Overview Custom tests are those that are either set up in TestWiz through the Test Specification editor, or they are designed directly in TestWiz using items from an Item Bank. Custom tests are usually set up by an administrator. However, for either kind of these custom tests, you may need to print: Answer documents/sheets for scanning Student booklets or teacher booklets Printing Answer Documents In order to scan test results into TestWiz, students assessment responses are entered on plain paper answer sheets which you print from TestWiz. Prerequisites Answer documents are based on the test information and student information you have stored in your TestWiz database. Before you print answer sheets, you must have the following in place: A Test Specification and a Test Administration file. These are created by an administrator who set up or created the test. The Test Specification contains detailed information about the test, including information on the format/appearance of the answer documents. For example, the settings on the Save/Release page of the Test Specification allow you to control: * the size of the bubbles * the spacing between rows of bubbles * the number of columns * whether to include a title page printed with the answer sheets * the location of the bubble labels (inside, above, or below) The Test Administration file stores the results from the scanned documents. To edit a Test Specification file, in order to make changes to the answer sheet layout or other aspects of the test, choose Utilities to open the TestWiz Utilities Console, and from the Test Management menu, choose Test Specifications followed by Edit Existing Test Specification. Refer to the document Creating and Editing External Tests for details on editing a Test Specification. Warning: Take care not to delete Test Administration files or Test Configuration files that are associated with scannable tests. Deleting those files will cause you to lose data if the test was already scanned. It will also prevent answer sheets from printing or being scanned. Related Documents: Administrators creating Test Specifications, or making edits to the appearance of the answer documents, should refer to the document titled, Creating and Editing External Tests. Or to for designing tests using an item bank, refer to, Creating Tests Using an Item Bank. Student names and teacher or course assignments. Before you can print answer sheets for each student, 4
pertinent information must be in the TestWiz database. Print the Answer Documents Once a Test Specification and a Test Administration file are in place, and student names and ID s are in TestWiz, you can print custom answer documents for each student. To print answer sheets: 1. From the TestWiz Utilities Console, choose Print Scannable Answer Sheets from the Test Management menu. The Print Test Documents page appears. Note: This page allows you to choose students according to their assigned teachers or according to their course information (if it is available). Regardless, you may follow the remainder of the instructions in this document. The process is the same, but the fields are slightly different. If you are working with course data, you may also want to refer to the separate document, Working with TestWiz When Course Data is Available. 2. Select the Test Administration from the drop-down menu in section 1 Select a Test Administration. Note: If your list is lengthy, you can filter the list by Year, Grade, Name, or Test Purpose. 3. Use the drop-down lists to make selections on the remainder of the page. For detailed help on each selection, click More information about this page located at the top of the screen. Additional text appears. Click the Help link for even more detailed information. 5
Notice that as you make your selections, the next selection options become available. Notice also that you can select individual students within a class, if you need to reprint any documents, or print a document for a recently enrolled student. 4. Under Section 5, you have the option to print extra answer sheets that have no student names/ids. These can be used for new students who are new to the class or not in the database yet. Teachers can write names and IDs (if known) in any white space of the printed answers sheets. Note: Refer to the document titled Plain Paper Scanning with TestWiz Scan for details on how these extra answer sheets are scanned. 5. Click the Answer Sheets button located in the last section. 6. A dialog box appears. The Status says Processing at first and then changes to Ready when the answer sheets are ready. Click the Ready link to open a PDF file of the answer sheets. 7. Click the Print icon in your PDF viewer to print the answer sheets on your printer. When you administer the test, have the students mark their responses with a #2 pencil, filling in the circles completely. Open Response items require a teacher to bubble scores in the allotted circles. Scan the Answer Documents After the answer sheets are all filled out by students, you may scan them into TestWiz using an add-on application called TestWiz Scan. Refer to the document titled Plain Paper Scanning with TestWiz Scan for detailed directions. Printing Student or Teacher Booklets Student and Teacher Booklets are available for some custom tests. All tests created using an Item Bank in TestWiz have student and teacher booklets available automatically. The student booklet shows the items. The teacher booklet shows the actual items as well as information about each item such as the ID, the answer, and the number of points for the item. Tests that were set up through the Test Specification editor may also have custom 6
booklets available if they were uploaded by your administrator. Prerequisites Before you can print test student booklets or teacher booklets, there must be either: A Test Specification and a Test Administration that were created from an Item Bank. There are default PDF booklets for item bank tests. These booklets may also be edited and uploaded by an administrator. For information on Item Bank tests and booklets, administrators may refer to Editing Item Bank Tests. A Test Specification and a Test Administration for an external test were set up using the Test Specification editor and custom test booklets were uploaded. For more information on setting up external tests and uploading custom booklets, administrators may refer to the document titled, Creating and Editing External Tests. Print the Booklets To print a student or teacher booklet: 1. Click Utilities to go to the TestWiz Utilities Console. 2. From the Test Management menu, choose Print Details/Booklets. 3. At the Print Test Details/Booklets page, select the test from the Choose a Test Specification dropdown menu. Icons for the details and booklets appear. 4. Click an icon to the right of Student Booklet or Teacher Booklet. Depending on the available booklets and test, there may be one or three icons available for different types of files (PDF, Word, or HTML). 5. If you click the icon for a PDF file and the booklet was uploaded by the person who set up the test, then the booklet opens in a browser window so that you may print it. If no special or edited booklet was uploaded, the default PDF file is available, and a dialog box of options appears. Choose whether to have one or two columns of items on a page and click Create Booklet. 6. A PDF file is generated. Click the Ready link that appears when it is available. 7
7. The booklet opens in browser window. Print the booklet from there. Related Documents Refer to these separate documents as needed. To get to them, go to the Welcome page of TestWiz and click Help Documents on the left sidebar. Creating Tests Using an Item Bank how to create tests in TestWiz using your own local items or items form the Formative Assessment Item Bank. Creating and Editing External Tests how to set up a Test Specification for test that was designed outside of TestWiz. Also covers how to edit any Test Specification.
