need are in the same folder Click Bibliography For a bibliography, open the folder where your references are, select the output style, and select the file type (HTML, Word )
