3 1. Procedure for Upgrading Main-Micom Firmware STEP 1: Copy the respective region & model firmware folder at root location in the USB. Following image shows an example of Novatek-2013 US Hotel Model firmware: The folder image should have the content as shown below: 3

4 STEP 2: Connect the USB drive to the TV s USB port: After connecting USB, go to Support option in Menu. 4

5 Go to Software Update option. 5

6 Then select Update now option. STEP 3: Now on the Update now menu option, press Enter key on Yes of the Samsung remote. TV will start searching the S/W image in the USB drive as shown below. This process may take around 1 minute. 6

7 STEP 4: When image searching finished, TV shows the previous and new Versions of the images and asks for update, as shown below: Select Yes and press ENTER key of the Samsung remote. After that TV will start downloading the image as shown below: 7

8 WARNING: Please do not remove the power cable or USB drive until the completion of software update. After completion of Software Update, TV will restart itself in few seconds. The Main Micom is successfully updated now. The Main Micom can also be updated through Hotel Menu. 8

9 2. Procedure for Upgrading Main-Micom Firmware from Hotel Menu STEP 1: Enter Hospitality Menu (Refer section 4: Procedure for Entering into Hospitality Menu) STEP 2: Go to Service Upgrade Now Select Upgrade Now option and follow the steps 3 and 4 as mentioned in the above section. 9

10 After Step 4, the Main Micom is updated through Hotel Menu. After software update completion, TV restarts. The very first step that we need to follow is to do the Factory Reset. Procedure of the same is as follows: STEP 1: Enter into the Factory / Service menu: TV should be in standby mode. Now for getting into Factory Menu, please follow below mentioned key sequence with Samsung remote: For Europe / Asia / China/ India/ Hong Kong Regions: Key Sequence- Info > Menu > Mute > Power For US / Korea / Brazil Regions: Key Sequence- Mute > 1 > 8 > 2 > Power (Key should be pressed within 2 seconds interval) You will see Factory Menu on TV screen as shown below: 10

11 STEP 2: Select the Option menu and then press ENTER key of the Samsung remote. You will see the following image of second level menu: STEP 3: Select the Factory Reset menu and then press ENTER key of the Samsung remote. You will see the following image: STEP 4: Now at this level, Press ENTER key of the Samsung remote. TV memory reinitializes to its default factory settings and TV goes to standby mode. This completes the Factory Reset operation of the TV. 11

12 3. Procedure for Upgrading Sub-Micom Firmware using DDC STEP 1: Following is the image of the sub-micom Firmware download tool DDC Manager. Connect one side of the DDC manager to the parallel port of the PC using parallel port extension cable and other side of the DDC manager to VGA port of the TV by VGA cable. Set master power (the power coming from the Mains) of the TV to ON, but put the TV in STANDBY state. In STANDBY state, the power LED of the TV glows RED without blinking. Note: New DDC Manger (MTI-2510) shall be used for updating SubMicom in 2013 Models. 12

13 STEP 2: Following image shows the S/W tool to download the sub-micom image. In this tool do the following settings: a. Select top menu as WinISP. b. Select Manufacturer as Weltrend c. Select Device Type as WT61P808 d. Select Communication port as DSUB1(Analog) 13

14 STEP 3: Next click on load file and select the.hex file which need to be programmed. It asks for the path of the file. After selecting the file, it shows Load file Ok. 14

15 STEP 4: Next click on Auto program to program the sub-micom. It will program the submicom and verify the same as well. After completion it shows Program Ok and Verify Ok as shown below. Click OK to close the window. 15

16 4. Procedure for Upgrading Sub-Micom Firmware from Factory Menu STEP 1: Enter into the Factory / Service menu: TV should be in standby mode. Now getting into Factory Menu, please follow below mentioned key sequence with Samsung remote: For Europe / Asia / Hong Kong / India Regions: Key Sequence- Info > Menu > Mute > Power For US / Korea / Brazil Regions: Key Sequence- Mute > 1 > 8 > 2 > Power (Key should be pressed within 2 seconds interval) You will see Factory Menu on TV screen as shown below: 16

17 Go to SVC option. You will see TV screen as shown below: 17

18 STEP 2: Enter the SVC option. Then go to Upgrade option. You will see TV screen as shown below: Enter Upgrade option and goto SUBMICOM UPGRADE. You will see TV screen as shown below: 18

STEP 3: Enter SUBMICOM UPGRADE option. You will see TV screen as shown below: STEP 4: Toggle the submicom upgrade menu option by selecting ENTER key.

