1 User Story In many industries, products are not pre-build with a defined component list but customers get more and more control of how the product should look like. In this case for the Lighting industry for example the luminaires cases are build with a specific requirement of size/color/power/etc. Same goes for complete projects of street/building lighting. Creating a quote for these kind of projects and the high number of components can be very time consuming as these configurations have to be maintained, prices are based on contracts with the customers and per project additional competitive pricing must be added on the fly. This application will be suitable for order desk and project support employees to easily create these quotations showing only the fields that are really required for this process but having the flexibility to change the component list with ease. An automatic check is performed if the customer has specific discount agreements and are proposed in the entry screens. Manual addition of extra discounts can be made easily for 1 or multiple item lines. Persona and Point of View
2 User Experience journey Mockup The Home screen provides a personalized overview for the order desk employee and initially shows the existing customers for Jill on the left hand side. Any other customer can be found via the search bar. By selecting a customer, the main details of the customer are shown on the right top of the screen. Below is a list of existing projects/quotes for an easy overview per customer. A new quote can be created by clicking the button on the top right. Per project quote, an overview can be found on the detail screen.
3 The detail screen is setup to show the minimum required fields for the quotation starting with the header fields. A direct calculation of the overall margin is shown here as well, to ensure that the quote delivers the maximum sales potential. Below are the item lines that are already added to the quote. The item lines are setup to very easily adjust the major settings that clients wish to change upon. This saves in changing each individual item line and having to navigate too much. Details of the existing lines can be changed by pressing the pencil button. New item lines can be added by pressing the button on the bottom left corner Add New material. When fully ready with the quote, button Save can be pressed to store the results in the system and send out automated e-message to the customer for direct response time.
4 New item lines and details of existing item lines are shown in the same screen (with different titles). On top is the general information about the product that was selected, including the most common information that can be useful for the quote process. Then several tabs are shown to make clear distinction in the item fields that can be changed. When certain tabs are not valid for the product (like Configuration) the tab is hidden. First tab is about the generic item details like material number, description, quantity, etc. Second tab is about specific configurations a client can make to get the best fit. For the Lighting products this can be about the light strength, number of colors and power consumption for example. Selections performed here might have an impact on the price of the product.
5 Third tab is about price information and how it can be influenced. Important is to keep in mind the margin that is available on the specific product to gain maximum profit and client satisfaction. Button Update (or Add in case of create mode) is used to update the item list on the second page. Cancel button ignores the input and returns to page 2. Jill is now able to quickly perform her task and provide feedback to the client while they are on the phone together. By communicating without delays they are able to directly jump into the clients wishes and get the best out of her day. Unfortunately, due to private circumstances I did not have the time to fully finish the application (pricing and configuration data), but the video will show the screen processing in 4 layers of details in which odata is retrieved from 5 different sources. I will continue to work on the application and post a new video on the same YouTube channel once completed. Video can be found via below address. In case the video cannot be viewed, I have added several print screens of the app on the next 2 pages.
6 Start page shows the customers for Jill on the left hand side and the customer details on the right hand side. A tab-structure has been added to show the generic information for the customer like address details and main contact person details. Below is a list of projects that are open for this customer showing the main information like project name and the overall margin. By clicking on the project line, the details are shown. The item lines for the project have been setup to allow an easy entry of the most important fields. This has been done to save the user from clicking through too many screens. The price information has not been added yet, as it would require a live-system for proper way of working. Functionality has been added to calculate the margin per line based on the current settings, so by changing for example the Discount, it will directly trigger the update of the margin field. This way Jill can directly see how well she is performing. For the time being due to the missing price information, the value is set to 0.42 to illustrate its working.
7 If a new material is added or a material line is selected to view its details, a new screen is opened in which more fields can be set. This part is not yet complete due to time constraints.
