How to Authorise ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2 Single Use

1 Welcome to ArcGIS How to Authorise ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2 Single Use This document will help you authorise your Desktop product and any extensions you have purchased for Single Use. You can perform this step immediately after installing your desktop software (follow Option A) or you may have decided to delay authorisation until a later time and are now ready to do so (follow Option B). The screens you are presented with look different but both enable you to achieve the same thing. View the information below for option A or B and then continue to step 1. A. Authorising immediately after installing: If you have just finished installing your ArcGIS for Desktop software, the ArcGIS Administration Wizard will automatically display as shown here.

Authorising at a later time: If, after installing, you decided to leave authorisation until a later time and are now ready to do this, open the ArcGIS Administrator from All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator as shown below. The ArcGIS Administrator opens as shown below. The default licence type is set to Advanced (ArcInfo) Concurrent Use as shown.

3 1. As you can see in both screens above, you can select the level of Desktop to match the licence level you have purchased Basic, Standard or Advanced. The licence level determines the functionality that you will have available within the Desktop applications ArcMap and ArcCatalog. Here we will licence our install for Basic (ArcView) Single Use. The process is exactly the same for Standard and Advanced. Click on the radio button next to Basic (ArcView) Single Use. This will activate the Authorize Now button. The screens from options A and B are shown below. Option A Option B

4 2. The Software Authorization Wizard displays. Since this is a new install, and we do not have a provisioning file holding the licence details, we will accept the default top option as shown below. If you have already authorised ArcGIS for Desktop and wish to authorise some new extensions you can select the second option. If you have an authorisation/provisioning file with the details and codes for the products you are licenced for, select the third option. This option is not covered in this document.

5 3. The Authorization Method screen displays. The default authorisation method is direct via the Internet as shown below. This is the simplest method and recommended if you have an Internet connection.

6 4. Fill in your details.

7 5. Continue entering your authorisation details as show below.

8 6. The next screen asks you for your Software Authorization Number. This is the number you will have been sent in an from Esri UK or obtained from the Customer Care Portal. For single use licences, this will start with ESU. Enter the number in the box as shown below.

9 7. You can now authorise any extensions you have purchased licences for. If you don t have any, accept the default shown below.

10 If you do want to authorise some extensions, enter the authorisation numbers for each in the extensions window as shown below. In this example we have licences for a Network Analyst and a Spatial Analyst extension being applied. If you have authorisation numbers for extensions which are not shown in the list, you can type in the extension name in the first available box and enter the authorisation number for it.

11 8. You can also choose to evaluate any other extensions you have not yet purchased by selecting them and moving them to the Evaluation Extensions list using the arrow. In this example we do not want to evaluate any at the moment.

12 9. You will now communicate with Esri to receive your authorisation and you will receive a message saying your software is authorised and ready for use. Click Finish

13 10. On the ArcGIS Administrator screen, click on Availability to check that you have the licences you expect. Click OK to leave the ArcGIS Administrator. You can reopen it at any time from All Programs > ArcGIS > ArcGIS Administrator.
