Code Laying PLA-1x Information about the Description 1 Information about the Description This description contains technical information about the code rail installation for the PLA-1 and PLA-10. It gives important notes for the code rails and for the code rail installation! Read this description carefully before you begin with the installation! It will ensure smooth operation and prevention of errors, defects and damage to the system. Moreover, the universal safety and accident prevention specifications have to be implemented. Every person who is assigned to work on and with the code rails must have read and understood this description. This is mandatory even if the concerned person has already worked with the system, or has been trained by the manufacturer. Install Code PLA-1x V.0_VH0001_en 5
Code Laying PLA-1x Fundamentals 2 Fundamentals 2.1 General Code rails fitted along the entire length of a vehicle track of a system permit exact positioning and determination of position of all vehicles in the system with a precision of 1mm. 2.2 Position Determination The position is read through the position reading unit PLA mounted on the vehicle. Code rails are sampled with the help of light barriers in the PLA, and the absolute position of the vehicle in the system is determined on the basis of the code ascertained. 2. Design of Code s A 1-bit binary code is located on the code rail. Each code begins with a synchronization bit. The synchronization bit slot is wider than subsequent bits in the code. Thus a code is composed of one bit for synchronization and 1 bits for position encoding. The highest-order bit follows the synchronization bit. An open slot is interpreted as 1. Figure 1: Description of the code rail for the PLA-1 6 Install Code PLA-1x V.0_VH0001_en
Code Laying PLA-1x Installation of Code s Installation of Code s.1 Planning The code rail number stamped marks the beginning of the code rail. Code rails must be installed in ascending order of code rail number in the direction of travel. There must be no discontinuity in code rail installation in continuous track areas. At least one code rail must be removed at a starting point of a continuous installation. This code rail must under no circumstances be used elsewhere in the system. The starting point of the first rail zone is an exception. Here, installation begins with the specified code rail. Travel direction Figure 2: Code rail mounting.2 Provisions on Labor Warning! If working with code rails (e.g. cleaning, mounting) use work gloves! Install Code PLA-1x V.0_VH0001_en 7
Code Laying PLA-1x Installation of Code s. Implementation Code rail brackets are used to affix the code rail to the fastening holes. Care must be taken to align the code rails with the PLA on the vehicle in doing so. There are read marks on the front edges of the PLA1 (Figure ). These markings must be located in the middle of the code trail slots (refer to Figure ) if the vehicle is on a straight section of the track. Figure : Figure : Read marks Alignment of the code rail To screw together several code rails can be used the fastening holes of the code rails. Code rails will be installed overlapped. That means, the last synchronization bit of the code rail and the first synchronization bit of the next code rail are one synchronization bit. Figure 5 shows the right assembly. Figure 5: right assembly 8 Install Code PLA-1x V.0_VH0001_en
Code Laying PLA-1x Sample System. Descriptions in the Layout Code rail installation is recorded in the system layout. Layer LJU_code rail" is used to do so. Prominent points in the layout are labeled with letters. These points include starting and ending points. The rails are installed between these points continuously and in ascending order in the direction of travel. The installation path between points is marked by arrows. In addition, the layout contains a legend for code rail installation. All prominent points are listed here as well in the sequence in which the code rails are to be installed. Removal of a code rail is marked by the tag 000. In addition, the first code rail to be installed in the system is specified. Sample System.1 General The sample system in Figure 6 presents code rail installation by way of a practical example. The sample system has a length of 172m. It contains a repair stretch (1) and two buffer stretches (2 and ). Five points WE01 WE05 occur along its course. 1 2 WE0 WE02 WE01 WE0 WE05 Figure 6: Overview of the sample system Install Code PLA-1x V.0_VH0001_en 9
Code Laying PLA-1x Sample System.2 Code Installation According to the Layout LJU determines the installation of code rails which are marked in the system layout by way of letters and arrows as shown in Figure 7 (page ). The layout also contains a legend for code rail installation. The following code rail installation results from information provided in the sample system layout in Figure 7 (next page): Installation begins with code rail "010" on the straight point beam at point WE01 (starting point A). From this point onwards, code rails are installed continuously up to point B in the direction of travel without a break. This results in a path from Point A to Point B over the straight point beams WE01, WE02, WE0, WE0, and WE05 and onwards over the curved beams WE01 and WE02. According to the legend, the next code rail should not be fitted. Accordingly, a code rail is skipped. Consequently, if the last code rail before point B is x, installation will be continued at point C with code rail x+2 onwards to point D. This results in a path from point C to point D over the curve beams WE0 and WE05. The next code rail must not be fitted either. The last section to be installed runs from point E to point F over curve beam WE0. With this, every track section of the sample system is fitted with a code rail. 10 Install Code PLA-1x V.0_VH0001_en

