TechNotes Revision 6/6/ Custom Video Tabs Overview: Custom Video tabs are useful for including extended functionality on a camera page. Examples of the uses of Custom Video tabs include setting up a page that shows multiple cameras simultaneously, creating a page with a video image of a gate and a button to open said gate, or creating a customized interface for use with a third party DVR. Required Tools: You will need the following: 1. A system controller with the appropriate apps 2. At least one Video Camera or Video Server Supported User Interfaces: The following User Interfaces support the use of Custom Video Tabs- 1. HomeLogic 8.4 Inwall Touchscreens 2. HomeLogic/ELAN 8.4 Wireless Tablets 3. Profile 700 Inwall Touchscreens 4. PC Viewers 5. TS7 Inwall Touchscreens 6. TS10 Inwall Touchscreens 7. iphone g! Mobile App (Only supported controls- see the Mobile Con Integration note for a list of supported controls) Unsupported User Interfaces: The following User Interfaces do not support Video and are not able to use Custom Video Tabs: 1. TS2 FITs 2. HR2 Handheld Remotes Available Controls: Most g! controls are available for use on a Custom Video tab; We will discuss a few here that are pertinent to the cases presented in our overview. Note that many custom controls will have settings available within their properties windows that will allow you to alter the name, look, style, resolution, and behavior of connected video devices. Video Full Screen Button- Video Full Screen Button can be used to view video from any one of the configured video sources as full screen video on the Viewer interface. This control will add a button that when clicked will show the configured video steam at full screen size. Clicking again anywhere on the screen will return to the Viewer interface. Tech Support: Page 1 of 6
Video Position Control- Video Position Control can be used to adjust pan/tilt/zoom of specific Sony cameras via camera view grid map. Refer to your specific camera integration to see if this control is supported. Video Res. Control- Video Resolution control can be used to create buttons on a custom page to change the resolution of any one of the configured video sources. Video Stream- Video Stream control can be used to insert a video stream from any one of configured video sources. It can be placed and resized on the custom tab as desired. Available settings include border style, and default resolution of the video stream. Video Stream Volume- Video Stream Volume control can be used to create buttons to change the volume of the audio available from a configured video source s audio input. (cameras or servers with integrated audio only) Video Zoom Control- Video Zoom control can be used to create buttons to adjust the zoom level of any one configured video source. (cameras with supported zoom control only) Button (Momentary)- Standard button can be used with Event Maps to send commands when pressed and stop sending commands when released. Typically this is used to control contact closures, shades, or other ramping devices that require momentary control action. Button (Standard)- Standard button can be used with Event Maps to activate various functions. Note that this is a single-action button. Button (Toggle)- Standard toggle button can be used with Event Maps to activate various functions. This button allows for a set of commands to be set when it is activated and second set of commands to be set when it is deactivated. Button (Image)- Variant of Button (Standard) that allows the button to display an image (JPG) from any of the picture files in the Picture share folders. Tech Support: Page 2 of 6
Examples: Example #1- Multi-Camera View Pages: From the Video tab in the Configurator, right click Custom Tabs and select Add New Custom Tab. Give it an appropriate name, such as All Cameras. Select the 800x600 resolution- a blank Custom Tab will be shown on the right. Right click in the blank Custom Tab and select Add New Control. From the list of available controls, select a Video Stream control. This will place a video stream window in your custom tab which may be moved, resized, etc. NOTE: Composite Video Streams and IP Video Streams CAN NOT be used on the same custom tab. In the Video Stream Properties window, use the Connect To: dropdown to select the camera which you would like the stream to show. Note that after the Connect To: option is selected, the aspect ratio of the window is fixed, and resizing the window will change both Height and Width simultaneously. Optionally add a Video Full Screen button below the stream- This control also has a Connect To: dropdown which should be set so that the system knows which stream to make full screen. Additional options may also be added as desired. Note that not all features work with all cameras, be sure to check the integration notes for your cameras to see which features are supported. Add additional Video Streams and other controls as needed. Right click the 800x480 resolution and select Copy Layout from 800x600 to allow your Custom Tab to be viewed on p700, TS7 and TS10 Touchscreens. Do the same for the ipod Portrait and Landscape resolutions. Check the other resolutions and clean up as needed. NOTE: If buttons are used with Event Maps on a custom tab, copying the layout from one resolution to another will copy the buttons, but not the event maps. You must edit the event map to include button press events from all layouts for proper functionality. Tech Support: Page 3 of 6
Example #2- Gate Control For this example, we will create a Custom Tab with a video stream showing a front gate, with a button that the user can press to allow entry. A Momentary Button will be used to engage and disengage a relay that controls the gate. We will assume that you are using one of the built-in relays on an HC controller to unlock the gate. From the Video tab in the Configurator, right click Custom Tabs and select Add New Custom Tab. Give it an appropriate name, such as Front Gate. Right click in your Custom Tab again and select Add New Control. Select Button (Momentary) from the list of available controls. Click on the Momentary Button to bring up the Button (Momentary) Properties window. In the Name field, type the text you would like displayed on the button in the viewer, then close the properties window. Right click the new button and select Create Event Map for: Button Press. The name for the event map is automatically populated based upon the name of the button. You may change it if you like. Click OK. The Edit Event Map window will open. Click Add in the Commands section. Select Outputs from the System Family section. Select the relay you wish to control from the Command Groups section. Select Turn Output On from the Available Commands section. Click OK. Right click the new button and select Create Event Map for: Button Release. The name for the event map is automatically populated based upon the name of the button. You may change it if you like. Click OK. The Edit Event Map window will open. Click Add in the Commands section. Select Outputs from the System Family section. Select the relay you wish to control from the Command Groups section. Select Turn Output Off from the Available Commands section. Click OK. Tech Support: Page 4 of 6
Example #3- Controlling a Third Party DVR For this example, we will be controlling a third party DVR using IR commands. This simple solution will allow you to control most DVRs on the market, provided they have IR or Serial control and an analog video output. A Video Server is needed as well, to provide the Controller an IP Video Stream from the DVR. Connect the analog video out of the DVR to an input on the video server, and attach an IR flasher to the DVR. Learn the commands into Configurator on the Input/Output tab, and then follow the steps below to create the Custom Tab. From the Video tab in the Configurator, right click Custom Tabs and select Add New Custom Tab. Give it an appropriate name, such as DVR. In the Video Stream Properties window, use the Connect To: dropdown to select the video server port to which the DVR is connected. Note that after the Connect To: option is selected, the aspect ratio of the window is fixed, and resizing the window will change both Height and Width simultaneously. Right click in your Custom Tab again and select Add New Control. Select Button (Standard) from the list of available controls. Change the Name field to an appropriate label, such as Camera 1 Place the button where you would like it to be in the viewer. Right click the button and select Create Event Map for: Button Press. Rename the event map if desired. Click OK In the Edit Event Map window, click the Add button next to the Commands section. From the System Family section, select IR Sender. From the Command Groups section, find the IR Command to send the DVR to Camera 1. From the Available Commands section, select Send IR via Default Device. Add additional buttons and event maps as needed for each camera, as well as transport controls for Play, Stop, Pause, etc. Tech Support: Page 5 of 6
NOTE: If buttons are used with Event Maps on a custom tab, copying the layout from one resolution to another will copy the buttons, but not the event maps. You must edit the event map to include button press events from all layouts for proper functionality. Tech Support: Page 6 of 6
