5 1 GENERAL INFORMATION 1.1 INTRODUCTION The purpose of this document is to help user to get the VK5100-imx6 Development Platform up and running in short period of time. This guide covers the overview of development platform connectors, connecting the development platform to a PC and initial operation with the supplied boot devices. 1.2 PACKAGE CONTENTS 1. 8 2 SETTING UP: BASICS 2.1 SWITCH SW5 SETTING Make sure Boot S/W (SW5) is flipped to left hand side to select boot from emmc. Boot S/W (SW5) Figure 2-1: Flip the Boot S/W (SW5) to the left to boot from emmc 2.2 CABLE CONNECTIONS Connect 3-pin header to DB-9 Serial Debug Cable Connect 3-pin header of Serial Debug Cable into debug port (refer to Figure 1-1). Connect the other end (DB-9) of the Serial Debug Cable to a PC acting as a host terminal. Connect User Interface Devices (Optional) To interact with the Android operating system displayed on the monitor it may be desirable to attach a keyboard and/or a mouse. Connect the keyboard and/or mouse to USB Host1 port (refer to Figure 1-3). Connect Ethernet Cable Connect an Ethernet cable to the Ethernet jack (refer to Figure 1-2). 9 Connect Power Supply Connect the 5VDC output of the power adaptor to the DC power jack (refer to Figure 1-2). Connect the power adaptor to an external 110VAC ~ 240VAC power source. When power is connected to the smart device, it will automatically begin the boot sequence. 2.3 HYPER TERMINAL SETTINGS In order to send commands and receive debug messages from the development system, a terminal application like Hyper Terminal is required. Tera Term is another open-source, free, software implemented, terminal emulator (communications) program that serves similar purpose. The following settings are used to establish the link between the PC and the VK5100-IMX6 development system: Baud Rate: Data: 8 bit Stop bit: 1 Parity: None Flow Control: None 2.4 BOOT PROCESS FOR ANDROID IMAGE 1. During the boot process, there will be operating system boot status information scrolling on the PC s terminal window. 2. When the boot process is complete, the Android unlock screen will be displayed on the development platform LCD display. 3. Unlock the screen and the Android desktop will appear. 4. To work from the terminal window on the host PC, press enter at the terminal window to get the command prompt. Page 9 APC Proprietary Information February 7, 2017

10 3 BUTTONS FUNCTIONS Item RESET BUTTON (SW1) POWER BUTTON (SW2) Description Momentary depress of button will reset the system and begin a boot sequence. Momentary depress of button will place the system in standby. VOLUME UP BUTTON (SW3) Volume + VOLUME DOWN BUTTON (SW4) Volume - Table 3-1: Buttons Functions Long press of the button will display a software drive shutdown option menu. Prolonged depress (> 5 sec) will force an immediate hardware shutdown. If board is in the OFF state, momentary depress of button will restart (boot) the system. If board is in the STANDBY state, momentary depress of the button will bring the system out of standby (resume operations, no boot) Page 10 APC Proprietary Information February 7, 2017

In the event that no agreement has been concluded, APC s terms and conditions of supply will apply. Testing and other quality control techniques are used to the extent that APC deems necessary to support its warranty. Except where required by law, specific testing of all parameters of each Product is not necessarily performed. Purchaser must provide adequate design and operating safeguards to minimize inherent or procedural and technical risks associated with Purchaser products and applications. Purchaser is solely responsible for its selection and use of APC Products. APC assumes no liability for applications assistance, Purchaser product design or any incompatibility of the Product with Purchaser product. Products supplied by APC are not designed, intended or authorized for use in life support, life sustaining, medical systems or devices, aircraft navigation, nuclear, or other applications, including, but not limited to, public transportation operating systems, in which the failure of such Products could reasonably be expected to result in personal injury, loss of life or severe property or environmental damage. Purchaser acknowledges that use of APC s Products in such product applications is understood to be fully at the risk of Purchaser and that Purchaser is responsible for verification and validation of the suitability of APC s Products in such applications. Purchaser agrees that APC is not and shall not be liable, in whole or in part, for any claim or damage arising from use in such applications. Purchaser agrees to indemnify, defend and hold APC harmless from and against any and all claims, damages, losses, costs, expenses and liabilities arising out of or in connection with any such use or application. APC retains all rights to all proprietary intellectual property in the Products and associated manufacturing processes and has the right to file for and obtain intellectual property protection for same.
