3 This EasyDNNNews module is used for many purposes new articles, blog, and events. It can also be formatted and displayed in many ways. So even though it looks differently on every site it is the same module being used. News Articles and Blogging Chapter 1 Add News Article or Blog Article 1. Log into the website and go to Latest News or your Blog. 3 P age

4 2. Click on add article or on the pencil icon add your article. 3. Enter a title for your article. You can skip the subtitle if you are not using them. Most sites will not use subtitles. 4. Choose the category or categories where you would like the article to post. These categories can be customized, which is described later in the manual. 4 P age

5 5. Summary section You will only enter 1 2 sentences which is meant to be an overview of the article. It will appear on the list of articles page and potentially the home page. Always make sure the Rich Text Editor is checked. You can treat this area just like you were working on any page on your web site. You can have links and images in there. Keep is to keep this area short. 6. Content section This is where the entire article is placed. You are able to add images and links in this area just like you do when you are editing a web page. Make sure the Rich Text Editor is checked. 5 P age

6 7. Article Tags To help with your search engine optimization, we suggest filling in a few tags/keywords for the article. These are like hashtags in social media. Think of the words people might search by to locate your article. 8. Publish Date The publish date will automatically be today s date. If you would like the article to show in the future, just change the date to a date in the future. They system will automatically publish the article on that date. 9. Expire Date This is when the article will be taken off the list of articles. Keeping all articles will help with your search engine optimization and keep the history there. It is recommended to date as is. 10. If the article is ready to be published, choose publish article and then click Save and Close. 11. If you are not finished editing the article, chose Draft Article and click Save and Close. This will allow you to come back and edit the article before making it live. 6 P age

7 Chapter 2 Adding images to an article If you would like a photo gallery in the article OR would like a main article image like below, you would follow the directions below. 1. You can add images to the article either while you are creating it or after by editing the article. To add images, scroll to the Gallery Panel and click Select Images. 2. Select the image/s that you want to upload. You can select more than one image by clicking on image, then press shift and click on the next image. Do this until you have selected all the desired images. Then click the Start Upload button. 7 P age

8 3. Once you upload the image, it will appear as below. To make sure that the image shows both on the article listing and the main article, make sure that both boxes are checked. 4. Once the image has been added, you can finish entering the rest of the article or if you are finished, be sure to click the Save and Close button at the bottom of the page. 8 P age

9 Chapter 3 Editing an Article 1. To edit an existing article, go to the pencil icon or Edit Article link above the article that you would like to edit and click on it. 2. The same screen as you saw when adding an article will then come up and you will be able to make any needed changes to the article. You will also be able to add images. 9 P age

10 3. Be sure to update the article when all changes have been made by clicking the Save and Close button. 4. You will also be able to delete the article. 10 P age

11 Events Event Displays Events will be displayed in a few areas on your web site. They can be in a list, a calendar format or show just the next few upcoming events on the home page. Calendar Display: List Display: On the event list page, events are displayed in event start date order with the soonest event first. On the news articles page the articles are ordered by publish date. 11 P age

12 Chapter 1 Add an Event 1. To add an event, you need to locate any page that has the module dashboard on it (circled below). This maybe on your events page, home page, news page, etc. Once you see the dashboard click add article. 2. As you did in adding a news article (chapter 1), you will give the event a title, choose the category that you would want it included in along with a short summary (1 2 sentences) and main content/description. The summary field is what shows up in the tooltip on the calendar and in main list page. In the main description we suggest putting the location of the event which is linked to a google map, flyer, contact person, and description of the event. 12 P age

13 3. An image can be uploaded to the gallery for the event. You can add images to the event either while you are creating it or after by editing the article. To add images, scroll to the Gallery Panel and click Select Images. 4. Select the image/s that you want to upload. You can select more than one image by clicking on image, then press shift and click on the next image. Do this until you have selected all the desired images. Then click the Start Upload button. 13 P age

14 5. Once you upload the image, it will appear as below. To make sure that the image shows both on the article listing and the main article, make sure that both boxes are checked. 6. Once the image has been added, you can finish entering the rest of the event or if you are finished, be sure to click the Save and Close button at the bottom of the page. 7. The one difference with adding an event is that the Add as Event box needs to be checked. 8. Add the date of the event and end date along with the start and end times. You must enter an end date even if this is just a 1 day event. If the event is an all day event, check the box that states that. 14 P age

15 9. If the event will be a recurrence event, check that box. 10. Upon checking the recurrence box, you will be able to choose whether it will occur, daily, weekly, monthly or yearly. You can also choose when the event will end. Depending on if you choose daily, weekly, monthly or yearly, you will have different boxes/choices to make under each one. 11. The Publish Date has nothing to do with events so do NOT change these dates. 12. Click the Save and Close button when you are done entering the content. 15 P age

16 Chapter 5 Editing an Event 1. To edit an event, click on the pencil icon or the edit article link above the event that you want to edit. 2. The same screen as when you added the event will then come up and you will be able to make any needed changes to the event. 3. Click the Save and Close button when you are done editing the event. 4. If you choose, you can also delete the event. 16 P age

17 Managing Categories Chapter 1 Adding a Category 1. Locate any page that has the module dashboard on it. Then click the dashboard icon. 2. Click on Category Manager. 17 P age

18 3. Scroll down unti you see Add Category. 4. Type in the category name. 1 2 words at the most. 5. For events only If you want the category to show in a different color on the calendar then pick the desired color. 6. You do not need to fill in the category description, image or link. These are only used if you are using the module as a Blog and using all features of a Blog. 7. Click Add New Category. 18 P age

20 Chapter 2 Editing an Existing Category 1. Locate any page that has the module dashboard on it. Then click the dashboard icon. 2. Click on Category Manager. 20 P age

21 3. Highlight the category you want to edit. Then click the Pencil icon. 4. You can now update the name or color of the category. 5. Click Update Cateogry when you are done. 21 P age
