1 e-submission of Coursework s In Turnitin GradeMark 1. Introduction to s Within Turnitin GradeMark, rubrics can be created to enable student work to be marked against standard assessment criteria/marking descriptor matrix. Turnitin GradeMark allows the creation of three types of rubric. Type Standard Custom Qualitative Description The standard rubric allows you to select a number or criteria they wish to evaluate and give each criterion a percentage weighting e.g. Knowledge (30%), Understanding (30%), Application (30%) and Referencing (10%) The user then decides on the scale of correctness and the relative value of the criteria e.g. Excellent (4), Good (3), Satisfactory (2), and Poor (1). The rubric can be used to automatically provide a grade, calculating the criteria percentages and chosen scale point. The custom rubric allows you to assign a point value to each criterion and distribute those points across the scale of correctness. Each criterion/scale option can have an individual numerical input. The rubric can be used to automatically provide a grade. The maximum value for the Custom rubric will be the sum of the highest value entered in each of the criteria rows. The qualitative rubric allows users to create a criterion/scale based rubric as above, but not based on any numerical input. Feedback is provided for students, but a separate grade can be added. 2. Creating a In order to create a rubric, you must first create a Turnitin link. For further information see the section entitled Creating a Turnitin Link. Once a Turnitin link has been created, log into the appropriate Moodle course and click the Turnitin link. Select Manager icon on the right

2 The last rubric accessed will open. Click on the menu button top left and select Create new. A blank rubric will be displayed. Enter a name for your rubric in the Enter rubric name here option. Decide on the type of rubric you require (see above for rubric types) and select the appropriate option at the bottom of the rubric. Name Standard Custom Qualitative Add the specific marking criteria/percentage weight to the criteria column (e.g. Knowledge (30%), Understanding(30%), Application(30%) and Referencing (10%)). Selecting the relevant box will enable you to add text to the box. Add the relevant scales of correctness to the scale row (e.g. Excellent (4), Good (3), Satisfactory (2), and Poor (1)). 3 If you need to add additional criteria or scales, select the relevant + icon. You are allowed a maximum of 10 scale columns. Please note: if you are using a standard rubric, the criteria column percentages must add up to 100%. Additional information can be added into each individual square to provide the student with detailed information as to how each criteria should be met at a given scale. Selecting the relevant box will enable you to add text to the box. Once the relevant information has been added select Save to save the rubric. 3. Attaching a to an Assignment

4 Once a rubric has been created, it needs to be attached to an assignment. Return to the inbox and select a student submission by clicking the blue pencil Ensuring you are in the GradeMark tab of Turnitin select the View/edit rubric scorecard for this paper button at the bottom right of screen. Select the Manager icon (spanner) to access the rubrics. Grademark Tab Manager View/edit rubric scorecard for this paper The Manager will open. From the menu (top left of screen) select the appropriate rubric for the assignment.

5 Select the chain icon to attach the rubric to the assignment. The symbol should change and inform you of the assignment it is attached to. Click Close to exit the Manager. The rubric will now be attached to the Turnitin assignment and be available for all submissions in the assignment inbox.

Marking Using a Once the rubric has been attached to a Turnitin assignment it will be available for all student submissions within the Turnitin link, it does not have to be reattached to every student submission. The chosen rubric will appear on the right of screen. Select the appropriate scales for each criterion. Selecting the scale point will provide detail in the space below, pertaining to that specific criterion and scale point. If a standard rubric has been chosen you can select the Apply rubric percentage to grade button. This will calculate the percentages and add it to the top right of screen.

7 5. Exporting and Importing GradeMark s Once a rubric has been created, it can be exported and then imported by another user for use in their Turnitin. Exporting a GradeMark Log into the appropriate Moodle course and click the Turnitin link. Click the Manager icon From the menu (top left of screen) select the rubric you wish to export. Click the export/import icon from the top right of screen and select Export. Depending on your browser an Open file or Save file as dialogue box will open. Save the file to your computer.

8 Once you have saved the rubric it can be made available to other users e.g. via or uploaded to a Turnitin assignment within Moodle. Importing a GradeMark Log into the appropriate Moodle course and click the Turnitin link. Click the Manager icon Click the export/import icon from the top right of screen and select Import. Select Browse and locate the rubric file from your computer (it will have a.rbc suffix). Click Open to select the file and Import to add it into your list of rubrics. Once your import is complete select Close to exit the import screen.
