1 1. Access to Chinese Academic Journal Web Access to Chinese Academic Journal Web is via East View Publications s home page at then click on the link China Academic Journals. As the programming authenticate the access by IP addresses, the users don t need to key in username and password. Once the IP address of the user is authenticated, he will be automatically logged in. Click here Figure 1: login page 2. Choose a language The default search interface is in English after login. If you would like to choose a different language, you can click on the language links on the search menu. The language options are GB (simplified Chinese), BIG5 (traditional Chinese), Cn&En (Chinese VS English) and English.

Select article and click on the article link, the citation of the artcile will appear on the lower right hand window f. To view full text article, Click on Download PDF and you require Acrobat Reader to display the doucment. Example: You can try following steps to find all articles published in 2003 about ancient poems of China Selecting from 2003 to 2003 to limit the results to 2003 articles Click the link Literature/History/Philosophy click Chinese Literature click Poems and Essays mark the Research on Ancient Literary Works and Critiques click the button to submit Notes: Browsing the selected database is only recommended when the user is clearly aware of the classification of the specific group of articles that he is looking for. For those who don t know which category the articles they need belong to, they should try Basic search or Advanced search.

Available search fields title: to search for all the articles whose titles include the inputted words author: to search for all the articles by a particular author keyword: to search for all the articles whose keywords include the inputted words organization: to search for all the articles by any author from a particular organization abstract: to search for all the articles whose abstracts include the inputted words reference: to search for all the articles that match the inputted words in the reference part fund: to search for all the articles by any author from a particular fund full-text: to search for all the articles whose full-texts include the inputted words journal name: to search for all the articles from a particular journal ISSN: to search for all the articles from a particular journal, whose ISSN matches the inputted number Issue: to search for all the articles from a particular issue Theme: to search for all the articles on a particular theme b.search steps? You may limit the search by full text, article title, journal title, author, organization, keyword, abstract, reference, fund, publication volume or issues.? Enter Chinese character in a word or phrase in the search box.

4 ? Limit the search by time period.? Select a sorting options for searched results.? Mark series databases to search;? Click on SEARCH button.? The result will display on the upper right hand window.? Click on the article link, the citation of the artcile will appear on the lower right hand window.? You are given options to view or save the full text article.? Option is also provided to refine the search from the result. Enter the second search term and limitations. Click on Second. Notes: The listings of Author, Keyword, Fund, Institution, Theme, and Journal title are also available. The users can select one in the search field and then click the icon to view the entire listing. Advanced In most occasions, basic search should be sufficient. But if you find that there are too many records that match your search term, advanced search is able to deliver quick, straightforward searches.? Click on the Advanced to get into the Advanced interface.? Mark database(s) for searching.? You may limit the search by full text, article title, journal title, author, organization, keyword,

5 abstract, reference, fund, publication volume or issues.? Enter Chinese terms in the Searc box.? You may apply Boolean operators (AND, OR, NOT) to limit the search.? You may also limit the search by time period.? Select a sorting options for results.? Click on the SEARCH button.? The search result will be displayed. The users can select one in the search field and then click the link Field Index to view the entire listing. 6. Output Result You first have to install Acrobat Reader on your computer to view the full-text articles. Acrobat Reader is a free software. You can download it from Display Article Titles Sorted by Relevance or Latest date: Display the searched articles sorted by relevance or latest date, including article title, journal title, year and issues.? Click on the First, Previous, Next, Last to scroll display screen or jump to a specified screen page.? View Basic Information: Click one article title to view the basic information for a selected article, such as title,

6 author, key words, organization, abstract.? Browse Full Text: Click on the icon or Download PDF link to browse the full-text in PDF format.? If you would like to print the article, just press Ctrl+P or click on the icon on the tools bar of your Acrobat Reader.? You can also save the article in.pdf format to your computer by pressing Ctrl+Shift+S, clicking on the save icon on the tools bar or selecting Save As from File on the menu. Notes: Download CAJ is not recommended for users outside China because of encoding and fonts problems. But the link is there, helping our engineers to diagnose technical problems. They are now available through . When you try to

7 download an article which does not to view online, the system will prompt a screen asking for your address and submitting a request. Then you will receive the article in your mailbox with a specified subject. Input your address and then click the submit button Figure 7: porhibitted article
