1 Valet AV (Audio/Video) Congratulations on your decision to control your audio and video equipment from your iphone, ipad, Android phone, or tablet using our Valet Home Control app. We are certain you will find Valet AV not only incredibly useful and convenient but also fun! We are here to help: or , OVERVIEW: Valet AV is an upgrade to the Valet Home Control app that provides control of all of the Audio/Video devices spread throughout your home. While it is possible for Valet AV to directly control some networked AV devices, it has been our experience that most manufacturers do not publish enough (if any) of their codes to attain comprehensive control. In practice, the best experience is usually achieved with network adapters that can emit the Infra-Red (IR) signals used to fully control AV devices. Typically, only one adapter such as our GW-IR or WGW-IR is needed for each room that includes Audio/Video equipment. This adapter creates a single IP address on your home's existing WiFi network that can be used to control up to six AV devices using IR. Your AV equipment can be hidden behind cabinet doors and the remotes stored away. By adding an IR receiving eye to the GW-IR or WGW-IR, you also have the option of controlling your hidden equipment with their original IR remotes. USING YOUR HOME S WIFI NETWORK: The GW-IR and WGW-IR gateways use your home s existing WiFi network to accept commands from your smart phones and tablets (up to 8 simultaneously). Your WiFi network does not have to be connected to the internet for the gateways to work. However, you will need an internet connection anytime you want to update the app, sync custom changes, or backup and restore your configuration. Getting started is as easy as, 2,... STEP : Connect the gateway(s) to your home network. STEP 2: Set up the Valet Home Control app. STEP : Attach the IR emitters and begin using Valet AV STEP : Connect the Gateway(s), model GW-IR and WGW-IR, to your home network. Connect each gateway to your home network, making note of the MAC address printed on the bottom. GW-IR: Use an Ethernet cable to connect the GW-IR to your home s router. WGW-IR: Follow the instructions in the Addendum to this document titled Attaching your WGW-IR wirelessly to your home s WiFi router. 2. Make sure the power adapter is connected to the gateway and plugged into an electrical outlet.

2 . Use a network observation app such as FING (downloadable from both app stores) to identify the IP address that was assigned to each gateway. BEST PRACTICE: If your router will allow, it is always a good idea to reserve an IP address for each gateway. Doing so will ensure the IP address will not change, even if the router experiences a power failure or other event that causes IP addresses to be reassigned. Our Valet support reps are happy to assist you with this as necessary. NOTE: At this point it is okay to plug the emitters into the channels/ports on the gateway but DO NOT yet attach the emitters to the AV devices. 4. Keep track of the following information for each gateway: GATEWAY LOCATION Living Room MAC ADDRESS A4:4F:29:00:00:00 IP ADDRESS Channel AV Device Samsung TV, DirecTV 2 Sony Receiver, DirecTV Pioneer Blu-ray STEP 2: Set Up the Valet Home Control App... IMPORTANT: If you are already using Valet Home Control with an HTD Whole House Audio System, please update to the latest version of the app but DO NOT RESTORE FROM A PREVIOUSLY BACKED UP CONFIGURATION until you have completed the setup for Valet AV.... on an APPLE device. Download or update the Valet Home Control app from the App Store and open it. 2. If this is your first time to use the app, on the Settings page, enter your Username and Password, then press Sync.. Tap on the Sync icon. Under SELECT HANDSET TO SYNC WITH, click on AV iphone or AV ipad*. When you receive the message Sync completed successfully, if prompted, press No. 4. Tap on the Gateways icon and select Edit. Scroll to HTD IR. Here you should find the gateway(s) that you attached to your network. Select a gateway. 5. On the next page, edit the name of the gateway to include its physical location (e.g. GW-IR becomes GW- IR Living Room or GW-IR Master Bed, etc.). 6. Select a channel (, 2, or ) to assign a device to the gateway. Tap on Add device and choose the device from the scroll wheel, then press the + symbol. (NOTE: to add additional devices to that channel, press Add device again). 7. If you need to add devices to other channels, press on the gateway name and repeat step 6 for that channel. 8. Once you have assigned all of your devices to their proper channels press Panels and then Main to exit setup and begin using the Valet Home Control app!... on an ANDROID device. Download or update the Valet Home Control app from the Google Play Store and open it. 2. If this is your first time to use the app, on the Settings page, enter your Username and Password, then press Sync.. Under HANDSETS on the Sync with Builder page, click on AV Phone or AV Tablet*. When you receive the message Sync completed successfully, if prompted, press No.

