1 e-submission of Coursework Providing Feedback via Turnitin GradeMark 1. GradeMark Feedback Options In Turnitin GradeMark feedback can be provided using a combination of general/individual comments, comments banks (QuickMarks sets), and via standard marking criteria (rubrics). This guide will highlight how to provide feedback in the following ways: 1. Using predefined comments banks (QuickMark Sets), dragging and dropping them to appropriate points in the student work. 2. Typing individual comments on student work, using either a bubble comment or text comment. 3. Adding general comments and feedback for the entire paper. These comments are not added to the script but appear on the right of screen when the student accesses their feedback. 4. Using a standard marking criteria (rubric) to provide general feedback on a set of pre-defined marking criteria. Rubrics can be used to automatically calculate a grade if required. 2. Using QuickMark Sets Turnitin has a number of predefined QuickMark sets which can be used for annotating student work. Bespoke QuickMark sets can be created for use on individual modules or programmes. For further information on creating QuickMark sets see the guide on Creating QuickMark Sets in Turnitin GradeMark. To annotate coursework using QuickMarks, log into the appropriate Moodle course and click the Turnitin link. Open the Turnitin link and select the pencil icon for the student paper you wish to grade.

2 The Turnitin Document Viewer will open with the GradeMark tab displayed. You can access the Originality report for the submission by selecting the Originality tab. If the set of QuickMark comments you require is not available select the Change QuickMarks Set icon to select the appropriate set. The individual comments for the chosen QuickMark set will be displayed on the right of screen. To add these comments to the submission, click on them and move them to the appropriate location on the submitted work. Alternatively, you can highlight text on the right of screen, using the mouse, and then click on the appropriate comment. The comment will be attached to the highlighted text.

3 Annotating QuickMark Comments You can add additional comments to standard QuickMarks to embellish the feedback provided. Hover over the QuickMark and select Comment. Enter the required comment and select Save. 3. Adding Individual Comments If the QuickMarks do not have appropriate comments, bubble and text comments can be added to a submission to provide individualised feedback. Bubble Comments Select the bubble comment button from the top right of screen and click where you would like the comment to be added on the submission. Add the appropriate text comment and click Save. The comment will contract to a small blue square, hovering over the square will expand the comment. Saving Bubble Comments as QuickMarks If, having created a bubble comment, you think it would be useful to add it to a QuickMark set, it can be added directly into a QuickMark set. Click on the comment you have written and select More Options. The Save as QuickMark option will be displayed. Provide a title for the QuickMark, select the set you would like it to be saved in and click Save.

4 Text Comments Select the text comment button from the top right of screen and click where you would like the comment to be added on the submission. Add the appropriate text comment directly onto the screen. 4. General Comments and Feedback Turnitin GradeMark allows general comments to be added about the paper. Select the View/edit a general comment for this entire paper button at the bottom of screen and type any comments into the box displayed. Once the comments have been added select Save. When a student accesses their feedback, the screen will display the general comments section as a default. 5. Marking Using a Rubric If a rubric is being used, it will need to be created and attached to the Turnitin assignment (for further information see the section entitled Rubrics in Turnitin GradeMark. Once the

5 rubric has been attached to a Turnitin assignment it will be available for all student submissions within the Turnitin link, it does not have to be reattached to every student submission. To view the rubric, select the View/edit rubric scorecard for this paper icon. The chosen rubric will appear on the right of screen. Select the appropriate scales for each criterion. Selecting the scale point will provide detail in the space below as to the information pertaining to that specific criterion and scale point. If a standard rubric has been chosen you can select the Apply rubric percentage to grade button. This will calculate the percentage and add it to the top right of screen. View/edit rubric scorecard for this paper

6 6. Manually Adding a Grade to a Student Submission If you wish to add a grade manually to the student submission this can be done by adding a number into the grade section at the top right of screen. Click on the grade option and add a numerical value.
