2 Managers Managers no longer have a separate log on they use their normal candidate log on. They can use this to take exams, but also to find other candidates and managers and view their results. To convert a candidate to a manager first click Users. Find the user you need and click View Click on the user s name to see the details Change the user type and then click on the Change button Competence Assurance Knowledge Tests: Administrator s Guide!2

3 Pausing and Finishing The Status screen shows you who is online. It is a report for the whole system, not just the server to which you are connected. The Live screen shows who is taking tests and how far they have progressed. It also shows live tests where the users have left the system, and hence is useful for those situations where candidates claim to have completed the exam, but have really just closed the browser without finishing. 4 If you have the appropriate privileges, you can Force Pause an exam. This will stop the candidate or manager s exam, advise them why they have been logged off if they try to continue, and place the exam in the paused list. When the candidate next logs on she or he can resume their exam whenever they wish, but cannot start any other exams until they resume and complete the paused exam. If a candidate has closed the browser without finishing the exam, and you do not want to wait for the result to time out after one hour, then you can Force Finish the exam (if you have the appropriate privileges). In this way you do not have to ask them to return to the system and log on again. Pauses and Force Finishes are displayed in the detail of any result, together with the name of the person responsible. Competence Assurance Knowledge Tests: Administrator s Guide!4

5 Canceling You can click on a result to display more detail. If you have the privileges, there is a Cancel link. Once you click on the Cancel link you will be asked to provide a brief explanation. Competence Assurance Knowledge Tests: Administrator s Guide!5

6 Checking Content If you click on the Content link you will be able to see a course-by-course list of all content. If you have the appropriate extra privilege, you will also be able to look at review and preview versions of the tests. A Review version is a special version of a test that has already been published. A Preview version is a version that is yet to be published (i.e. not yet available to candidates). 7 If you have the privilege that allows you to view Review and Preview versions then you will be able to step through the exam, but display the correct answers using the Show Answer feature. It is also possible to use the Mark button to experiment with the screen to ensure that it works as expected. Although results are not recorded when you look through a Review or Preview version, all access to Review and Preview versions is logged and appears in a management report. Review and Preview versions display all questions in a fixed order. The tests, when presented to candidates, show a selection of questions in random order. In addition, anyone that uses the editing software to create these screens can leave notes. These will display on the Preview and Review versions, but will disappear on the published version. 8 Outstanding Tests The information provided to candidates and managers is based on the current Oracle profile, exported every night to the Knowledge Testing system. This is shown in the candidate s profile. Exams that have been passed in the last thirty days are discounted. The time estimate is based on an average time the candidate took across all of her or his attempts at a particular exam. If there are no previous attempts then the average time that all users take is used. Returning Staff When staff leave Network Rail their records on the Knowledge Testing system persist, although their accounts are switched to inactive. In this way, returning staff retain all of their old records. If a returning member of staff appears on the Oracle export then she or he is made active again on the Knowledge Testing system. However, if this person was a manager in the past their log on will be automatically changed to one of a candidate. Competence Assurance Knowledge Tests: Administrator s Guide!8
