1 Live Audience Polling - Poll Everywhere Tutorial Introduction Poll Everywhere is a service that allows groups of individuals to vote within usergenerated polls using mobile phone s text messaging capability or a simple web form. Learning Objectives In this tutorial, you will learn how to: 1. Sign up for a Poll Everywhere Account, 2. Create and customize a poll 3. Collecting a poll responses 4. Embed a poll into a PowerPoint Presentation 5. Embed a poll into a PowerPoint Presentation a webpage Part 1: Sign up for a new Account 1. Go to 2. Click on the Sign Up button at the bottom of the page to sign up for free. 3. Fill out the required user information on the next page. (Do not forget to check the read and understand terms of service checkbox.)
2 If you see a new page called Create New Poll, that means you have successfully created a new Poll Everywhere account. This is the end of part 1. Part 2: Create and customize a poll There are three kinds of polls that you can create on Poll Everywhere. They are multiple choice poll, free text poll, and goal poll. The example used in this tutorial is a multiple choice poll. 1. Click on Multiple choice poll on the Create New Poll page to get started. 2. Type in your question and your answers for your new multiple choice poll. Then click on the Save new poll button. Click on this button to add more options. 3. On the right of the page, you can customize the poll. Users with a free plan, can make decisions on whether people can respond more than once, whether the voters can get a default reply message and how people can respond.
3 4. After customizing your poll, click on the Save new poll button. Now you should see your poll in the browser as shown in the example below. Vote directions Keyword: Code for each option
4 5. Move your cursor to the left bottom corner of your poll (near the green arrow), more controls will appear to customize your poll. This is the end of part 2. Part 3: Collecting a poll responses Now you are ready to collect responses for the poll you have just created. In this example I have enabled the students to use Text messages, Tweeter, Smartphones and Web widget to vote. To vote with text messages Just send the keyword you have selected to To vote via tweeter 1. Go to 2. Login with your twitter account. (If you do not have one, click on the Sign up now button and follow the instructions to sign up for free.) This is what you see after signed in.
5 3. In the textbox, type in your response by following the format as shown below. This will appear as soon as you type and a space 4. Click on Tween to reply. Now you have one response for this poll.
6 To vote from a smartphone, visit poll4.com To vote from the web 1. Go to poll4.com 2. Type in the keyword, and then click on the Submit Response button. This auto reply indicates you have successfully submitted the response. Now the data are updated on Poll Everywhere
7 Customize your data display 1. Move your cursor to the left bottom corner of your poll (near the green arrow), more controls will appear to customize your poll. Click on Chart Options. 2. In the chart options pop-up window, change the settings like the chart type, color of bars, background color, text color and size, etc. This is the end of part 3.
8 Part 4: Embed a poll into a PowerPoint 1. On the right of the page, click on the Download as Slide thread. 2. Then click on the corresponding format. This example illustrates PowerPoint 2007 (Win) version. 3. In the File Download pop-up window, click on the Save button. Then you can open the file that has just been saved. You will see a PowerPoint file with 6 slides. The first 5 slides are explanations and voting guidance. 4. Copy the last slide, and paste it into your other PowerPoint files. This is the end of part 4. Part 5: Embed a poll into a webpage You can embed a poll into a webpage (e.g. blogger, wiki ) and even into a course management system like blackboard. The example provide below is to embed a poll onto blogger.com 1. On the right of the page, click on the Share and Publish tab, and then click on Blog or Web Page. 2. Then you should see an example of the web voting widget. Below it you can find the embedding code. Cope the code from here.
9 3. Go back to your blog and login. (The example used here is blogger.) 4. Create a new post. Name the new post, paste the code you just copied into the textbox, and then click on publish post. 5. You will see the verifying information. Click on View Blog. Now you will be able to see the poll appears on the blog.
