2 DB2 10 and 11 for z/os - Implementing and Using Autonomic Statistics. DB2 10 and 11 have a neat feature, automatically executing RUNSTATS on required objects. By the way, you get to choose when and how to execute RUNSTATS. The actual implementation however is not straight forward. Come to this presentation and learn how to successfully implement and review the output for this new feature. John Iczkovits is a Consulting IT Specialist with IBM Advanced Technical Skills. He provides DB2 for z/os technical support and consulting services. His areas of expertise include DB2 data sharing, performance, and availability. His work in IBM includes experience supporting DB2 as a Systems Engineer, Database Administrator, IT Specialist, Consultant, and project lead. He has 31 years of IT experience, ranging from database products such as DB2 and IMS to MVS systems support, including storage management. He has also co-authored IBM Redbooks, red papers, white papers, trade magazine articles, and presented at SHARE, the DB2 Tech Conference, the Information On Demand Conference, zexpo Conference, IBM System z Technical Symposium, CMG, IDUG, and at local DB2 users groups. 3 DB2 and Storage Management. Every DB2 professional knows that the database management system relies on storage mechanisms to persist data. Without disk devices there would be no place to store our DB2 data. On the surface, it may seem easy to understand that DB2 uses VSAM linear data sets to house its data. But under the surface lies complexity that can be difficult to decipher. This presentation will look into various aspects of storage management with respect to DB2. It discusses the gap between the Database Administration and Storage Administration (DASD) and offers guidance to bridging it. Along the way we ll look at: DB2 and DFSMS Modern Storage Architecture (RAID) Newer DB2 Storage Features Best Practice Guidance for Managing DB2 Storage Craig Mullins is a data management strategist, researcher, and consultant. He is president and principal consultant of Mullins Consulting, Inc., a principal with SoftwareOnZ (a mainframe software distributor), and the publisher/editor for TheDatabaseSite.com. Craig has more than three decades of experience in all facets of database systems development and has worked with mainframe DB2 since V1. You may know Craig from his popular books: DB2 Developer's Guide, 6 th edition containing more than 1500 pages of indepth technical information on DB2 for z/os Database Administration: The Complete Guide to DBA Practices and Procedures, 2 nd edition the industry's only comprehensive guide to heterogeneous database administration. Craig has been named by IBM as a Gold Consultant and an Information Champion. He was recently named one of the Top 200 Thought Leaders in Big Data & Analytics by AnalyticsWeek magazine (

4 Mainframe DB2 for z/os Performance & Tuning Mainframe Application Performance Management has become even more imperative today with processor speeds approaching the theoretical limit of 7 GHZ. So just throwing hardware at performance problems is not enough anymore. Application response times and runtimes need to be tuned to run as efficiently as possible and often times when DB2 is a big player in the application, that is where most of the performance opportunities will be found. We will look at several DB2 tuning opportunities in CICS, Batch, and DDF; analyzing the SQL Text, the DB2 Access Paths, and the DB2 Catalog Objects involved. Mike Wingfield has been in IT for over 35 years and has been working with DB2 since Version 1.1 in 1987 as a programmer, DBA, Tech Support, Data Modeler, Data Architect, and for the last 20 years as a DB2 Performance and Tuning Specialist. Mike has been utilizing Strobe since 1991 and has documented mainframe operating cost savings of over 50 million dollars using Strobe from 1994 through Mike retired from U S WEST (which became Qwest Communications and now Century Link) after 30 years of service. As a Strobe Solution Consultant for the last 10 years in Compuware s Field Technical Support, Mike takes part in Application Performance Assessments for many Strobe customers throughout North & South America, Asia/Pacific, and Europe analyzing Batch, Onlines, Stored Procedures, and DDF performance with Strobe and istrobe and providing recommendations for runtime and response time improvements.

Take Tesson Ferry Road approx. 1.4 miles to Butler Hill Spur (You will travel to the fifth traffic light after the highway exit. There is a Bank on the right.) Turn right off of Tesson Ferry Rd and continue straight into our main entrance. The main entrance is easily located by looking for the tall flag poles and cobblestone road. Park in the visitors' area (cobblestone circle). If the visitors area is full, you may proceed to the back parking lot, but you will need to walk back around to the main entrance.
