3 WHAT IS A JUMP SEARCH? WHY SHOULD I CREATE ONE? The easiest way to explain what a jump search is to give an example. Say you are an agent that specializes in waterfront properties in Annapolis, Maryland. With the XactSite web site products, you can create a Jump Search for all waterfront homes in Annapolis, Maryland and add that Jump Search as a link on your web site. That way, consumers who come to your web site could click on that link and immediately see waterfront homes for sale in Annapolis, Maryland. Here is an example of what that would look like. These links are jump searches that have been added to the menu of this web site. 3

4 This guide provides step-by-step instructions for creating jump searches and adding them to your web site. CREATING A JUMP SEARCH 1. Click on the left navigation menu called Jump Searches. 2. Click on New Listing Jump Search at the top of the page 4

5 3. Enter Your Jump Search Name and Browser Page Title in the fields provided (see graphic on next page). 4. Scroll down to the map and enter the criteria you want to use for the jump search. Hint: as you are creating your search, your criteria will be shown in the blue search summary box at the top. You can also use the Draw Search Area at the bottom of the map to create a custom search area. Once you have the criteria set scroll down to the bottom and select the save button, which will save the search and return you to your Jump Search Page. The newly created Jump Search will display under My Jump Searches and you can review and edit as needed. 5

6 5. Make sure you copy the Jump Search URL in the gray bar under the jump search you just created. ADDING A JUMP SEARCH AS MENU OPTION ON YOUR WEB SITE To add the jump search as a menu option on your XactSite web site, follow these steps. 1. Copy the URL for the Jump Search 2. Click on My Tools, then My Web Site 3. Select Add New Content under the Website Content Section 4. Complete at least the mandatory fields (indicated with a *). For the Main Article URL, you must click the Check Availability button under the field to make sure the URL you entered is available in order to publish your new Jump Search to your web site. 5. Under Select a Content Type choose internal link 6. Click in the Internal Link field and paste the Jump Search URL 7. Click the Preview button to make sure the Jump Search works correctly. 8. Click Publish at the bottom of the page (see graphic on next page). 6

8 ADDING A JUMP SEARCH LINK TO A PAGE ON YOUR WEBSITE You can also add a jump search link to your home page, or any page of your XactSite web site. 1. Bring up your home page or an existing content page by clicking on the title 2. Click in the HTML Editor 3. Type the text in the text editor and highlight the text you want to link to your jump search. 4. In the editor tool bar select the hyperlink icon, which looks like a globe with a chain under it. 5. When the hyperlink manage window opens, delete the and enter the Jump Search URL that you copied into the URL box. The Jump Search URL will start with Listing/ProcessJumpSearch as in the example below. Once you have entered the Jump Search URL, click OK. 6. On the Homepage Edit screen in your XactSite website control panel, click Publish. You can now see your new jump search on your web site! 8

9 USING JUMP SEARCH LINKS FOR SIGNATURE, BLOG AND SOCIAL NETWORKING You can also create Jump Search links to post in other places, such as your signature, blog, and social networking sites. 1. To do this, follow steps 1 through 5 under the section Creating a Jump Search. 2. You will need to type your XactSite web site address, such as and then add a forward slash (/) and the Jump Search URL as shown in the example below. You can copy the entire URL starting (your web site URL followed by the / and the jump search URL) and use it in your signature, blog, or on social networking sites. When consumers click on that Jump Search they will see the results on your XactSite web site branded with your information! 9
