1 How to buy and download the (TAPs) for the 2012 BTEC First Awards in Principles of Applied Science and Application of Science Until mybtec is up and running, we re making the TAPs available as downloads through the Pearson Schools and FE Colleges website. This document walks you through the process for purchasing and accessing these resources. We use the Science resources as an example, but the same process applies for any subject area. Step 1: Finding your titles Visit the Pearson schools website, and navigate to the relevant series. When you re there, click on the All products in this series tab, where you ll see all the resources that are available to purchase. For Science, the relevant page is below: nce/btecfirstsinappliedsciencefrom2012/buy/buy.aspx Scroll down to the heading and you ll see all the TAPs. (Unit 7 and 8 aren t on this screen shot but they are listed on the website.) Some TAPs will be available to access right now these have Available in green text next to them. 1

2 Some TAPs won t be available just yet, and have Not yet published in green text next to them. If you want to find out the date that a not yet published TAP will become available, just click on the product title for more details. Don t worry if one of the TAPs you want has Not yet published next to it you can still order it now. We won t charge you until it s available. Step 2 Adding your titles to your shopping basket For each of the titles you require, click on the green Add to basket button. When you have all the titles that you want, click on the View basket link on the little green minibasket at the top of the webpage. This will take you to your online shopping basket. 2

3 Step 3 Reviewing your order Check that you have everything you need in your shopping basket. When you re happy, simply hit the green Checkout button. Step 4 Making your purchase If you ve ordered on our website before, simply login as a returning customer and follow the instructions on screen. If you haven t ordered on our website before, you ll need to register your online shopping account. Hit the green Register account button below: Follow the instructions on screen we ll ask you to provide an address and password to set up your online shopping account. Make sure you remember these, as you ll be using them to login to the myaccount section of the website later to pick up your TAPs. We ll also ask you how you d like to pay if you are an employee of a teaching establishment you can choose to pay on your establishment account. Alternatively, you can choose to pay using a credit or debit card. Step 5 Getting to myaccount When you ve completed your order, you ll be taken to an order confirmation page on the website which details what you ve purchased and other useful information. Under a section called Downloads notice you ll see a link to follow to access the myaccount section of the website. We also send you an containing exactly the same information, including the link to the myaccount section of the website. If you have ordered TAPs that aren t yet available, do hold onto this so you know where to go when they become available. Alternatively, simply visit: 3

4 Step 6: Logging in to myaccount and picking up your TAPs When you get to the myaccount section of the website, simply click on the login button under Your personal website shopping account. This is always where you go to pick up your TAPs. Even if you ve chosen to pay using your school account, the Your personal website shopping account is still the place to go to pick them up. This is because access to this download is just for you, and is linked to your personal website shopping account. You ll be asked to login to myaccount using the address and password you used for your website shopping account. Once you ve logged in, click on the tab for Your purchased downloads and you ll see a link for your files. Obviously any TAPs you ordered with a status of Not yet published won t be there yet you ll need to pop back when these become available. 4

5 Step 7 Extracting the files you need You will have downloaded your Teaching and Assessment Pack units as a zipped up file format. Open the zip file and click on Extract, you will have to enter a location where you want the extracted files to appear on your computer. (Depending on the version of software you will be using the Extract button may not appear exactly as below.) The files will be extracted and automatically placed into folder types in the location you have specified: Activity sheets Evidence collection sheets Lesson plans Teacher and technician sheets. Access the lesson plans in the first instance to find out which sheets should be used for any one particular lesson. Document names File name example; _u2_tt_04. 1 The first six digits of each document name are the last six digits of the ISBN, in this case The second part of the name is taken from the unit number, in this case u2 or Unit 2. 3 The third set of letters represents the document type; the abbreviations used are listed in the table below. 6 uo as ec lp tt unit overview activity sheet evidence collection sheet lesson plan teacher and technician sheet 1 4 The final set of digits shows the lesson number that the sheet belongs to, in this case 04 or Lesson 4. An example: File name; _u2_as_07. The sheet is the Unit 2 Activity sheet for Lesson 7. In addition to the folders listed above there are a number of other documents provided. These documents follow the same system as outlined above except they are not associated with any particular lesson. The abbreviations for these documents are included in the table above. mybtec Once our new online mybtec support service is live, all our Teaching and Assessment Packs (TAPs) will be available for you to access through mybtec. You will then be able to buy the TAPs: on our website through mybtec itself via customer services through your local Pearson consultant. What happens if I have already bought the content as a paid-for download? If you have already bought a Teaching and Assessment Pack as a paid-for download, we will contact you to provide details on how you get online access to these resources, through mybtec, at no extra cost. 6