19 STEP 3: Enter SUBMICOM UPGRADE option. You will see TV screen as shown below: STEP 4: Toggle the submicom upgrade menu option by selecting ENTER key. After that, submicom upgrade option will change from Ready to Upgrading indicating submicom upgrade is in progress, which usually takes minutes. WARNING: Please do not remove the AC power cable or restart TV until the completion of SUBMICOM upgrade. In case, the SubMicom upgrade failed due to AC Power Cable removal or TV restart, SubMicom Firmware shall be further updated using DDC manger only (Refer section 2: Procedure for Upgrading Sub-Micom Firmware using DDC) 19

Procedure for Upgrading Sub-Micom Firmware through USB Copy the SubMicom Firmware in to USB and follow the same steps as above (refer section 3: Procedure for Upgrading Sub-Micom Firmware from Factory Menu) Note: File name for SubMicom Firmware is case sensitive and shall be For US/Brazil Regions - SubMicomUS.bin For EU/ASIA Regions - SubMicomEU.bin WARNING: Please do not remove the AC power cable or restart TV or remove USB until the completion of SUBMICOM upgrade. In case, the SubMicom upgrade failed due to AC Power Cable removal or TV restart or USB removal, SubMicom Firmware shall be further updated using DDC manger only (Refer section 2: Procedure for Upgrading Sub-Micom Firmware using DDC) 20

6. Procedure for Entering into Hospitality Menu In order to enter Standalone Menu please follow below mentioned key sequence with Samsung remote.

Key Sequence- Mute > 1 > 1 > 9 > Enter (Key should be pressed within 2 seconds interval) You will see standalone menu on TV screen as shown below: 7. Procedure for serial connection between TV and PC 1) Download and install serial communication tool.(putty/crt) 2) Connect PC com port and TV serial port(rjp/exlink) using serial cable. 21

23 You should be able to see the logs like follows. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ On After that putty:press ENTER (please refer below snapshot) 4) Enter mmc update on putty prompt and press enter. Firmware will start updating with following logs-: 23

24 5) Once Firmware is updated logs on putty terminal will come as: 6) After this do TV master reboot (disconnect power and connect again) and switch on the TV. 7) Logs on Putty terminal : 8) Serial Input and Press Enter on terminal: 24

25 9) To update TV Firmware enters update.sh on terminal. 25

27 11) Firmware will be updated and once updation completes TV will reboot automatically with logs: Firmware upgradation is over now. 9. Procedure for cleaning EEPROM Once EEPROM is cleaned, TV Panel Type/Localset/Model/ will be set to None. It s recommended to note down Type/Localset/Model from Factory Menu -> Option before doing EEPROM clean. 1) In TV On state : Press ctrlz on serial terminal. 27

Restart the TV (disconnect power cable and connect again).

28 2) Goto mtd_exe directry by : cd mtd_exe 3) Enter command:./eepromcleaner.sh Once clean is completed,tv terminal will come back to #prompt(shell prompt) 4) Restart the TV (disconnect power cable and connect again). 5) Go to Factory Menu-> Option. Set Type, Localset, S/W Model which were there in TV before EEPROM clean. 6) Factory/service reset. 28

29 10. Procedure for upgrading Production Firmware over Pre-Production sample 1) Copy updatex12 in USB drive. 2) Connect usb to TV USB-port and switch ON the TV. 3) Logs on Putty terminal: 4) Serial Input and ctrl+z on terminal: 29

30 5) To update TV Firmware enter update.sh on terminal. Here Press: ENTER 30

31 6) Logs for updating firmware will look like below. 7) Firmware will be updated and once updation completes TV will reboot automatically with logs: Firmware upgradation is over now. Steps 8~12 are optional and are for chip upgrade, these steps should be tried only when suggested. 8) Switch off the TV(bring TV to standby) 9) Goto Putty terminal and press shift + ~ and with these keys pressed switch on the TV. 31
