2 Use this for general overviews of particular topics (any discipline). This is a good alternative to Wikipedia, especially Wikipedia entries that are still under development. Britannica Escolar is the same resource in Spanish. This is useful for advanced Spanish classes to research in the language itself. Start with High School (for Escolar, start with primaria ). For students having difficulty you can adjust the reading level within the search results by selecting a different level (1= Elementary School; 2=Middle School; 3= High School). 2

The system can cite in APA, MLA, Chicago and You can also an article to your entire class by selecting the list., and adding a special 3

4 InfoTrac Newsstand allows you to search news periodicals from around the world. Here I will show you how to access news in Spanish. Select Publication Search from the database homepage (circled in black below). From this new page, select List All Publications (circled in black below). 4

5 In the bottom right-hand corner you will see Language of Publication. Select one and you will have a list of publications in that language (here listed are some under Spanish ): 5

6 Each periodical page gives you the option to select the year of publication (and month of issue): Selecting the month and year will bring up all the articles in that issue: 6

7 Each article has several tools. The article content appears like this: To have the article read to you in the native language, click the icon. To add highlights, simply click the mouse and scroll over the text you want to highlight. A box will appear that lets you choose the color and add notes. To view all highlights and notes, select from the tool bar. To cite the source (APA, MLA, Chicago, Harvard) select from the tool bar. To save to your Google drive, select To share an article via Social Media select from the toolbar. from the toolbar. 7

8 General Onefile searches magazines and periodicals. Here too you can search for publications in different languages uusing the steps above (see Infotrac Newstand). This is a good research tool for coverage of global current affairs. For instance, I searched for French Election : Over 1,800 articles concerning some aspect of French elections popped up! 8

9 For books and ebooks in the library, use Destiny: Search by keyword (e.g. Spain ): Print books will have a icon, ebooks will have a icon, videos will have a icon. To access an ebook, you will have to sign up for an account (select create account in the top right corner) Some ebooks have unlimited access, meaning an entire class can look at the same book at the same time. Others limit the amount of users to as few as one at a time. 9

10 If you notice a shortcoming in the library s collection, you can use Follett s Titlewave to find books, videos, and ebooks, and recommend them for purchase. Follow the steps online to create an account. Once you have, use the search functions to locate titles. For the example, I searched for Italian Culture. A single-user ebooks is only $ (in this case we already have the print version) You can preview the books and read reviews right from the catalog. If you like the resource, click the button. Once the list is complete, you can share it with me by selecting the share option and inputting my address ( njmolinari@milfordma.com ). This is one of the most important ways to build a library collection (via faculty recommendations). 10
