1 Creating a Dropbox Folder & Category (6/2016) Categories are how you organize your Folders in the Dropbox, if you need a new Category you will create it while you are creating your New Folder. 1. Enter the course s Dropbox tool using the Assessment dropdown menu. You should see two buttons on the top-left of the screen under Dropbox Folders: New Folder and More Actions. Click on the New Folder button. 2. On the Properties tab, you are able to: A. Type the Folder name into the text box; in this example Assignment 1 was used. B. Select the Folder Type, the default is Individual submissions. Select Group Submission Folder if this is for group assignments. Note: You will need to create the group category using the Groups tool first. C. Select the Category from the dropdown menu if it has already been created. If it hasn t been, click the New Category link next to the dropdown menu to create one. A new Dropbox Category window will appear for you to type the category name into. In this example, type Weekly Assignments and click the Save button. D. Associate this Folder with a Grade Item by selecting one you have already created in Grades from the dropdown menu. Use the New Grade Item link next to the dropdown menu if you need to create a new one. There is an Out Of field to assign a number of points to this Folder. Make sure the number you enter here matches the one on the Grade Item screen.
2 E. Add a Rubric you ve already created or make a new one. You also have the ability to select the Default Scoring Rubric. This is optional, if you add a rubric, your students will see it before they submit their assignment and after you have given them feedback. F. Include Instructions for your students by adding any information your students should know about this Dropbox Folder and assignment. You can include the number of pages needed, acceptable file types, style to be used, etc. G. Add Attached Files, you can include examples or forms your students need to fill out. You should also include any forms in the Content section to make sure your students see them before they complete the assignment. H. Make adjustments to the Submission Options for this Folder. You may need to expand the link to see the options. The default file setting is to allow unlimited submissions. This means that the student can submit multiple files per submission attempt. The other option will only allow one per submission. In this example, we ll keep the default, Unlimited, option selected. I. In the Submissions section, you are able to keep all the submissions, keep only the most recent, or set it so only one submission is allowed. If you use the last option, make sure you let your students know this in the instructions section above. In this example, we ll keep the default, All submissions are kept, option selected. J. You have a few saving options; you can select the one that fits your needs the best. In this example, click the Save button to save your information but stay on the screen. K. Select the Restrictions tab to be able to set the availability for this Dropbox Folder. 3. On the Restrictions tab, you are able to: A. Select the Has Start Date check box and select the day and time you want the Dropbox Folder to open on. The system will automatically use the current date and time. Use the Now button if you have copied this Folder from a previous offering. B. Select the Has Due Date check box and select the day and time you want the Dropbox Folder to be due on. The system will automatically set it a week from today. Use the Now button and then advance it to the current date if you have copied this Folder from a previous offering. The Due date will appear in the Calendar widget on the Course Home page as a reminder for your students. C. Select the Has End Date check box and select the day and time you want the Dropbox Folder to close on. The system will automatically set it a week from today but we want to allow for late submissions. That way we won t have to have a separate Folder for late submissions. Note: if you leave this unchecked, your students will have until the course closes at the end of the semester to submit late work. The system will show how many days it was
3 submitted after the Due date so you ll know how late the assignment was. D. Attach Release Conditions if you want this Dropbox Folder to open after a student does another action in the course. In this example, we won t add any Release Conditions. E. Add Special Access if you have a student who didn t submit their file before the End Date passed. In this example, we won t be giving any special access. F. You have a few saving options; you can select the one that fits your needs the best. In this example, click the Save button to save your information but stay on the screen. G. Select the Objectives tab to be able to set the availability for this Dropbox Folder. 4. On the Objectives tab, you are able to associate learning objectives to this Dropbox Folder. A. If you have created a Learning Objective in the Competencies area, you will be able to associate it with this Folder. In this example, we won t be associating a Learning Objective. B. Select the Turnitin tab to enable the Turnitin (Originality Checking) and GradeMark features for this Folder. 5. On the Turnitin tab, you are able to: A. Select Enable Turnitin for this folder check box to check for originality. For more information on Originality Checking and GradeMark Reports, see our Using Learn@ UWSuperior and Turnitin Together quick guide. B. Once you select the Enable Turnitin check box, the More Options in Turnitin button will become available. This where you can set parameters for the report. Note: You will need to expand the Optional settings area to see all of the options available to you.
4 i. Originality Report generation and resubmission (red box) is set not to allow resubmissions by default. If you want your students to resubmit their papers with their corrections, you will want to change this to Generate reports immediately (resubmissions are allowed until due date). ii. Allow students to view Originality Reports (orange box) is No by default. If you want your students to see any mistakes they ve made, you will need to change this to Yes. iii. Add PeerMark assignments (yellow box) is No by default. If you want your students to be able to review their classmates work, you will need to change this to Yes. Note: This is a new feature included in our Turnitin account. iv. Attach a rubric to this assignment (green box) This will not attach a rubric you made in Learn@UWSuperior, you would need to create one in Turnitin to use this feature. If you want to use one you ve created in your course shell, add it on the Dropbox Folder Properties tab instead. v. Enable grammar checking using ETS e-rater technology? (blue box) are set to No. If you want to use the GradeMark feature, you will need to change this to Yes and select which handbook (default is High School), which dictionary the system uses, and what the system should look for (spelling, grammar, usage, mechanics, and style). vi. The Would you like to save these options as your defaults for future assignments? (purple box) option is No by default, if you want to use these settings for all the Dropbox Folders in this course, you will need to select Yes.
5 vii. After you click the Submit button, you may need to use the red X in the upper right corner to close the window and return to your Dropbox Folder creation. C. Select the Allow learners to see Turnitin similarity scores in their dropbox folder check box. This will allow your students to see the originality similarities but not the reports themselves unless you go into the More Options in Turnitin and change Allow students to view Originality Reports to Yes. D. Select to have all of the submissions checked for originality or you can pick individual submissions that you want Turnitin to check. In this example, we will leave the default, Automatic originality checking on all submissions, selected. E. Set the date and time that students are able to see the GradeMark report. F. You have a few saving options; you can select the one that fits your needs the best. In this example, click the Save and Close button because we have finished setting up the Dropbox Folder.After selecting the More Options in Turnitin button, you will see some familiar options, but there are a few new options you should be aware of. 6. After clicking the Save and Close button, repeat these steps to create as many of the folders you need for that category. They should appear on the Folder List as you create them. Note: If you want to delete a folder after you have created it, remember to remove the association with the Grade Item before you do. If the association is left in place, the Grade Item could be orphaned" in the system.
