3 BEFORE YOU START This hat DVR includes a rechargeable battery that will give you on average about 2 hours of recording time on a single charge. We recommend you charge this unit for about 4-6 hours each time (overnight the first time). It embeds an 8GB memory.video resolution is 1920x1080P at 30fps, and audio is clear and crisp. CHARGING: To charge hat, use the included USB cable. Connect one end to usb port on hat and other to USB port on computer or wall adapter with a USB port (see image below) USB Cable Page 3

4 SETTING TIME STAMP 1. We highly recommend that after charging your unit, set the time stamp feature to ensure that your videos are properly stamped with the correct date and time. 1. Connect hat to computer: USB cable to hat then other end to computer 2. A window will pop up after a few seconds, select OPEN FOLDER TO VIEW FILES. you will either see a DCIM folder or nothing on memory. If for some reason the pop up window does not show up, no worries. Simply fnd hat on computer. Usually as REMOVABLE DISK. Click START >Computer Then click COMPUTER Page 4

5 SETTING TIME STAMP 3. Find REMOVABLE DISK. Note that the removable disk letter may vary on your computer) 4. Next go back to TECH SUPPORT section where you got this user manual and locate time file (TAG.TXT) and save it to this root section, right below DCIM folder. Please do not change file name as your time file will not work. Save time file here After saving here, Double click this file to open text editor. See next page Page 5

6 5. Adjust time to reflect your current date and time. Please maintain format EXACTLY. Just change the number portions. (Changing or moving anything from their present position in anyway will not enable your time stamp to change. (If you feel like you changed it by accident and not sure what it was, simply re-save the file from our website and start over!) EXPLANATION: :20:00 Y 1,2 Where 2015 = year, 04=Month, 22=Day of month 10=HOUR of day, 20=MINUTE, 00=SECONDS Y=YES for time stamp to show on recording (or you can put N to remove time stamp from video recordings. 1,2 = Please leave these numbers untouched 6. After adjusting time, SAVE and close out of editor. 7. At this point we recommend you unplug your unit from computer, then turn it on and record a test file to check that time stamp was properly done. If test file still does not show proper time on test video, then please repeat process. Page 6

7 BEFORE YOU START - TURNING UNIT ON Begin by turning system switch to ON position. You will notice that this will turn on the clock on the monitor. OFF - slide left ON - slide right PHOTO Power ON/OFF MOTION DETECTION RE- CORDING MODE - ON/OFF CONTINUOUS VIDEO RECORDING START/STOP Page 7

8 VIDEO RECORDING Don t forget system switch must be in ON position before starting/using remote controller! 1. Slide remote cover down to expose buttons. Press and hold A button until red indicator light turns on. Release button. Hat will also vibrate continuously for about 2 seconds and stop. You are now in standby mode. PLEASE NOTE: The purpose of the vibrate function is to allow you to know what the hat is doing when it is on your head since you will not be able to see the indicator light at that point. So once you know the types of vibrations, you will know what the hat is up to when you press the buttons on the remote controller! 4. To begin video recording, press (firmly) and release B button. Your hat will vibrate 1 time and stop (if you are looking at the indicator light, it will blink twice and turn off). Your hat is now recording HD video. 4a. If you want to turn on video recording in MOTION DETECTION mode, use the D button instead of the B button. The same vibration and lighting will occur. the only difference is that recording will begin only if there is movement in the camera purview. Otherwise nothing will record. 5. To stop recording, press same B button (or D button if in motion detection mode) on remote once (firmly) and release. Hat will vibrate 2 times. Your recording has now been stopped and saved, and indicator light has returned to steady blue. Page 8

9 PHOTO/PICTURE Don t forget system switch must be in ON position before starting/using remote controller! 1. Slide remote cover down to expose buttons. Press and hold A button until red indicator light turns on. Release button. Hat will also vibrate continuously for about 2 seconds and stop. You are now in standby mode. 2. To take a picture, press (firmly) and release C button. Your hat will vibrate 1 time and stop (if you are looking at the indicator light, it will blink ONCE, turn off then return to steady RED light. 10 RETRIEVING YOUR FILES 2. CONNECT USB CABLE: Connect included USB cable to unit, then to computer USB port. This should allow you to find and open DCIM folder to view and manage files. Please COPY your files to your PC for best playback. IMORTANT: Before connecting to your computer, make sure system switch is in OFF position. Your files may not download if switch is not in OFF position before connecting. Your DVR (drive letter may vary) You may go into the folders noted above to view and copy your files. You may also delete files from these folders. NOTE: Mac users must empty their trash before disconnecting your watch after deleting files. Page 10

11 SUGGESTED SOFTWARE Your Windows PC or Mac has built-in software that will play most of the files created by devices like yours. However, if you are having problems playing your files, or need more options, please download and try these programs. This software is free and can be downloaded directly from the links below. You can find support and tutorials for these programs on their respective websites. SafetyBasement can not provide software support for these programs As with ANY files you download from the internet, be sure to scan them for viruses using your particular virus scanner. While most users report no issues using this software, we can not be responsible for any damage caused by this software. Please proceed carefully. Back up your PC before installing any new software. VIDEO PLAYBACK - VLC ( The VLC Media Player can play almost any video or audio file type. There is a version for Windows and for Mac OS X. VIDEO EDITING for WINDOWS - MOVIE MAKER 2012 ( Movie Maker is a simple video editing program from Microsoft. Please go to this link, and choose the download for your version of Windows. Please note: Movie Maker is part of the Windows Essentials package. VIDEO EDITING for MAC OS X - imovie (Visit the Apple Mac App Store for latest version) imovie is a simple video editing program from Apple. It comes installed with your new Mac. The latest version is also available at the Mac App Store at additional cost. AUDIO PLAYBACK and EDITING - AUDACITY ( Audacity is a popular audio editing program used by amateurs and professionals to edit simple and complex audio projects. You can use Audacity to convert your audio files to another format, such as MP3. There is a version for Windows and Mac OS X. PHOTOS Your Windows and Mac computers have the ability to do basic editing of photos built in. Page 11
