1 General Overview of Think Central Address: You ll be required to click on Mathematics, and on the next screen Math Expressions. Welcome to Math Expressions in Think Central When logging into ThinkCentral.com, you will fill in the State, District, and School drop-down boxes. It is NOT recommended to check the Remember Password option, but you may want it to Remember My Organization. This site requires Pop-Up windows. If your computer does not seem to be opening windows within Think Central, it probably wants you to Allow Pop-Ups. Near the top of the window is a message regarding Pop-Ups. Choose to Allow Pop-Ups from this Site. Viewing Teacher and Student Resources On the main page, click on Resources. Your resources will begin to appear like the screen on the left. Spend some time looking through your Math Expressions Teacher Edition. 1

2 When opening your Teacher Edition, buttons and menus along the top of every page in the eteacher's Edition let you navigate the book and access its features. Click the Contents button to go to the Table of Contents. When you click the Contents button from a lesson page, you will go to the Table of Contents page for the Unit that you are in. Click the Contents button again to go to the first page of the Table of Contents. In the Table of Contents, click the dolphin icon to display a professional development video. Click the Previous button to go to the previous page. Click the Next button to go to the next page. When viewing the book in both-pages mode, these buttons will navigate forward or backward two pages at a time. Click the Left button to display only the left page. Click the Right button to display only the right page. These buttons are displayed in both-pages mode, in which two pages are displayed at once. Click the Both pages button to see the left and right pages of the book at the same time. The Both pages button will appear when viewing one page at a time in single-page mode. Many icons are live links including MegaMath. The - and + buttons control the size of the displayed page. Click the - button to decrease the size, and the + button to increase the size. Pages can be viewed in four different sizes, as indicated by the number between the - and + buttons. In the Go to page box, type the page you would like to view and then click the Go button. Pages can be entered as numbers (e.g., "213"), letters (e.g., "xxiv"), or a combination of both (e.g., "16A"). The Quick Navigation menu offers quick access to the different sections of the book. Click an item in the menu to jump to that part of the book. The contents of the menu will change depending on your current location in the book. For example, if you are viewing a lesson in Chapter 3, the Quick Navigation menu will provide links to the other lessons in that chapter, as well as the chapters in that unit. By using the Quick Navigation menu, you can also jump to a variety of book resources, including the Table of Contents page that corresponds to the page currently being displayed. The Resources menu provides access to three types of resources. Click an item in the drop-down menu to open that resource in a new window. The three types of resources available are: 2

3 Activity sheets: These resources support the unit, chapter, or lesson currently viewed. When viewing pages at the beginning or end of a unit, unit-level resources, such as Unit Tests, will be available in the Resources menu. The Unit Resource Index provides thumbnail-image access to all of the resources for that unit. The Chapter Resource Index provides access to all of the resources for the chapter and is available on all pages within the current chapter. Pupil Edition pages: Links to corresponding pages of the Pupil Edition are shown here. The links change depending on the pages you view in the Teacher's Edition. The Pupil Edition pages and many of the Activity sheets can also be opened by clicking on the facsimiles on the Teacher's Edition pages. When opening the Pupil Edition (abbreviated SE) Activity Book, many links are identical to the Teacher Edition. However, the Pupil Edition allows for the student to have it read to them and there is built-in vocabulary/glossary. When you are finished with a resource/ text you have opened, close ONLY that window not all of Think Central. Creating and Managing Assignments (including tests) Toward the top of most any page in Think Central, the above links are available (it s not always necessary to return to the homepage). Teachers have the ability to view, edit, schedule, and add assignments, create custom assignments and view class results and prescriptions by clicking on Assignments. Once in the Assignments page, a list of all assignments given to students is available for review and tracking. Users can filter assignments to view just those that meet selected criteria, such as dates due, subject, etc. Notice, also that you can Add Assignment or Add Test by clicking on the bottom right of the page. Clicking on either will allow you to select a group of students, a single student, or the entire class for the assignment. 3

4 In addition, you can choose when the assignment is available for students and the due date of the assignment. When creating a test, the teacher can also determine if a password is required for students to access the test. Be sure to click ASSIGN and not SCHEDULE. Click the blue link for the test to open the test and view questions and section(s). Click in the Assign column on the right will take you to the next window to assign the specific test you checkmarked. Notice that you can select certain sections to appear in the assignment, rather than assigning the entire test. If you plan to have prescriptions for student test performance, be sure to select a Standard Set! Click Save to set the assignment. It will appear in the student To Do list. 4

5 Once Assignments have been created, a teacher can filter assignments to view just those that meet selected criteria: Enter in From and To due dates, or select the calendar icon and select the desired due dates Select a subject from the Subject drop-down list (optional) Select a student or the entire class from the Student drop-down list (optional) Select an assignment type from the Type drop-down list (optional) Check the ungraded only check box to search only for ungraded assignments only (optional) Click the Find button to view a list of assignments that match the selected criteria. The assignment list will be filtered with the filters selected and be displayed in the Assignments section Or click the Clear button to remove the selections made Click the assignment name link to review a specific assignment Click the Edit link to edit the assignment (Only assignments that have not been started can be edited. If an assignment is in progress or has been completed, the Edit link will not be enabled. ) Click the Schedule link to schedule the assignment in the Planner Click the Cancel link to delete the assignment Note: This will also remove the assignment from the student s To-Do List Click the View class results & prescriptions link to compare the entire class s test results and to view which students mastered the test and/or need prescriptions Note: This link will only display next to basal assessments Click the Add a Custom Assignment button to create a custom assignment for classroom resources that are outside of ThinkCentral Click the Add an Assignment button to create an assignment using ThinkCentral resources The system also provides an at-a-glance status of tests. Users can see whether the test has been started, how many students have completed the test, and the overall status For more information on Editing Assignments, view the help menu! 5
