1 ASSESSMENT TECHNOLOGY, INCORPORATED A Guide for Galileo K-12 Online: Building Formative Assessments: Search Item Bank PURPOSE Creating a test using the Search Item Bank Test Builder tool allows you to search the formative item bank, the Item Family bank, and an existing test for test items that are aligned directly to the standards you have selected. ACCESS TEST BUILDER 1. Click: a. Test Builder tile. b. Dashboard icon or tile and then i. hover over the Dashboard menu option and select Teacher. ii. click Calendar link. iii. hover over Build button and select Test Builder. c. Assessment>Test Construction>Test Builder. 2. If necessary, select the Class. 3. Select the test Library. CREATE TEST 1. Access the Test Builder page. 2. Click the Create Test button. 3. Select the test Library in which you wish to save the test. 4. Confirm the test Library. 5. Enter in your test Title. 6. Select the Test Grade Level. 7. Select the Content Subject. 8. (optional) Type test instruction. 9. Click the Save button. SEARCH BY STANDARDS 1. Under Item Search, select By Standards button. 2. Select the Galileo Banks or the inspect Bank, Navigate Bank, or the inspect - NGSS Bank (Inspect and Navigate banks are purchased separately.) 3. Select the set of standards from the drop-down menu. 4. Once the standards appear click to select the standard(s) for which you would like to search items. 2 6. You will be presented with (A) a count of items, (B) selected standard(s), (D) a list of the items and (C) meta data. Please note the meta data displayed will depend on the whether the item is an ATI item or an inspect or, Navigate item. All items show Meta data may include the standard, DOK, and Points. ATI Items will also show the item Parameters, Readability Index, Lexile, and a link to Item Family. inspect items will show the instructions and scoring rules and the Navigate items will show the rationale. 9. The selected item will be placed in the Test Items column. 10.The total number of test items and total points displays in the Test Items column. SEARCH BY ITEM FAMILY 7. The items may then be filtered by Depth of Knowledge or if the item is an ATI item it may be filtered by Item Type by clicking on the filter drop down arrow. 8. Click the + above the item to add the item to the test. An item family is text, image or other supplemental content that a student must interact with in order to respond to an item. Users may wish to search items and build tests that are made up of all items in the bank that are linked to the item family. For example a teacher may want search for all items linked to a specific poem. 1. Under Find Items, click the By Item Family button. 2. Select the Item Family Library. 3. The item families in the library will be listed. 4. Click the binoculars to preview the item families. 5. Click the desired item family(ies). 6. Click Search button. The items may then be filtered by Depth of Knowledge or if the item is an ATI item it may be filtered by Item Type by clicking on the filter drop down arrow. 9. Click the + above the item to add the item to the test. 10.The selected item will be placed in the Test Items column. Clear All button to remove all selected standards/item families. EDIT TEST 11.The total number of test items and total points displays in the Test Items column. MODIFY SEARCH When searching by standards, by item family, and/or by test you can remove a selected search criteria by clicking the: selected standard/item family/test. TEST INFORMATION 1. Click the Edit Test Info link to edit. 2. Modify the test name, grade, subject and/or test instructions. 3. Click the Save button. Rev Assessment Technology, Incorporated - 4 -

5 TEST ITEM COLUMN The Test Items column provides you with features that allow you to edit the test in various ways. test number item to the desired location. DISPLAY TEST ITEM Click the View Item Stem dropdown to select how you would like to display the items on the test DOK, Item Family, Item Stem, Item Type, Item Parameters, Points or Standards. To auto-rearrange the test item click the reorder icon. REMOVE A TEST ITEM You may remove a test item from the test. 1. Highlight the unwanted test item(s) and click the trashcan button. 2. Answer the warning message. ATI encourages you to keep test items with the same Item Family in sequential order. This will aid in test administration since the student reads the Item Family once and all associate test items. When Item Family is non-sequential, the student reads the Item Family and answer the test item, continue with the test, and then rereads the same Item Family to answer a subsequent test item. PREVIEW TEST The test may be previewed for a student and for a teacher by selecting the appropriate link Preview Online For Student and Preview For Teacher. 6 PUBLISH TEST Once the test is finalized, it needs to be published in order to administer it to the students. TEST PHASES There are two phases to test construction. 1. Construction phase is the beginning (default) step and allows the user to generate test questions, search the item bank, and create test questions. 2. Publish phase is the final step and allows complete access to the test and all reports can be run once students have taken it. A test may be unpublished for editing by removing the checkmark in the Publish Test field. Once the test is created and published you will need to schedule the test for students to take. SCHEDULE A TEST Once the test is created and published you will need to schedule the test for students to take. If students will take the assessment offline you will print the bubble sheets and/or test booklets. Refer to A Guide for Galileo K-12 Online: Schedule an Assessment or the online help files if you are unfamiliar with scheduling in Galileo. REPORTS After the test is administered, visit the Teacher Dashboard page or Reports menu. Reports based on raw scores are available immediately when tests are administered online or once the bubble sheets are scanned using Scanline and/or GradeCam. TIP: Once the test is scheduled and administered to students, the test cannot be unpublished. If the test is scheduled and no student has accessed the test, the test schedule may be deleted and the test may be unpublished. EXIT TEST BUILDER Click the Home icon.
