2 Benefits of Maintaining Hardware on Laptops and Desktops Part 1 - Benefits Benefits of Maintaining Hardware on a desktop Keeping hardware maintained will ensure it wont fault, like breaking down and no longer working in resulting having to repair it via a professional or even have to replace it whole, this will be a loss of money to the company. To maintain hardware keep the drivers up to date and occasionally clean out the hardware like dusting it, etc. if the company maintains its own hardware it wont have to pay someone else outside the company resulting in saving money for the company To avoid hardware faults occurring the company will need to train staff to properly to maintain desktops and laptops, this way the company will save money as they wont need to call in professionals to maintain and repair faults. Maintaining hardware in desktops and laptops will avoid faults from occurring. If hardware gets faulty during working hours this will result in down time and this prevents staff from carrying the work out. Upgrading hardware in the companies desktops and laptops will improve their performance this will allow staff to work with more ease, increase uptime and helping the companies profit raise. Benefits of Maintaining Hardware on a laptop Keeping laptops maintained is difficult but still needs to be done, you can unscrew the base and dust it out at the least, unless a professional laptops are tricky to get around when upgrading and doing Maintaince. Just like desktops keep the divers up to date and don t leave the laptop on for really long periods of time as this will make it overheat and potentially cause it to breakdown.

3 Benefits of Maintaining Hardware on Laptops and Desktops Part 2 Implications Implications of maintaining Hardware on a desktop Maintaining hardware is well and good, but if someone tries to do some sort of hands on Maintaince unprofessionally they could mess something up like not making sure to do any steps to avoid ESD (electro static discharge), heavy handling parts, or even injuring themselves. (explained in Benefits) To allow the staff to carry out the tasks of installing and maintaining hardware they will need to be trained. This results in costing the company time and money because technology systems will advance as time goes by quickly and the training will be held ongoing to allow the staff to know the latest techniques and tools. When it comes to the staff upgrading the hardware they will need to make sure the hardware is compatible with the old hardware. If they are not compatible then they will not fit correctly and would damage the computer system. Parts that are removed need to be decommissioned correctly following the standards of WEEE (Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Directive) Implications of maintaining hardware on a laptop As mentioned above laptops are tricky to keep maintained but must be done, make sure to have someone who knows what their doing open them up and upgrade/maintain. Or else you could cause the laptop problems if handled badly.

4 Review of installing and maintaining hardware on a desktop Installing and maintaining a desktops hardware Installing new hardware and maintaining hardware on a desktop has many benefits and implications if not maintained. Installing new hardware like replacing old parts with new to keep the computer running fast and smooth, keeping drivers up to date and cleaning out the parts, if not followed correctly your computer can break down and cause downtime which will result in a loss of money, you ll want to avoid this by having a member of staff trained in maintaining your hardware. Training staff will cost money but at least you ll have a member of staff trained and relied on to maintain all of your hardware on the desktop. The trained staff will want to make sure to do their research on the parts and make sure the parts are compatible with the original parts, they ll also want to ensure they prevent ESD (electro static discharge) if the staff are not preventing ESD this could result in damaging the computer and resulting in data loss.

5 Strength and Weaknesses of a Laptop Strengths and Weaknesses Laptops include plenty of strengths and weaknesses, to list a few. Laptops are extremely portable in most cases, the computer itself is the screen and can be folded in and fitted in a laptop case for moving from place to place, they also include battery power instead of needing a constant power source, this can also be a disadvantage if you forget your charger or don t take note, most laptops will give you a warning to save your work and such. Laptops are more expensive then desktops due to their small components and custom made parts, this contributes to its small size and portability but also increases its price range. For example a Laptop with the same specs as a Desktop, the laptop will still be more expensive. Therefore even more expensive to repair and upgrade, ideal option is to get a professional. Laptops will of course come with a screen, touch pad/screen, keyboard and charger. Meaning you wont need to buy any extra peripherals in this case. If the company values portability then a laptop would be a good choice, this way the manager or an employee could take it and finish work off in their own time. If this is not the case a desktop would be a better choice to save money for the company.
