At a basic level, users can select a message to be spoken instantly. You can also select a sequence of symbols to create a sentence. More advanced users can combine symbols with alphabet grids, and use tools such as prediction with symbols. Symbol sentences can be saved, printed, sent as or sms messages, or simply spoken aloud. You can quickly and simply add new vocabulary and new pages. Text Communication The Grid 2 provides many ways to speed up text input for people unable to use a physical keyboard. Text Chat + Messages gives users the option to save sentences. Quick searching allows you to find and edit saved messages. Power users can maintain multiple message lists for different topics. Verb Morphology allows you to change a verb to a different tense just by selecting a cell. Computer Control Our computer control grids are designed to make all the features of Windows immediately accessible to people who do not use a standard keyboard and mouse - even to people using a single switch. CALLtalk is more complex than a beginner vocabulary and goes beyond basic functional communication. Users need to understand topic categorization and should be starting to put two or more words together. It is for direct touch screen users as well as switch scanners. Core Vocabulary Language studies have shown that we use the same few words (core vocabulary) in almost everything we say. GridTalk has the core vocabulary on the first page for immediate access. Key 48 supports a range of users including those who prefer direct access. Word prediction in the eye line is the most useful place for many people. Switch users are also supported by the arrangement of the letter board with vowels on the first column. For those who would prefer it there is a very large picture supported vocabulary arranged topically rather than grammatically. The scroll feature that is unique to Grid 2 means that words within a topic are not confined to the 48 cells on a page and the user can add more words to the topic list to suit their individual needs. Finally, there is a comprehensive set of subject pages that are arranged to serve the mainstream or special school curriculum. These pages also contain vocabulary that can be useful generally. For example, every major country and all U.S. states, counties, and cities can be made readily available on the geography pages. Key 6 Key 6 has been developed for the teenager/young adult who has at least some basic literacy skills but significant difficulty with access. Once you have written your sentence, just hit speak to read it aloud (or you can get Star Talker 2 to speak automatically when you finish a sentence). The prediction learns as you write, so the words you use often will appear at the top of the list. There is also next-word prediction to suggest words that might follow on from what you have written. Save Common Messages At the heart of Star Talker 2 are the "chat messages", a list of messages saved for quick retrieval. If you have written a message that will be useful later, just hit "add" to add it to your message list. When it comes to finding it later, simply start typing one of the words in the message. Any messages that include the word you write are displayed, helping you to find them very quickly.