Tap on the menu button located in the upper right hand corner, then Gateways, next tap on HTD Gateways and your gateway should be displayed under Auto Discovered, choose your WGW-IR or GW- IR. 5. On the next page you ll change to name of the gateway to its physical location (e.g. Living room, Master, etc ). 6. Choose a channel to add devices that you made note of in Step tap on the plus symbol and choose the device from the device list. (to add additional devices to that channel press and add device) 7. If you need to add devices to other channels, press on the menu button in the upper right hand corner then press Gateways. 8. Once you have assigned all of your devices into their proper channels press the menu button in the upper right hand corner, then press Panels and then Main to exit setup and begin using the Valet Home Control app! * If you do not see AV iphone, AV ipad, AV Phone, or AV Tablet as an option, then we have not completed the custom programming for your Valet Home Control account. Please contact us at (press 2), or send an to valet@htd.com. STEP : Attach the IR emitters and begin using Valet AV. Connect the dual IR emitters (provided with the gateway) to the IR OUT ports on the gateway. Note that each dual IR emitter can flash signals to two unique devices. If you need to control two or three identical devices, make sure each one uses an emitter plugged into a unique IR OUT channel number (, 2, or ). 2. Attach the emitters to your AV devices but not until you are certain of the location of the IR receiving eye built into each device. Note that the owner s manual for each device may or may not identify the eye s location. BEST PRACTICE: Remove the protective film from the bottom of the emitter but DO NOT IMMEDIATELY ATTACH it to the device. First, hold the emitter about a half inch from the device and, while pressing the power button for that device within the Valet App, slowly move the emitter around until you find the most reliable position. Stick the emitter to that position. (Should you determine that the emitter was not stuck to the optimal location, the emitter can be removed and repositioned by slowly and carefully peeling it back from the surface of the device DO NOT REMOVE THE EMITTER BY PULLING ON ITS CABLE.). Assuming everything is properly connected and configured, you are ready to use the Valet AV Home Control app. You will find the app to be very intuitive and will likely learn by using the app. But we also offer a video on our website showing an example of Valet AV in action. Setting up the app for additional phones and tablets Once Valet AV has been successfully set up on one smart device, you can back up the gateway settings to the cloud. This makes setting up the next phone or tablet super easy. Here are the steps: From the Settings Menu, select General Settings and then click on Gateway Setup. Near the bottom of the screen, select the Sync tab and press Backup Configuration. You ll be asked to confirm that the settings on that phone/tablet are in fact the settings you want saved to the cloud. Select YES. When setting up additional phones/tablets select Restore Configuration. PLEASE NOTE: Valet AV is optimized for a single screen resolution which may, or may not, work when restored to a different screen size. 4 Addendum: Attaching your WGW-IR wirelessly to your home s WiFi router Unlike model GW-IR which connects to your home network with an Ethernet cable, the WGW-IR connects to your network wirelessly. The WGW-IR will broadcast its own unsecured WiFi network until you adjust its settings to attach it to your existing WiFi network:. After you have attached the antenna, plug the WGW-IR into an electrical outlet. 2. Use a computer, smart phone or tablet to search for available W-Fi networks. Select the network labeled WGW-IR and press the Connect button.. Once connected, open a web browser and enter as a website address. A pop-up window will appear requesting the username and password. Enter admin in both fields and log in. 4. You should now be viewing the WGW-IR configuration pages. If you haven t written it down already, make note of the MAC address (will begin with A4F4... ). Tap on WiFi settings. 5. From the WiFi Work Mode drop-down menu, select STA mode. 6. On the same page, under STA Mode, tap on the search button. From the list of available wireless networks, select the one you want to attach to and click OK. Note, if you have an SSID with multiple Access Points (AP), select the AP that is closest to the location where you will ultimately place the gateway. 7. Under STA Mode, type your WiFi password for your network into the STA Password field. Press Save. 8. Click on the Restart button. This will cause the WGW-IR to reboot with the new settings. 9. Wait about 60 seconds and then close the browser window (even though it may still display Rebooting ). 0. The WGW-IR should now be attached to your W-Fi network. It is okay to unplug the WGW-IR and relocate it to the room with the AV equipment. The settings are maintained so that the next time power is restored, it should automatically reconnect to your W-Fi network (as long as it is still within range of your WiFi signal). Addendum: Adding an IR receiving eye You can optionally add an IR receiving eye (sold separately) to allow for control of your AV devices from their original IR remotes. This is often helpful when your AV equipment is hidden from view, such as in a closet or cabinet. HTD offers several compatible IR eye models on our website: IR-RX2-, IR-RX2-IW, and IR-RX2-T. These models include a cable with three conductors that connect to the green phoenix-style connector on the gateway. Use a small flat-head screwdriver to attach the wires to IR (IR signal), G (ground), and V+ (voltage).
