1 Announcing A4GL and VDC version 2 The VDC 2 is now available. What can you expect? The new VDC is based on the newest and best GUI technology on the Market (Qt 5). Keep the power of your application providing the beauty your customers are expecting. Develop once, deploy everywhere The VDC is already running on Windows, Mac OS and Linux. In Version 2 we implemented a lot new Functions and increased the stability. In addition to this we are offering the cost free VDC.mobile, which allows you to run a A4GL module also on Android, IOS and later also in Win-RT. We are not offering the VDC on Blackberry of embedded devices in the cost free standard. If you need it, please contact us.

2 The new VDC.mobile The VDC 2 and A4GL are offering complete new possibilities for developers to fit users needs. A4GL, as a solid rapid development language, allows a fast development of Applications and you can much sooner deliver it on mobile devices than using normal App development tools. This velocity results from the ability of the VDC.mobile to allow the deployment of an A4GL module on smartphones and tablets, having only to adapt the size of your forms to look adequate. The user can get any module, he is accustomed to work with, also on mobile devices. So instead of programming an App beginning from zero the VDC.mobile just ports your A4GL application for you. So you can truly develop once and deploy many. Modules have the same look and feel than on the Desktop so users are able to use their modules

3 immediately. Using style sheets you can change the look an feel. The VDC.mobile is designed for stability. An interruption of the network connection does not leads to a crash, for example. Also the communication between the mobile devices and the server is encrypted. The VDC.mobile is free You can download it from Google Play or Apple Store without cost. An easy registration procedure allows us to know the countries and languages users want to use the VDC and help us to put the right emphasis on future development. In the cost free version you have to give your users the A4GL application running on the VDC.mobile also cost free. We plan to implement more features offered by Qt in this cost free version. So VDC.mobile will remain being of high quality in order to keep A4GL popular and support the community grow. Some additional features will be available in the commercial version. Earn money with the new VDC.mobile This new product opens the chance to offer new usability to your users without investing much effort. So it is an oportunity for you as solution provider to sale this additional features. Having a maintenance contract with us you are free to sale the use of your mobile applications written in A4GL as you want. This way your users get also additional capabilities activated, like Charts and Data Visualization or Report Generation. As an additional commercial service we help you the get the best possible use of the VDC in order to optimize the user experience.

4 VDC.mobile demo account Users can test the possibilities of the new VDC.mobile. We will provide a demonstration account with a Test Database and an A4GL Application. The GUI will be available in german and in english. VDC 2, the better Desktop GUI First of all the new VDC is faster then before. A lot of tuning was made which makes the user experience even better. The VDC 2 is very stable. We did more than thousand improvements last year in order to let the maturity of the VDC grow. Formatting of number fields is easier and more flexible. You can decide to use the FORMAT attribute on screen forms or let the VDC to show the desired format. The options itself shows as an example how the result will looks like. The both first options let the VDC do the formatting work. The two last options let the VDC to be neutral so you can optionally use the FORMAT attribute on screen forms as you prefer. We improved the Keyboard buffer to avoid the lost of data entries if the users is typing very fast. The VDC update makes now a copy of the older version so you can step back in case of a problem in the new version. For the Report and Document Generator we developed a new server program based on Qt which do the main work in the process of converting the template (part of the VDC commercial). We solved the problem of synchronizing the sorting on display arrays with A4GL. This needs to make some change in the A4GL application but the user can sort every column getting allways a corresponding sort on the server. We will deliver a code example soon to make this clear (see also What is next? ).

5 We implemented a solution for users clicking on inactive field instead of choosing from the ring menu. There is a new action activateinput which works like an on key and allows you to the call of an input function. Also there is an implementation of dynamic ring menus. You can hide or show menu commands in dependance of the context. Also here we will provide some code examples. Also on the VDC 2 we will offer the open-source and a commercial version. In the open source version there are no restrictions about selling your application, so nothing changes. The difference is new and additional functionality like charts and the Report and Document Generator or bugfixes. Also discounted project or porting support is available for maintenance customers. Timeline The VDC2 for Desktops is available now. In the beginning of April we will publish the VDC.mobile for Android The VDC.mobile for IOS could be expected at the end of April The Win-RT support will be provided an the end of What is next? Support for UTF-8 This will expand the usability of A4GL applications in different countries in dependance of the increasing usage of the VDC.

6 Charts and Data Visualization ERP or other 4GL solutions collects data and it is an increasing need to show it in different ways. Modern solutions on the market often offers some capability like a dashboard. The VDC commercial will deliver a solution for integrate the chart functionality in A4GL. Here you can see some examples of what is possible.

7 VDC.mobile for Win-RT Although you cannot encounter tablets of Microsoft very often it is our concept to be platform independent and therefore also this gadgets will be supported (end of 2014).
