1 Step by Step We purchased the NWEA or INSPECT item bank and we would like to select items to build an assessment. Where can we do this? STEP 1 Click on the icon in the top toolbar. STEP 2 STEP 3 The Manager screen will load. Click the Create New button in the top row of buttons to expand the drop down menu. In the drop down menu, click Item Bank to select. Create A New STEP 4 Enter a new test Name (max. 35 characters). STEP 5 STEP 6 STEP 7 STEP 8 You may choose to include a Short Description of the assessment that will appear in the Preview. Select a Year, Answer Choice Option and a Subject from the drop down menus. Click the checkboxes to select the Grade(s) and/or Course(s) from which you wish to select standards. When finished, click the yellow arrow to the right to continue. Page 1 of 9
2 S Select Standards STEP 9 The top part of the Choose Bank & Standards window displays the assessment information along with the number of standards and items selected. The Select Bank(s) section lists all the banks that contain items for the grade/ course specified in the previous step. All banks are included by default. If you wish to disinclude a bank, click the corresponding checkbox in the left column to remove the bank and associated items from the list. STEP 10 STEP 11 Click on the + icon next to the grade/course name to expand the list and display the associated standards. You may also use the search box to search by keywords. Click the corresponding checkboxes to select standards to be included in the assessment, then click the yellow arrow to the right to continue. Page 2 of 9
3 View Items STEP 12 The top part of the Choose Items window displays the assessment information along with the number of standards and items selected. The Select Standard(s) section on the left displays all standards selected in the previous step. Click on a standard to browse items aligned to that standard. The Select Items section on the right displays the selected standard and the associated items. STEP 13 STEP 14 Use the checkboxes in the Select Items section to filter by Type, Bloom s Taxonomy, Difficulty Level, whether there is a Rationale, P-Value, or Point Biserial Included. If searching by P-Value or Point Biserial, enter a desired range into the textboxes. Click the Search button to filter the item list or click the Refresh button to clear the search criteria. Alternately, type a keyword into the Search textbox and then click the magnifying glass icon. By default, the system will search item name, passage name, and passage text within the selected standard. To search among all selected standards, click to select the checkbox for Search All Standards under the Search textbox. STEP 15 The Summary View tab is selected by default. To view an item in this tab, click on the blue item code in the Item Code column. A hover window will appear with the question and the mutiple choice options. To view an associated passage (for ELA items), click on the abbreviated passage title in the Passage Name column. A hover window will appear with the text of the passage. Page 3 of 9
4 S STEP 16 To provide feedback to SchoolCity about an item or passage, click the yellow report icon and submit the form as directed. You will be contacted directly. STEP 17 Select the Detail View tab to view a list of passages and items in expanded form. STEP 18 If you are building an assessment with passages, you may wish to minimize the total number of passages. Click the Passages tab to view all passages with associated items aligned to the selected standard. Page 4 of 9
5 Select Items STEP 19 Click the checkboxes of desired items and then click the Add Items button at the top or bottom of the page to include them in the assessment. STEP 20 With the addition of technology enhanced items, some items may only be administered online and some items may only be administered only on paper. The Administer column lists the possible formats for each item (Online, Paper or Both). If you add Paper Only or Online Only items to an assessment, you may only add other items that are administerable in the selected format. Items available only in an incompatible format will be disabled and cannot be selected for inclusion. STEP 21 After you select the items and click another standard, the Select Standards section will update to display the number of items selected for the standard in parenthesis in the Total Items (Items Selected) column. STEP 22 To view only selected items, click to select the checkbox for Show Selected Items next to the Summary View and Detail View tab headers. Once all items have been selected, click the yellow arrow to the right to continue. Page 5 of 9
6 S Layout STEP 23 STEP 24 STEP 25 The Layout window will open. The items are grouped by passages when applicable or are grouped under an Items Without Passage header. These groups are collapsed by default. Click the green + icon or the magnifying glass icon in the View column to view the items (and passages, where applicable). Use the magnifying glass icon to view the Item Name, Standard, Bloom s Taxonomy and Level of Difficulty for any item. Use the textboxes in the Point column to adjust the weight of any item. To delete an item or group of items, click the corresponding red X icon in the Delete column. Sorting Items STEP 26 To rearrange items or passages, click the corresponding blue bidirectional arrow icon in the left column and drag the item or passage to the desired location. Note: items associated with passages may only be rearranged within the linked passage. They may not be dragged to another group. Page 6 of 9
7 STEP 27 When finished making changes, click the yellow arrow to the right to continue. Summary STEP 28 The Summary window displays a summary of the assessment with details for each item. STEP29 STEP30 STEP31 To generate a PDF of the assessment summary, click the PDF Summary icon in the upper right corner. To generate a PDF of item rationales (when available), click the PDF Rationale icon in the upper right corner. To create two versions/forms of the assessment, check the box for Choose two test forms/versions of this. Two test forms will be created and students each will bubble the form number on his or her answer sheet.results will be displayed as a single assessment. When finished, click the yellow arrow to the right to continue. Page 7 of 9
8 Set Performance Levels S STEP32 Click Add Performance Level to set up manually, or click Load From Default Templates. STEP33 If you selected Load Template, identify the template that you wish to use in the pop up window, and click Select. Accept it as-is or make adjustments. Then click Save Performance Level and skip to step 38. STEP34 STEP35 STEP36 STEP37 STEP38 STEP39 If you selected Add Performance Level, enter Performance Level (1-5 character abbreviation, e.g., 1 or FBB) and Description (e.g., Meets Standard) for each peformance band. The lowest band should be listed at the top. Proficient/Advanced: Click the radio buttons to indicate which band corresponds to proficient and which to advanced. It is necessary to choose both. They may both be selected for the same band. Choose a Color and enter Percent Correct From (must go lowest to highest from top to bottom, beginning with 0 and ending with 100). Percent Correct From defines the lowest acceptable percent correct required for a student to score in that performance band. Once you have selected or created a performance level template, you may save it as a default to have it automatically load at this step for all future assessment creations. To do this, just click the Save As My Default Template button. When finished, click the yellow arrow to the right to continue. Page 8 of 9
9 Administer STEP40 Click in the checkboxes to select Scanning and/or Online as the Method of Delivery for the assessment. STEP41 STEP42 STEP43 STEP44 STEP45 For assessments that will be administered online, enter a default duration in the Hrs and Mins textboxes. This may be edited by teachers for individual students later. For assessments that will be administered online, the program automatically displays a countdown clock for students that displays how much time remains for taking the test. To hide this clock from students, check the box for Hide timer in scoring. Set a Start Date and End Date for the assessment. Answer documents may only be printed and scored within this window. Select Answer Sheet Template: Individual Student (personalized) or Class Roster (students select and bubble their own name from a class list). To view an example of either, click the corresponding magnifying glass icon. If you wish, click the Advanced Settings button to determine advanced settings for the assessment. Otherwise, click the orange Save and Close button to save your assessment. You will be returned to the Manager window. You must publish your assessment before you will be able to print answer documents.* *See Set Up IB for Administration Page 9 of 9