Installation Guide Code Laying PLA-1x Sample System. Code Installation in the System All necessary code rails are shown in Figure 1 along with their description. The most important system sections are shown again in the figures below. In Figure 9, code rail 18 (= x) is seen fitted to the end of the curve beam WE02 (point B). The installation continues (Figure ) with code rail 150 (=x+2) at the beginning of curve beam WE0 (Point C). As required, a code rail in this case code rail 19 - is omitted and not installed elsewhere in the system. Figure 9 also shows that code rail "16" is installed both before point WE02 as also on the movable point beam. This arrangement results if the code rails are installed continuously to begin with, as required, with a separating cut made subsequently. 12 WE WE WE Figure 8: Point WE01 Figure 9: Point WE02 Figure 10: Point WE0 WE WE Figure : Point WE0 Figure : Point WE05 Figure 1: End of code rail installation Install Code PLA-1x V.0_VH0001_en

Code Laying PLA-1x General Instructions and Accessories 5 General Instructions and Accessories 5.1 Usage of Zero Code s Zero code rails are mainly used to easily undertake quick repairs of the code rails in a system. No special code is incorporated in these rails. All slots are milled or cut out and are thus identified as logical 1. Individual slots can be closed using the rubber plugs provided. Thus, it is possible to simulate or imitate any code rail using the following formula: CodeNumber 1 Code 7 Example: In order to illustrate the calculation, the rd segment of the code rail 105 is simulated as shown in figure 15. to be replaced 105 Figure 15: of code rail 105 to be replaced As per the formula, the following coding is obtained: Code Code 71 Code Figure 16: Code segment to be generated Note! LJU will provide a file that calculates and displays the coding of the rail. 1 Install Code PLA-1x V.0_VH0001_en
Code Laying PLA-1x General Instructions and Accessories 5.2 Notes on Temperature Fluctuations When temperature fluctuates, the code rail, like the aluminum profile, undergoes a change of length. Due to this reason, we recommend that: 1. the code rail not be fixed permanently to the slide rail. The code rail holder of LJU can be used for this. (see chapter 5.) 2. the code rails should be provided with expansion cuts. It is advisable to position these cuts at the very position where the aluminum profiles have expansion cuts. (see chapter 5.) If these measures are not observed, the code rails can get mechanically deformed and can result in damage to the PLA1 or the trolley. 5. Code Holder For the mounting of the code rails we offer special code rail holders. These holders guarantee an optimum installation of the code rails. The code rails will be snapped to the holders. So the code rails will not be permanently fixed to the slide rail (see also chapter 5.2). Additionally, it is possible to adjust the code rails vertically and horizontally in a range of ±7.5mm with the code rail holders. Name Code rail holder WNR 2069 Number We recommend to use 2 holders per code rail A drawing Code rail holder for the code rail holders is given in the enclosure of this description. 16 Code Laying PLA-1x General Instructions and Accessories 5. Cutting Code s 5..1 Execution of Code Cuts Figure 17: cut In case the code rail has to run through a expansion cut, a track switch cut or lifter cut, the rail should be continuously laid and subsequently the required mechanical cut should be made. This cut should be clearly broader than the width of a synchronization bit. LJU recommends a width of 25-5mm. (see Figure 17) Note! If a larger break of the rail is required at the track switches or plant-related (in order to allow a passage of the trolley), then it should not exceed a maximum length of 200mm Cover Cuts (in case of read fault errors) In case of read fault errors of the PLA at cuts, it is requisite to cover the codes of the code rail at the cut. Cover the code from the synchronization bit in front of the cut to the synchronization bit behind the cut (inclusive synchronization bits). Use impermeable material to infrared light, e.g. aluminum band. (see Figure 18) Figure 18: covered code Note! Cut next to synchronization bit! If a synchronization bit is located next to a cut of the coded bar it is additionally required to cover the precedent resp. following code inclusive the synchronization bits. 17 Code Laying PLA-1x General Instructions and Accessories 5.5 Ascents Special code rails are used in ascents. These consist of seven linked segments (1 segment = one code length), which can be adjusted in terms of length and angle in the elbow bend. The code rails for ascents are supplied as zero code rail. That means, after the laying is completed, the missing codes must be adjusted by inserting rubber plugs. Zero code rails see chapter 5.1.
